I pray for the speedy recovery of Cayden, and RIP Mr. Nowlin. My deepest sympathy and sorrow goes out to you and your family.
I also pray for the family of MR. Schilling- THEY have to live with your decisions

There is no reason for a high speed chase these days. Cops have radio's. Radio's are much faster then cars. All the cop has to do is get the tag number. This is just one more black mark for cops. Maybe these cops are related to Oklahoma cops.

I was wondering how long it would take before some total moron posted that this was the police's fault.

You are that total and complete moron. Congratulations. Your suggestions to just get the tag number show your complete lack of any kind of ability to think beyond what is directly in front of your face. What if it was a stolen car? Having it's tag number would be a big big help then, right stupid?

Oh, the police could simply radio ahead and halt the chase. And then all the guy has to do is TURN OFF OF THE ROAD because they don't know which way he is going to go.

Oh, and so they do radio ahead and by some stroke of luck they do manage to see him. You think he is any more likely to stop for those police he radiod ahead to?

Holy cow. Some of you people are simply too stupid to breath air, so I wonder how you manage to survive.

This is not the fault of the police, you idiot. It's the fault of the fleeing felon.

Police chases are murder.

The cops could have terminated the chase at any time and saved the lives of these people, but they let their egoes rule just like the steroid freak that pulled over the ambulance,

!00% right. At any time it could have been called off. But Cops push the envelope as far as they can because they are not the ones who have to pay the cost. Just look at all the other drivers those cops endangered. Opppps, i forgot, it was the guy they was chacing that endangered them.

I agree to some of what is said here. I believe that their are very few cases that warrent highspeed chases this day in time. I dont think its so much the officers pride or ego. I think its training. I believe that if you are chasing someone and you are causing them to reach higher speeds by doing so then common since should dictate that you slow down radio ahead and try to get a grip on the situation so it doesnt reach the point that this accident did. It may have happened anyways but either way it sure doesnt help to chase someone 100 mph. Its a disaster waiting to happen!

I agree with you at the expence of being moron that dont know how to breath air and survive. lol.
There are always other ways to deal with chases. Most cops will not back down or give a little common sense because they thrive for the chance to use their guns and race our hiways. Im not saying all cops are that way but i have seen more that are then arent. I think its called brownie points. Mabey the SOP.(standard operating procedure) needs to be updated because this type thing have been going on for 50 years that i know of.

This is a darn if you do, and darn if you dont situation. Its sad to hear about the fatalities here, and I agree schilling is the main fault factor. However, the police were doing what they were trained to do. I have seen where the police have chased and controlled the driver by blocking them in and slowing them down to avoid collisions... and of course we have tradegies such as this. Its a gamble. Unfortunately, the innocent in this case...loses. However, if they just let people like this run and let them go....dont you think they will continue to keep breaking the law and running?? Then people will keep bashing cops and say they arent doing their jobs. So honestly folks.... do we let people get away with crimes or do we try to control them? If you have an idea of how to control high speed chases without ending in tragedy how about sharing your ideas?

have you ever been in a chase? have you ever had the rush associated with catching the bad guy? have you ever remotely been close to this situation? didn't think so... I do not sugest we should go out and chase EVERY idiot breaking the rules, although under certain circumstances the chase is warranted, as far as he OPPPPS coment, it would be ooooops, and if were to arrest people just to make taxpayers pay more, then we would start aresstng people with NO REASON to get feathers ruffled on these forums for being STUPID!
For the Families who suffered such a great loss yesterday, my deepest condolences and prayers! Get well Cayden.
For the Families of people with ignorant posts, My prayers go out to you as well, although I would not admit any type of association to the intelligent people posting things that always knocks the law enforcement.
One question, who are you people gonna call when someone breaks into your home? who are you going to call if you are in an accident? We SURE AS HELL SHOULDN'T RUSH TO HELP YOU!!!! UNGREATFUL PEOPLE SHOULD BE LEFT TO HELP THEMSELVES! THERE ARE A TON OF YOU OUT THERE!

Police chases that involve high speed should be evaulated once it reaches the level of unsafe speeds. Is it worth risking others lives to try and catch a guy over an assult? The answer is NO. This Dad has lost his life and his child is in critical condition over cops chasing a guy for assult. There are helicopters that can be called in, if this guy was such a threat why didn't they call them in to follow him? I am outraged about this tragedy. May God help this family.

I don't fully understand why law enforcement think that it is ok to pursue people. They are just as dangerous as the ones that they are chasing. I think every state should have a no pursuit law. If that were the case than the wreck would not have happen.

Two wrongs do not make a right. I do not believe it is in the best interest of the driving public to pursue someone when it becomes obvious they are going to run at high speeds. As others have stated, the police have helicopters and other means of handling the situation. It reminds me of the incident in California where the mother called police because the father was kidnapping the baby. In order to stop the father, the police opened fire on him while holding the baby and of course killed the baby. Risking innocent people's lives is never an option. The person they were chasing is certainly responsible for his actions, but the police did not help the situation. It should be common sense that if you have a criminal in a car and they are not stopping after a reasonable amount of time, the tactic should change.

Good idea, and while we're at it, why don't we just let ALL criminals go? Don't make any effort at all to apprehend any criminal for any crime committed. Say, that would mean we don't even NEED the police or any other law enforcement officers right. We would need more paramedics though. The "thin blue line" that protects us as best they can wouldn't be there any longer. Welcome to the jungle:)

I am telling you people Cops are arrogant egotistical morons! Cops choose to be cops because they are lazy and not qualified to do anything else.

This accident should have never happened, I agree with the poster before me that says radios are faster and safer than chasing someone down a busy street at 100 mph. what were they thinking? they should be fired and charged with 2 counts of murder.

Omg another high speed death.. I feel there is no need for highspeed chases especially on the highways. When doing so I feel our lives are in jeopardy every minute we are on the roads. I know officers are just doing their jobs but come on a simple game of cat and mouse can easily turn bad!

Thank yo so much for your post. There are people who just hate police officers and they find any reason to complain about them. Officers are condemnd with whatever they do. If they get drivers for speeding they are ticket happy and want the money but when a driver causes a wreck because of excess speed the officers are not doing their jobs. And just like this case, the family of the victim that Mr. Schilling assaulted wanted him captured and if he would have gotten away they would have complained but since the officers were trying to capture him so he didn't hurt another individual and this unfortunate accident happend they are complaining that they are just adrenaline junkies. I have said once and I will continue to say it, "I hope any of you people who commplain about our law enforcement personell never need them and if you do I hope you appreciate that they put their lives on the line for you each and every day.

My prayers go out to both families and the officers involved in this tragedy.

Okay before I even start. Yes I do have several family members and friends that are law enforcement.
With that being said you are such an idiot. They put their lives on the line every day so you and your family can be safe. They deal with strung out drug dealers, drunk drivers, and stupid people like yourself every day. They are not lazy they work longer days than most of you people and do not get compensated for it, they do it because they are proud of the fact that they are keeping you safe. They do not sit in a car all day doing nothing. They have lots of paper work they do, they go to more schooling than most of you people do, they run, jump, get shot at, hit, kicked, spit on, each and every day. And you self centered people who have nothing better to do than sit on the computer all day and grip about them. Get a life and I just wish that when you needed help they could say "NO" because all you will do is complain that they did not do it the way you want.
