All the gas usually comes from one sorce, Sunoco, Hess, there are no single pipelines for a certain company just additives go into certain gas company inventory... My cars run no better with shell than hess, but they are bilking the people if they are not blended properly either at the station, or at the refinery...I say find out how they are screwing the people then fine the heck out of them..

End of Aug 06, I filled up my car with what I thought was 10 gallons of Sunoco 94. My car requires good premium. The car died 1 mile down the road. It was flat bedded to the dealer and we found that I had actually pumped in 10 gallons of water! Turns out the station/convenience store routinely had this happen after a rain storm. The fill caps for their tanks allowed rainwater to rush in!
Cost me $1250.00... after a couple of weeks of round and round, including filing reports with the PA DEP , Attorney general and the BBB, i finally got them to admit they had a problem when I showed up at their place with a camera while the crews were repairing the fill cap area at the store/station. I got a check the next week. I have a safety system on my car for bad gas, alcohol injection. It protects me from bad gas... but not a tank of water. I'd love to see regular testing of octane.... the engine it saves could be your's! |

|
Not only does the price blow, but now the octane, however my car seems to drive fine and I know when it has bad gas. This wouldn't surprise me that these greedy oil company's would do this though. And to think Cowboy Numnuts and Crazy shot Cheney support these thieves.

There are two types of raw gasoline in pipelines, regular and premium.
Most vehicles can use regular just fine, however the addititves which are added at the distrubution centers do differentiate one brand from another. These additives do make a difference in engine performance and internal clean combustion cycles, keeping down unburnt carbon deposits and such. If your vehicle is less than ten years old, regular gasoline geneally works just fine, unless your owner's manual specifies you use a gasoline greater than 87 octane. |

The only comment I have is that if high octane doesn't do better than why even produce it. The combination of a tuned-up engine plus higher octane gasoline leaves less deposits behind in the cylinder head, while most of today's cars will run on basically water(low octane) there is still deposit build up where a higher octane gasoline not only gets rid of deposits(cuts back on build up) but it will increase horsepower and fuel mileage over a period of time and also in colder months when condensation starts, makes starting easier. The FTC rule on high octane fuel has been proven wrong and I would strongly support the testing of gasoline for octane ratings and Water in gasoline especially here in eastern PA........Good Day to all.

Barr, the next time you pump gas stop sniffing it!! Sign up for a spelling class, that will help you!! |

Sniffing? I think he's drinking it! He may have a point but I can't bear to read his misogynistic ramblings to find it. |

Oh boy - more checkers from the state. I don't trust the oil companies any more or any less than I trust the government. I think someone should check the governor, the legislature, and then down to the lowest bureaucrat to be sure we getting what we pay for there too. Ant the Morning Call and everyone else should be checked. And we should have another group monitoring the checkers. No one is to be trusted!

Compared to other countries, the USA has crap for gas. Foreign Car manufacturers had to build their cars for this market. That's why you see bigger and bigger CID figures and special emissions equipment for engines destined for the US domestic market. I'd be happy to pay higher prices IF THE GAS WAS REAL HIGH OCTANE, and my engine was set to burn it.
It makes a big difference. The USA gets ripped off again. PA gets ripped off again if they don't get this law booked and enforced. BTW- I drive a Subaru WRX 92 Octane only. |

I have a vehicle that requires high octane gas, so this article concerns me as I had assumed the octane content was part of the inspection process. I was purchasing gas at a location that offered the best price for premium gas in the area. However, I noticed my engine knocking away. When I switched to other gas stations and other brands, the knocking went away and I received better gas mileage. We as consumers should get what we pay for! No if, ands or buts about it!

I dread getting more bureaucracy to do it, but I had assumed octane was already being tested. I'm horrified it's not being tested. I'm sure there are gas station owners who have great integrity and others, unfortunately, with none at all!
We need to have this tested! |

Buy your own oil, filter, and do it yourself. It takes about the same 20 minutes.
Gas is another story. The article says most cars don't know the difference. Mine does. If I put 87 in it, it sounds like a coffee can full of rocks. With 89 it's fine. |
|||
I don't think he did! Barr made the spelling mistakes, yet in another post he spelled things just fine. And goody goody for you that you have the time and money to have your oils tested. I don't have time for that crap. Get a life |
||||
|
I keep records of my gas consumption and find a large difference not related to driving standards or weather. I suspect it is the octane difference in the gas. I find no testing regulation for Octane which leads me to opinion we are not getting what is advertised at the pump. With no testing how can you be sure and keep the gas companys honest?

The added variable now is winter,wind chill across the radiator can and does reduce the operating temp from efficenly burning the fuel.If you have a temp gauge use it.Many engines are operating in a continuos under temp or warmup range.miles per gal.plummets with lower engine temp.
HEAT=Good Fuel in winter weather. |
