I pick cotton, from my early years, until I was eighteen years old,we started from south Texas all the way to the panhandle, this journey was done every year, picking was very hard work, this way of life was very demanding, with hardships, and even dangerous, because of the snakes, in some cotton fields, but for the family it was rewarding too, we made good money, this was the only work back than,we pick cotton in order to survive. Well, I just made a cotton sack, it's about ten feet long, it made of duck canvas, I will be making more, any sizes in case, somebody need one, and wants to buy one, you can reach me at. martiniano757@yahoo.com Thanks for your time, Martin

Well if you still wanting a dupliate cotton sack, I just made one, a nine footer,it made of duck canvas, I can make them any sizes, as for my self I pick cotton, from the age of six, through all my teen years, picking cotton, was the only way to survive, back than, at the moment I'm writing a book, I have many storiesj I want to share. My name Martin is Chapa, martiniano757@yahoo.com bonniebelle wrote: <quoted text> Yes Maizy I pulled when it was sleeting AND when there was snow on the gound. I hated boll pulling times. Those times are not good memories and I sure don't miss those boll pulling days! lol I also did not like big weeding because usually there was always a big dew that morning and the beans were high and I always got wet from my neck down and stayed that way until late after noon because I was not taller than the beans. I liked chopping and picking though. I also loved to pick strawberries for Pat Burilson. Now there was some good berry picking and EATING!!! LOL I still wish I could find a cotton sack, but, I would imagine if there were any old ones around they would be rotten by now and tear apart easily. I would settle for a duplicate though.

Easy Rider wrote: "Old Cotton Picker" got that right! After working like a slave in the cotton fields any job was easy. I worked in the car plants up north after the cotton fields and thought I had went to heaven. Wet Gumbo mud was real fun to try and pick cotton in. However I see kids today that I think maybe a cotton field might help, who knows? netting a few of you knew about picking but never actually put in a full day or you would talk more about Jersey gloves with fingers cut out, and bloody fingers and back hurting so bad you wanted to die, not to mention a real picker never wanted to see a pick sack again when he got away from it but y'all go ahead and tell stories. Bet y'all picked 600 lbs a day right.

I grew up picking cotton and hated it. It was cold in the morning and hot during the day and very hard work. There is a story about Arkansas prison during the 60's where the captain come out on first day of cotton season and said the man that gets the most cotton today gets two cartons of cigarettes. Over 300 inmates busted their tails to win the 2 cartons and at the end of the day everyone was totaled up and the winner was given his 2 cartons, then the captain anounced that each man had to hit his same amount everyday from then on. Enough to make a person stop smoking!
