curse Lawtey for speeding tickets!

just got a ticket in Lawtey for going 1.5 MPH over the speed limit. That dumb cop pulled me out of the car, cuffed me, spit at my wife, and then said I was resisting arrest! What is going on in this county? where are all the good pro-bono lawyers? Once I dropped the "Lawyer" word the cop let me go with just the ticket. This town is insane. Boycott lawtey!

Hey, just thought I'd weigh in on this from another perspective. I was pulled over in Waldo and the guy was SO nice. He did not give me a ticket. I was not speeding, but I had expired tags((OOOOPPPPPS)) So, they are not always evil.

You can not get a ticket for going 1.5 over the speed limit. If that is truly the case then take it to Court that is your right. The speed limit is 45 and you have to be doing at least 53 for them to stop you, that's right Butch Jordan allows you 8 over the posted speed.

Butch Jordan is the Chief of Police in Lawtey. The City of Waldo is a whole other story altogether.

Travelers have branded Lawtey to be a SPEED TRAP but thats not true.
The police force are doing there job.

If you speed then you not only put your
life in danger but anybody else that may be around you.

We have a school just feet from 301 yet our school zone is not near the school but at the red light.
Due to all the bad publicity they made the school zone shorter making the speed limit 45 going pass the school.


So if you can't take a detour then just SLOW DOWN and do the speed limit or you just may meet the silver bullet in person.

Well If ANYONE gets a ticket for Speeding in Lawtey or Waldo....WELL...Your not very BRIGHT!!!! Obviously...you can't read!! Especially when there is a billboard on 301.... COME ON!!!

Leave Waldo alone!! That's my town and we don't have a problem with speeders.
You should know better than to speed in Waldo. There are signs posted and Triple A even lists it as a "speed trap"
Moral of the story: Don't speed in Waldo.
Oh..and don't speed outside of Waldo either...I got pulled over for doing 10 miles over by FHP and they gave me a $200 ticket.
Waldo cops probably would've given me a warning!!!

Drove through Lawty and Waldo for YEARS with a bad speedometer--indicated ~7MPH LESS than actual speed and I ALWAYS drove ~5 Over the Limit. The speed limits are reasonable, NO ONE GETS PULLED FOR 1.5 MPH OTL (except in special zones, NO $$ TICKET even legal in FL for <5 OTL), and if the officer "spit on your wife" I have to suspect you are a total #&^*@^hole. In my "youth" I got a fair number of speeding tickets--I was ALWAYS in the wrong and I knew it--truly DO NOT BELIEVFE 99% of those who tell you otherwise--if you volunteer to pay into the state/city coffers by going, I am sure MUCH more than 1.5 OTL, then "quit your bitchin'" and pay up like a "man" (or woman--just quit whining like an newborn babe).

I live in Lawtey, and it is a great town. I'm in support of our Police Department; they are doing their job as it should be. How hard is it to go 45 mph for about 2-3 blocks? Also,keep in mind we have a "school" alongside of 301 and we consider "our children's" safety to be our first priority. We are a small town but a "GREAT" town to live in and raise our children. Just don't go over 45 mph and all will be well... I think the first comment is a "LITTLE EXAGERATED" ... our police would not do that! Get a life "broke - desparate - and hungry"

being from starke I drive through Lawtey and Waldo frequently and have for over 30 years. Never received a ticket because I believe the speed limit is what the sign says. You won't believe how many people fly past me despite the posted speed limits and those saying speed strictly enforced. Can't they read?

STATE LAW ONLY ALLOWS WARNINGS FOR SPEEDING 5 MILE AN HOUR OR LESS. Tell the truth about your traffic stop...I know it may be painful!!!

While I believe the police should do their job in keeping speeders under check, I find it an embarassment to my county and city of Starke when six cops and three police cars are parked on 16th Street pulling over citizens going 6 to 10 miles over the speed limit on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I have even seen them get in the middle of the road and point their speed gun at cars. This is a shame and citizens should speak out that their tax paying money is going to support such. I cannot even take a walk on Sunday and Saturday morning for all the cops at the end of the street. I think it is a joke and even the cops that are doing it are ashamed that they have to participate in such. Johnson has tried to do some good with the city cops, but this is an area that I guess he gets too much money from his fellow citizens to stop the cop show. Johnson...why don't you put one cop there and send the others to areas where they can catch more speeders. It is crazy to drive down my street and see this every weekend. Please stop and use some common sense with our tax paying dollars. I am sure there are better ways to "protect" us citizens then pulling us over and treating us like criminals. Go get the real criminals and speeders...they are not serious criminals or speeders at that location...you are only aggravating good citizens and tax payers. Go to the places where there are serious crimes and protect us. That is what we are paying you for!!!

State Law only allows a Traffic Citation for more than 6 miles or more over the speed limit. 5 mph or less is only a warning. THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL - PAY THE TICKET "LIAR".
