After reading the Journal regarding the animal shelter in Washington, I was amazed and appalled by what I read. I had no idea that Paws and More animal shelter only receives $1,000 in funding a year. If we as a community do not take action, we will be facing a very large problem. Any strays will most likely have to be taken to Iowa City. What would you rather pay for; gas to drive, or the small amount of $1.00 to help our town?

In local funding yes.. But what they failed to mention in that article is that Paws and More charges the municipalities for pickups as well. There is more money funneling into the organization than the Journal lets on. I'm not saying its enough to keep the organization alive, but, its more than a thousand a year that they take in

I realize this is OLD info as it's now 2009, but PAWS & More has never collected for pick ups. PAWS & More serves as animal control and the city of Washington uses the services the most, while "donating" the least, based on the same criteria as other communities. PAWS needs more funding — plain and simple — to continue providing these services.
