Alex Cortes is my cousin, he got killed in the shooting on 4-22-09. All those ignorent and stupid people out there who were saying that my little cousin was a gang banger just because his room was red and because his favorite color is red, all of you apperantly did not know him. He was 13 years old, he comes from a very good family of professionals and hard working people. His parents are hard working and teached him right from wrong. Let me clarify to everyone that he was not a gang banger and did not have problems with anybody....

In response to Alex room color he may not necessarily had been a gang member but give me a break nowadays you can't walk around King City in either red or blue whether you come from a good family or not, you are still targeted as a gang member especially if your favorite football team is the niners. I used to live in King City, I grew up in the Gardens so I know first hand about gangs, but it all has to end. I'm really sorry for what happened but the fact is that if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck its a duck. The sad thing is that all these wanabe gang members don't feel the real pain like a MOM does in loosing their child and having to bury them at such a young age.

They were ALL bangers, ask around. even the teachers that knew them said so. They were in "At risk" school programs.

Did they deserve to die...No, however, you walk like a gangster, talk like a gangster, you will get treated like one.

And what the hell were they all doing so late, instead of getting ready to go to bed.

The parents are ALL to blame!

I was born in King City, raised in King City til I was 7. Now I'm 17 and hell when I went back again nothing was different. Towns a hell hole. I cant even walk outside. I was there for two weeks last december and there were at least three shootings. Parents fault? Yes. Kids fault? Yes. King City is one messed up town. Either youre blue or red. Whether you like it or not, you have to be. Like they all said before me kid was a duck, but he and no body else deserves that...

I live in KC for 12 Years I was born there and I personally grew up with Abel and he was a good guy and all, but now that I look back and think about I he was basically "destined" to be a gang banger like ALL the people who live in KC now, your 4 or 42 if you live in a small town like KC and there is nothing else to do but gang bang, you will gang bang.. I pay respect to the Silva family, and feel sorry for the loss of my friend.

I was an English teacher there last year and while I miss some of my students, there is a large number of them that frankly I could have done without. One class of freshmen were so poorly behaved that eventually I just gave up and worked with the handful who wanted to be in school.
From such dreadful circumstances of gang life (And in such a small town! It's shocking, really...), disrespect of school authority, disrespect of police and downright laziness you have this nonsense.
Do I miss King City? Sure, I miss my athletes, the serious students and the faculty members who cared. I don't miss about half of my students, truth be told. Notice that I haven't drive the three hours there yet and probably won't any time soon.

I too have taught in King City. How typical you are. You must have fit in with alot of the people in KC. Your comment says to me that you did not teach a whole lot of anything, to very many. Try a positive approach if you ever teach in the future. Even if it is not excepting some work at less than 100%. Keep giving it back until they get it 100% right. What's wrong with boosting the grade average? Respect given is respect taken. If you don't care, what do they have to lose? They are going to fail anyways.....cause you did not teach them anything. That's part of the ..........alright a BIG problem with our youth in King City. Not enough people care enough to find a way to teach those that don't get it the way we want them to learn. Wow, what a concept. It's like the woman in the church congregation. They will not have anything to do with homeless people. They say they are all drug addicts and choose to be that way. So, church people stay with church people and 'sinners' stay with 'sinners'. What it the purpose of the church? What is the purpose of being a teacher? You miss your althetes? The serious students? These kids probably did not even need you. Then you turned your back cause your ego got wounded. Which I'm assuming your egotistical attituide may have caused the disrespect, in the first place. All kids are willing to learn. No one likes to be talked down to, belittled or disrespected. Who made the first challanging threat? The one who thought he was better than his students. You say they disrespected you? You are part of the problem in King City.

For this sentence,

"Even if it is not excepting some work at less than 100%."

Should have used "accepting" in this instance.

And,

"Who made the first challanging threat?"

"challenging" maybe?

2 minor mistakes for a student, 2 glaring mistakes for a "teacher."

Not all kids want to learn. Many want to be in control, the big kahuna, the gang leader. They want their "street cred" too.

The vast majority of the kids in KC are write off's unfortunately. Their parents, neighbors and teachers don't give a filthy rats behind about them because they know they will be working the fields like their parents and other relatives anyway. A couple of them will become something better but the vast majority will not.

What they want to learn is how to committ their crimes without getting caught and the only math they will learn is what will be applied while weighing and sorting drugs.

Very good. But that's what you got out of what I had to say? Of all things said and misspelled on any forum, I get spell checked. Wow! The vast majority of the kids in KC are write off's? WOW! SO, YOU ARE A JUDGE? That is one of the biggest problems in this country....everyone feels that whatever their occupation is, it came with an added "judge certificate." It's that mentality that makes sure these "write off's" get written off. So you are voted to make the call on who matters and who doesn't? Don't get me wrong, I do agree with what you are saying......to an extent. Children learn what they live. If what they learn at home is nothing more than weights and measures, why do we have to turn our backs and write them off? We are not phsycics nor do we have the right to judge. But we can offer another way in life. No, I do not think they all can be saved, but if you haven't even tried or you don't even know the individual, who are you or anyone else, to write off anyone. "They learn what they live." Their lives are written off, therefore they have no sense of value for the life of someone they do not know. Please check my spelling because that is the point I am trying to make; that for the most part, I can spell.

Actually what you are trying to say, at least what I am taking from it, is these kids need role models. You are right, the problem is the role models they have chosen instead of the role models who will make them good people. You can't force an education on these kids, you can only force them to show up to class and sit in a seat. They will choose their role models for themselves. The cool dope dealin' money havin' gun totin' gang banger is going to win everytime! That's who they want to be like, not some stiff in a suit. They will pick cabbage as long as it gets them a bag of weed and a burrito and their share of the rent. They will deal the weed to get big wheels and low profile tires for their 1988 Cutlass. You can work with some of the kids one on one but as soon as they are in their group of friends you have lost them again. Again, for the most part these kids have no future!

Younger people think its fun to act like a gang banger but its sh#t.That boy didnt deserve to die but nobody could stop it.Its the natural way of things in this evil world that people die before god calls them. The entire human race has gone wrong with greed and violence.May we all die in silence and peace.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Capricorn

Take things slowly and all will be well. However, you must resist a tendency to be perfectionist over things that don't really matter, otherwise you'll never finish the chores. If you're busy with Christmas preparations, you'll have to control a nagging feeling that you've got to compete with the way other people have done things in the past.
