Oh my goodness, I am a mother of a 3 year old... To the best of my knowledge I have never met anyone or a seen or heard of a day care placing a 9 month old on the floor to SLEEP. At 2 yrs of age the pre-schools place poof mats on the floor for the children to nap in. My heart breaks for this family. Losing a child is by far the most heart breaking, and depressing thing a mother and father can go through. Be cautious of everything surrounding your little one. Make sure nanny's are putting them in equiped cribs. Condolences to this family and Nanny, who im sure is in deep mourning- She is human also people, lets not leave it to the media to make her out to be the bad one.

How exactly did a book case fall over onto this child? By law they are supposed to be secured to the wall in any location that may be accessed by a child. I am so sorry for the family’s loss.

Having had a daycare myself for a few years I am aware that on occasion there are unexpected circumstances that arise and daycares, just like with anyone else you have to do whatever it takes to improvise. It sounds to me that this is the case in this situation and personally, I feel that unless you have run a daycare or worked in one, you should not point a finger.
In an event such as this it is easy to say that you have never done that, or wouldn’t allow it but truth be told in an emergency everyone does what they have to do. I read the full article and it seems people have missed the part that said she had been in business for ten years without any problems.
I think that this was an accident, unfortunate as it may be; I doubt very seriously that this daycare provider intentionally placed a child where he or she would be hurt. Here’s a thought to the self righteous- those who live in glass houses, probably shouldn’t throw stones.

I have to say I disagree with all of you. I am a mother of 2 and I have a crib for both of my babies and sometimes when I am home with them and doing laundry I let them curl up on the floor with their blankets next to me and take a nap. There is nothing wrong with it! I even get up to do other things and they sleep soundly on the floor. Just because the book case fell on this poor child doesnt mean it was the daycare providers fault!(Unless it was some thing sketchy) I know that I would not 2nd guess my provider if I found out my babies were sleeping on the floor in a room, with being periodiclly checked in on. You are all being too hard on the Provider. Unfourtunate things happen. And sadly this time it took a small childs life, and my heart goes out to all those involved in that childs life. It is a horrible loss for them.

The baby sleeping on the floor I don't see as strange. My daughter had a baby einsteins mat that she would take naps on when she was little. The crib was more for night sleeping or if I needed to clean while she napped.
I don't get how the bookshelf fell on the baby though. There is no mention of that. There was no earthquake or anything. Why was the shelf not secured to the wall if this was a nap room?

My grandmother lived next door to Cindy for many years and she is not a bad person. She may have made a terrible mistake by placing that child on the floor but that does make her out to be a monster. This is something that that will stay with her everyday and if she could do it differently I'm sure she would. My thoughts and prays go out to the parents of this child.

My thoughts and prays go out to the family of this child.

My heart goes out to this family. I could not imagine the pain they feel losing their child. I am sure that the daycare provider did not intentionally set out to hurt this child. But her lack of action or inability to take correct action contributed to the death of this child.

Unattended babies should never be left to sleep on the ground in daycare.

i went camping this weekend with some friends and i was told about this baby and from their reaction, i think the parents of this lil guy are going to need lots of suport and less negitive. they are mourning the loss of their child and the last thing they need right now is the MEDIA running it in the ground. they trusted Cindy to take care of their child and in ten years nothing has gone wrong in her day care, things happen and its not always "somebody's fault" tragic as it is, just pray for these people and lets not throw stones so to speak, there are alot of people that this has effected and will continue to effect for the rest of their lives. to Landons parents, your in my heart, prayers and my thoughts .I wish you both well.

You can play the "What if" game all you want. The issue isn't with the baby sleeping on the floor. That's why there are toys and blankets specifically made to placed on the floor. The floor is safer than a couch where the baby, especially a 9 month old could roll over or fall off. "Dirty Floor?" Yeah... think of the most negative surroundings and project them in to your example. The Day Care home has had zero problems in the past. If you're going to specualte on what was or what happened, try of thinking of somehting more reasonable. The issue is why the cabinet wasn't secured to the wall and the lack of supervision. As if those of us who have kids have NEVER, EVER, left their kids a lone in a room while they napped. And what if the cabinet fell on the crib or the baby still died? What then?
Most Day Cares will disclose what type of services they provide. In our case, we had to provide our own carseat just in case she had to go somewhere. Also... if we wanted special or different snacks or whatever.

Perhaps this day care has been operating without incident because there are not enough social service funding to be checking on such things. Obviously there is something wrong if a small child is not in a crib, there is no baby monitor & a bookcase can easily topple over on him!!! This is negligence.

All three of my children have been known to fall asleep on the floor. I don't think that really is a problem. Maybe the baby woke up and used the shelf to pull himself up. It should have been secured since this was a child care facility, but I really don't think Cindy set out to hurt this child. Maybe the shelf was secured and the strap broke. This is an accident of the worst kind. I don't think Cindy should lose her license, but I wonder if she will want to continue. I wish all parties involved the ability to forgive and heal.

Right... if the strap broke... then I'm sure there would be people who would ask, "Why wasn't it checked?" Like I said... you can play the what if game all day long. Until the news comes out with a little more detail....we just don't know what happened.
What if a plane crashed in to the room the babies were sleeping in and the care taker survived? Would she be at fault for leaving the babies in the room alone? Some of the lines of logic here aren't so straight.
The owner is still going to sued of course.....

Sure his ending was tragic but God was calling him home, there is nothing wrong with a child sleeping on the floor.
To the parents your child is being well taken care of he is in great hands.
To the day care owner, accidents happen, but when it's some one's time to go they are gonna go and we don't know how it will happen. Sure the bookcase could have been secured to the wall but it was his time to go, so if the bookcase didn't fall on him something else would have taken his life.
God Bless

That is terrible and my prayers are with the family.I am also a father of three and it makes me very angry that the child was UNSUPERVISED while the day care provider was probly watching T.V or something. I hope to open news 10 website oneday and see that Aunt Cindys day care is held responsable!!!!!!
