What is wrong with people today? Ok he may have been suspiciously close with your soon to be ex-wife, how does that justify brutally murdering him? I am not a believer in prison but this is just unacceptable in society and I hope the judge/jury lock him up for some time. How terrible of a person must you be to plunge a knife into young man just starting his adult life; its just a tragedy on all levels. I am slightly relieved Mr. James has the sanity within his family to have talked him into doing the right thing by turning himself in. It is most unfortunate that two lives are in ruins by the actions of one.

What a tragedy! Not only is one life taken and one ruined, but the ripple effect through family and friends is immeasurable. Many lives have been forever changed by this one selfish act of cowardice. It's not about "infidelity" (although I think any woman or man in the midst of a divorce is foolish not to wait until it's final), it's about power..... in the hands of someone who obviously has untreated mental illness.

Benjamin James is a sweet talking drug addict, who is deeply in debt with his suppliers, he took advance payments from customers, then left the job, he took frequent bender trips to Maine, leaving his family without food and fuel oil.

Forget what his wife was doing or not doing, this man has been comming unglued for the last year. No big surprise. I doubt it was jealousy, probably drug related.

Ben James has been a sweet talker for many years. Who knows how many people he has manipulated, used, and harmed. I agree with "reality check" that this was probably drug related. I would hate to think Stefan lost his life over a relationship. If he was involved in drugs, he was knowingly putting his life in danger.

We all like to think we are so much better, but really we could find ourselves in the same position as either of these two in this tragedy. Do drugs or 4-wheeling make us less human?

Oh please Ann, riding an ATV does not make you a drug addict or an accused killer. Last I checked many people who have no interest in ATV's have also been arrested for murder and/or using drugs. Judge not!

People need to step back & stop judging. How would you feel if this was a member of your family, or a friend? Anyone that is bad mouthing Ben, do you know him or his situation? Atleast he turned himself in, he knew he was wrong. He's a good guy going through a rough time & apparently no help from his wife. Also there is always two sides to a story.

I knew Ben James a few years ago shortly before he was married, he was a great guy from a great family. I attended church events with him and his brother, they were both kind, wonderful young men. Obviously he took a wrong turn somewhere, and don't we all? Though this is a terrible tradgedy I think we need to consider both sides, and be sympathetic to Lasak's AND James's family, in this difficult time. None of us know the complete truth about this story.

I just like knowing that I whooped this kid about 5 years ago in East Hampton for running his mouth. Trouble followed him everywhere, while the news was somewhat surprising, finding out that he was the one that did it wasnt all that shocking.

CJB, I agree that people need to step back and stop judging, but at the same time how can you so easily state that Ben is "a good guy going through a rough time"?

It should be taken into account that at least a few of the comments here are from people who have known Ben for many years... while this is an awful event and all who know him are shocked, looking back over the years his past behavior shows his instability.

Anyone of any age, of any sex that can take a knife and plug it into another HUMAN BEING not once, not twice but three times, has a lot more than a behavior problem. Forget the jealousy or the drugs this person needs extensive mental help Who needs to judge?

what is this comment??... you actually took the time to state a ridiculous point of nonsense??...this comment just made you look like the uneducated , slime ball, who has to put other people down to make your useless life look better. I LIVE in East Haddam, I don't smoke crack pot or anything else,Bank robbed?...that happens in a lot of towns from what I know, the plane crash which was an unfortunate horrific event, makes the town "a bums paradise"? and whole towns on welfare?... your too funny ... I'm not on welfare and I bet if you look at statistics, more people in your town are probably on welfare than here...your just a big creep! GET A LIFE!

It's been a year and a half, and no word on a trial. This punks getting 3 square meals a day, he's probably still on drugs and we get to pay his bill.
I'm disgusted. He admitted stabbing a man to death, then going to take a nap afterward. He is the perfect candidate for capitol punnishment.

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Libra

Happy New Year, Libra!. How's that poor old body feeling this morning?! If you're having a gathering, include casual acquaintances or newcomers as if they were one of the family. You're a real social animal and you know how to put people at their ease. This is a wonderful talent: not only do you have a network of friends and social contacts, as well as business ones, but you have the ability to bring others together. Perhaps you should start a dating agency this year!
