I'm getting so sick of this crap. These are kids of low life trash no doubt - probably raised themselves. This mess has to stop. We need to PUNISH these people. Stop the slaps on the wrist. Build some dadgum bootcamps and throw their butts in it!

They need something positive in their lives. Building up negativity is not the answer. Give them something to live for

It seems we might be past the point of "give them something positive." We're talking battery and robbery here...not to mention the apparent link to drug addition (which I agree is usually linked to hopelessness and lack of meaning in life.)
Kids/adolescents like this need a structured environment, as they apparently didn't get one at home, and isn't that what the bootcamp process is about?
However, the male in this case isn't a minor...the 19 y/o needs to go to jail...for a long time.

The teens havn't lived a third of their life yet. They obviously havn't been taught the correct life lessons associated with being a good citizen. I will guarantee you they will not be taught in prison. My argument is geared more toward how to better "correct" their behavior instead of "punishing" them. Everyone would gain more most importantly though the ones who needed it most.

I totally hear you...This is definitely appropriate for the 17 y/o female, but our laws (perhaps arbitrarily) set age of majority at 18, and the male has to be treated as an adult. Perhaps this isn't right or the best case, but it's how our system is set up. I was thinking more of the drug connection, and no matter what, both individuals probably need extensive drug rehab/counseling. It wouldn't surprise me if the sole reason for the crime was to support a drug habit. As another post noted, these two don't look like rosy cheeked teens...they look pretty dragged out, and much older than their ages...
