Lonnie was chairman when this idea was conceived. He had a lot to do with this, including meeting with contractor at City Hall. He notified architect in Dec. of 2010 that HE had concerns. Architect did nothing. He has been out there numerous times, because as a COMMISSION MEMBER, HE and I spoke about it. Some people just won't handle the truth. The people that know him, knows he will follow up. I know him from this commission, have enjoyed working with him and THE TRUTH IS Mcdonald Park (which he made the motion to change the name)would not be what it will become without His and other good members of this commission.

This is a city project. Blame Buz Olsen and Charlie Oliver. As ususal, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing at city hall.Lonnie helped to spear head this project, but he is not to be blamed.

Yes, I read topix, but I always know when reading all of this that there are two sides to every story. And I do agree, many lies are told on topix.

Bullsh........! You know the minutes of meetings can prove your lies. Commission member2 my butt! The Mayor, that comm. and honest people know he was greatly involved in this project. Ask Lyin Les. Mr.Lonnie went to him w/ the idea and to form comm.
But bet your lyin butt, that truth will never be told. My reason for knowing this: Lyin Les and Mr. Lonnie asked ME to serve and I couldn't at the time.I was THERE when Mr. Lonnie brought the splash pad people in, so was Les and Mr. Doug Seal.

sounds like the people who were so "involved in the project" didn't follow through to see how things were coming along. People are quick to blame, as long as no one blames them. Pitiful.

Per The Echo, Tommy Kidd says he's "Taking the High Road." If he does, it will be the first time. This small town fat cat is a cartoon character. Our own Boss Hogg. Far as we know, his doing the same job for the city & county, at $30,000 per year each, is illegal & still under investigation by the state. So is Ray, who voted for two years to pay his own brother. If the city council had any gumption at all, they'd vote to give Tommy his walking papers and get on with real city business.

Who exactly are "les' legion of liars"?? The people who disagree with you? I don't know if Lonnie was involved or not, and I really don't care to argue about that. I just want to know who are these horrible people that you and others say are "liars"? How many extra "un needed" employees were hired by Les? And how many have left that arent on the pay roll anymore? What is the pay roll now compared to when Eddie was in office? What are the salaries now for these people compared to what they were under EF's admin?? People here throw out all kinds of "facts" but never name names or give any substance to what they claim. This reminds me of that horrible blog that went on about Eddie, the fire chief and the police chief. Anonymous accusations that had little basis. Show me the figures - ones that I can confirm myself - and I'll be a lot more inclined to listen to what you guys have to say. Otherwise, it's all just "i heard this" and "i hear that" and "someone told me so and such" and "so and so did whatever", and "people at city hall are on the internet" (and how does anyone know this "IP" stuff??) If you have proof of something, bring it on. If not, a bunch of us could care less what ANYONE here has to say on either "side". Never any concrete information here.

The king of kompost, the drunken derilict and the prince of potties spends WAY more time printing funny money than they do checking their facts. Good luck there getting them to be specific about anything it aint going to happen. I overheard one of them at a local watering hole saying that the 6 new hires are for the fire department but a friend in the fire department says he hasnt heard a thing about this. so go figure more gossip from that bunch of losers. Something smells and it aint my feet.

Eddie Farve and the city council at the time made all of the "promises". THEN, katrina hit and the annexation proceeded while the county ignorned that area and got NO fedral funding for projects or improvements. No one complained about the county ignoring Shoreline Park, but they sure complain now and blame Les Fillingame. Les inherited that blighted area that should have never been developed to begin with so many years ago..it is a swamp with a piss poor water system and bayous and canals and ditches that flood when it drizzels rain, keeping the roads in shit shape and nearly impossible to really improve. If you build in a swamp, you get what you paid for. Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear is a daunting task. Be realistic and fair in your accusations. Living in this "swamp" may have it's benefits, but you have to accept that it is what it is. Les is the ONLY person who has EVER made ANY effort to improve that area...did the county EVER do ANYTHING for Shorline Park? No! Honestly, can you say that I am wrong??

Isnt the marina a done deal? Why keep beating a dead horse? And put the beachfront back the way it was before katrina? Really?? No seawall, no protection?? Sorry, i really gotta disagree with that. In addition to a new and protected downtown WITH a beach as before, WITH great places to eat & drink as before, a marina is being added. Humm..lets see, I can go fishing, pull into the marina, refuel, go up on Main St and hit 200 N Beach, Lulus, Trapani's or one of the other places to eat, shop in old town and head back home with a full tank of gas. Or maybe I could hang out for a while on a friend's sailboat where they'll be docked there for the night after sailing in from Mobile or N.O., hit up Gabbie's with them and sleep it off on their boat docked for the night at the marina. Yeah, sounds like a horrible idea. Who would ever want to come here for that??

Please check these facts with the Council Clerk before distorting. Ward 5 & 6 Has genersated an average of $225,000 annually in road taxes that the city HAS GOTTEN. Ward 5 & 6 has generated an Average of $525,000 in property taxes the city HAS GOTTEN. Since 2008 when annexed approval meant beginnings of payments to city and collected in Les' first year till now, that adds up to $3.4 million city has GOTTEN. A DAMN LOT OF IMPROVEMENTS can be done by what WE CONTRIBUTE to the City.
Give Les more, we get Less!

You've got to love these anonymous web boards where cowards hide behind their user names and post garbage like this. For the record I am Steve Kidd. Youngest son of Tommy Kidd and nephew of Ray Kidd. I have recently started following some of this so called discussion on Topix and feel compelled to post. First off, I am a firm believer in freedom of speech, and wouldn't want it squelched in any way. However, if you are to be given any credibility, I think you should identify yourselves and show some respect for your fellow citizens.
What do you know about this man you call "Boss Hogg"? How long have you known my dad? Do you have any idea how much of his life he has dedicated to improving his community? Do you care to find out, or would you rather just hide behind your alias, and continue your senseless diatribe? I think I know the answer, so I digress.
You say if he takes the high road it will be the first time. Really? Please enlighten us on this. This 72 year young man gets up every morning around 5am and doesn't let his head hit the pillow until around 11pm. He spends every day doing the work of 2 or 3 people. His cell phone NEVER stops ringing, and he takes every call. He responds to everyone promptly, addresses their concerns, and gets the job done. In my opinion he works way too much. I wish he would retire already so he could come to Florida more often and visit my wife and I and spend more time with his 3 year old granddaughter. I'm sure there is nothing more he would like as well, but he feels his work is not done. He's right. Hancock County needs my Dad and he needs Hancock County. There are some people who just take ownership even in the face of adversity, then there are cowards and wannabes... people who have no respect for others who built the community they live in. The attitude I see is "Get out of my way old man, it's my turn" That day will come soon enough, but not now, not because of the lies told on this so-called "forum". My father and uncle Ray will continue to do their work until THEY decide their work is done. The timeline will not be set by the likes of you, or others who would slander them while hiding behind their keyboards.
Call me bias, that's OK. What kind of son wouldn't come to his father's defense after reading stuff like this?(especially when his father doesn't know how to operate a computer :)

REVENUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE!
EF annexed "you" for the potential commercial revenues along 603 and at the I-10 interchange, not for the residential property (or the blighted properties that are rampant in that area, even worse now since the storm). And $3.4 million...IF your figures are accurate, just what do you think $3 million gets you these days, anywhere? That's probably what it would cost to properly build up Central or Lagan (several feet so the ditches won't overflow the street in a hard drizzle with a east wind at high tide) and re-pave either one - MAYBE $3.4 would cover that, but I'm not so sure - and what about the rest of the MILES of below ditch level roads?? I don't know where ANYONE could find enough money to fix that problem!! Fill in a pothole, the ditch water washes it away..clean the ditch, and the bayou fills it back up...clean the bayou and the river fills it up. You CHOSE to live below "ditch level"...no one is to blame for that but YOU. Hell, that place has flooded SO much over the years the govt almost wanted to buy it all so they wouldnt have to keep forking over money every time it flooded! And "revenue"???? Heck, I can EASILY name 10 people (combined)that pay $750K/yr. in property taxes alone in wards 1, 2 and 4!! If that's all that wards 5/6 generate per year, then...wow! And since when does the "council clerk" (that would be "clerk of council" actually) keep a running ledger on revenue and taxes? Perhaps the tax assessor or city clerk would be a better source of info on that. Oh, and by the way, Les' "first year" wasn't in 2008...try july of '09. What did EF do with the $750,000.00/year you say your area generated from October 2007 to July of 2009?? Give me a break from the Joey/Lonnie/Sam/Jeff crowd, and get YOUR figures straight...geeez you guys just cant' help yourselves, can you! lol!!

Quit blaming the Joeys etc...and thinking they are the only ones speaking out. Thanks for the kind words. I do have some pretty credible sources (in my opinion). I also can read local papers online. Having said that, it's not so much the discussion or even allegations so much as the tone, lack of civility and downright nastiness of some on this forum. If they would not say it to my father's face, then they shouldn't be saying it here with anonymity. But I guess that's the world we live in now, right?

That's the small town way of life and politics. Most of us are pretty laid back folks but you're always going to have the "what's in it for me" groupies. It's unfortunate.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
