Kenosha lacks what most US cities lack - vision and imagination. This is what happens when we allow municipalities self determination. Even in prosperous times, Kenosha reflected the shortsightness of its inhabitants. Kenosha is no ghetto but just a boring grey village. If your young and have aspirations, spend some time visiting other places in the world. Granted, there are worse places but then there are plenty of places that have much more to offer. Got a computer just conduct a Google maps tour of Kenosha and you'll see what I mean - what a dive. Racine, Milw., and the rest aren't much better so go east or west. If you're real lucky get out of the country and go to Europe. Visit Kenosha like I do - online.

The problem is that 99 percent of Americans cannot work in the EU due to regulations. That aside, you are 100% correct about visiting Europe for vacation, or 'holiday' as you blokes like to say.

European cities are very well laid out. Even in the old parts of cities where it is not feasible to implant modern roads and rails, they have adapted and made them livable, usually via prohibiitng autos in those areas. Of course, this goes against us Americans way of thinking. We can't go more than a a couple blocks without having to drive there.

All that aside, Kenosha is like any old blue collar town. It has actually withstood pretty well, considering the fate of the towns in Michigan that relied too heavily on the auto industry.

I THINK ITS BAD AND GETTING WORSE! RACINE IS BAD TOO BUT IT COOLED DOWN SO IT AINT AS BAD ANYMORE.

Honey, dont kid yourself....yes your tax dollars have put up some very substandard overpriced pieces of crap, like White Caps Homes. But realisically...I have lived in Kenosha most of my life and have seen the expansion prior to the influx of flatlanders running for our boarders. Kenosha realized long ago (unlike Racine) that their economy was changing and that we were no longer a manufacturing town. So the only thing Illinois has provided us, is 1. Crappy drivers, 2. Overpriced substandard homes. 3. Inflated property taxes. But in the end, what it all amounts to is that Kenosha is an attractive city. We have some great schools, wonderful restaurants, a beautifully developed lakefront (that has a great balance of business and beach) and just a general ease of living that not many cities can boast. And that is the reason that most people choose to stay here.
I have lived in Kenosha for 3 years. I am originally from the suburbs of Detroit, then moved to MN when I was 22 where I lived for 16 years. Birthright...you confuse me. You are boasting Kenosha, and basically putting down Illinois? Then, why does your location say Chicago if you live in Kenosha? I have read all the posts here because my husband works in IL and we were considering relocating. I just have a few comments to make that may or may not help some people here. 1.As I mentioned, I am from Detroit, and RACINE scares me!!! 2.The taxes in Kenosha and Chicago are still better than MN!!!3.Your schools are REALLY not that good. Are you serious???? Just re-read your post. Do you not know how to use spell check??? Your post is a classic piece of work showing us all how wonderful your schools are!!! I am trying to be polite too. The schools in MN are among the top in the U.S. When we moved here my son started complaining that he was learning things that he learned in 2nd Grade(and he was in 5th). This place is several years behind the rest of the world. It is the most confused city I have ever seen. It's urban, rural, trashy, and stuck up at the same time. It's like Kenoshans can't make up their mind what they want to be. I have never seen so much trash in the streets. People act like their stuff does not stink, and they are just people like you and me. I just don't get it at all. I love the lighthouse, and the north side of town is nice. Birthright, most people choose to stay??? I have never wanted to leave a place more in my life!!! P.S. White Cap Homes look very nice to me(of all the old, broken down places I have seen).

When I traveled through Kenosha it didn't seem like a high crime city like you think of when you think of inner city crime. K-Town is a great town. The happiest days of my life are lived here in this town called Kenosha. There is good to be found in anytown along with the bad. It is just a matter of positive attitude about life in general that we can make our hometown, where ever that may be, a great town indeed.

You say that the area behind Walmart is bad....Have you been there in the last 5 years?
I own a good portion of the townhomes on 43rd avenue and 44th court and have invested substancial money into fully rehabbing and improving the townhomes. All of my tenants are thoroughly screened for income, credit, criminal background etc. My tenants rarely leave me (Usually buy their own home), as I do not increase rent and offer updated, clean and safe places to live. I have not had any police calls in the last 5 years and all of the home-owners on the block know me and like what I have done. I will say that 42nd avenue is rough, primarily because the landlords are slumlords who do not care who they stick in their properties and refuse to invest in maintenance and improvements.

Ok i take back everything i said on here before in 2007. I'm the one that got shot July 24th, 2009 on 50th & 36th, just standing outside minding my own business. It seemed like after the shooting Kenosha just went buck willd! 2 weeks later there was the shirl's shooting, then after that it was the husband that stabbed his wife, then after that it was the Pawn Shop robbery......

What is really goin on?

I'm now paralyzed cuz of some stupid idiotic dudes that thought they had something to prove by shooting us instead of confrontin us face to face.

What a bunch of cowards, i can't wait to get on my feet again...and i STILL love Kenosha, nobody's gonna run me away.

I was a cop in Kenosha during the 1980s & saw firsthand the results of the great influx of welfare recipients, mostly from Illinois, to southern Wisconsin. The average single-parent family gained $150 a month & some continued to collect from Illinois under a different name. They brought youthgangs to Beloit, Racine, Madison, and Kenosha and changed the complexion of crime here forever. Janesville seemed to have dodged the bullet a little but the gang network was stretched from Cabrini Green in Chicago to SE WI. The Tolefree brothers sold stolen foodstamps at half face value & they delivered.
I was the GOP nominee for State Assembly & Kenosha was completely run by Democrats at the time. Welfare-reform was the main issue I campaigned on. One of my supervisors took me aside and said "someone is keeping a dossier on you" and "you are cutting off your nose to spite your face". He further explained that the more crime in Kenosha the more police would be needed & the more likely I would get promoted. He further said "you make enough money you can live west of the Interstate anyway". UW-P & Carthage were both also completely run by Democrats especially after a RINO professor who was on the schoolboard retired from Carthage. The KEA was totally set on brainwashing our children with liberalism. Glad I left Kenosha. Obama is an illegal-alien.

What a contrast.

A citizen gets shot but still loves the town and is going to stay.

A cop doesn't like welfare recipients and gang bangers and democrats so he gladly left town.

I also grew up in Racine before spending 15 years in Kenosha. When I attended Fratt school the principal used to come on the loudspeaker every year when school started and said "I'm very proud to announce there are no colored children attending Fratt again this year. There is one family of Mexicans but they seem like very nice people." This went on from 1959-1961. I believe that principal retired in Walworth County and lived to a ripe old age. His initials were HC.

I have a 9mm on each side of the bed and a 12 gauge pump under the bed. Guns in every room. I feel very safe. Vote for the next govenor that will give us a CC law.

Fiblandia, seriously. Please sex offender concentrate on what you do best and leave the intelligent conversation to the smart and moral people.

We do not love your tax money or anything about FIB's. Why did you move up here in the first place? Is it possible you hate FIBLANDIA? We did not want Kenosha to have 6500000 strip malls, we did not want Kenosha to have a building development everywhere we look.
Your taxes didnt build kenosha, believe it or not we had school books, music, arts and even streets well before you FIB's started flooding into our state because you cant stand the one you come from. I would rather have the mexicans move up here since they at least know howto socialize. Take that FIB of a mayor back with ya.
