$1000 reward for return of buddy

Sounds like a so-called "rescue" in Michigan that Stole 5 healthy, happy, loved, and pampered chihuahuas from thier home, then pressed felony charges on the owners. All they wanted was the dogs to sell for profit. They claim to be a reputable rescue saving "mistreated" dogs from all around the US. But in this case, it was more about how much money they could make off of 5 purebred tiny chihuahuas, the smallest weighing 3lbs. People like that make me sick and have no business being around animals.

could you please fill us all in on what is happening? many of us have seen your ad in the local paper but are clueless to what is truly happening! did you lose buddy?...how did he get into the shelter and then transported? How did you find out where he ended up....and why can't you get him back? Please tell us what you can.

UPAWS is a great shelter and does wonderful things....whatever is going please don't bash them, they truly work well with local shelters and get dogs adopted!

I think people get too caught up in all the drama and bashing of people/ shelters/ rescues that they lose sight of what is truly important. If these allegations are true, then contact the appropriate authorities and let them handle it. Don't distract others from what we're all here for, and that's saving lives. Every rescue I have ever come in contact with is always desperate for volunteers and donations. Do you really think people are going to want to get involved when everywhere they look, there's drama? What good can possibly come of this? You may or may not get your dog back but have you thought about how many dog's lives you're effecting by doing this?

Yes but drama is what people pay attention to, and this is not drama, when it involves animals. Basically it is a warning to those that choose to listen. One of you supports UPAWS, and that is your choice and congrats in doing so. However when a rescue works one on one with anyone with a criminal tendecy and background, they are choosing to put those animals in danger. I check out anyone I work with. I never allow animals to go into situations which are not that of the best interest of the animals. The victim here is Buddy. he had no voice to talk for himself, he had no choice but to be taken. He had no choice on where he was to go. WE, have to be the ones in charge and make the right choices for them. Sadly it is those like the ones listed here that cause the biggest drama in the world. Me, I rather be warned and use caution and brains before working with anyone with a shady present, past and future.

UPAWS is NOT PAWS. I am not aware of any dogs from the south coming into UPAWS.. but I do know for a fact that Vilas County regularly swaps animals with UPAWS and dogs are getting into new areas and getting adopted. And I also know Binky brings dogs from down south...but they go to UPAWS??? To my knowledge he boards them and/or now has his own shelter....PAWS. No application??...that doesn't say that on UPAWS website. Have you worked with UPAWS, talked with them, been there? I am open for thoughts on any shelter that is doing something not for the dogs...but I will not bash unless I...not a 2nd party..but I have issues/concerns, etc. Show me the money and in fairness I will look into things more. Also, I too don't agree with the listing of credit problems. My credit has nothing to do with my 2 rescue dogs....they will get the care they need. Period. I have been thru rough and tough times in my life...my dogs will always be with me and well cared for....more than I can say for some people that drop dogs and cats in shelters for the damndest reasons!!

Who can explain this? This was the shelter that ADOPTED Buddy out. What is really going on with Buddy???

Good Lord people - READ IT - this is not a credit report - this is his ongoing CRIMINAL HISTORY - he is a CON ARTIST - start digging and looking up the facts on your own - it is all out there for the world to see on the Internet. Now, do you want someone convicted of THEFT BY SWINDLE to be accepting donations for animals that can't speak up and tell you want is really going on? I think not. There is profit for him to make on dogs that are fully sponsored, and then he flips them to anyone that will pay his adoption fee. He might as well start preying on the sick and the elderly next.

I agree with you, this is basically what happen to Buddy (Buddie) and I am sure a lot of other dogs, if someone was willing to look into this. You don't think this was the first time this has happen. Well of course not, it is just that they have been allowed to get away with it, just like the humane society here has gotten away with it because the authories are protecting them. Does anyone think that things like this could continue to happen if someone would stop it? People are making money off from these poor dogs. Animals, children, and the elderly are exploited because they are vulnerable. None of them work and therefore don't have money. Unfortunately, the only thing that talks in this country is money nowadays. Money means power. It does not say much for our society, does it?

I just got wind of this post. Is there anyone here that can provide a link and photos to the full story of Buddy including how he went missing or was stolen and what the status of this incident is? Have charges been pressed? Where is this information? I see a lot of anger filled postings but not enough info on what happened here.

Tuesday, July 19, 2011 approximately 4:00 pm, Sgt. Tommy Watlington was dispatched to 507 sfc 762, Forrest City, AR, when he arrived he made contact with Ms. Chloe Knudsen, and she reported that in March 2011 there was a golden retriever that had been abandon and left on her property. Ms. Knudsen stated that her husband had checked with the neighbors to make sure the dog did not belong to someone in the area. Several weeks later she spoke to Janie Hicks from the Humane Society and she told Ms. Hicks that she and her husband might want to have the Humane Society find the dog a home because they already had 10 dogs and were not sure that they would have room for another dog. Ms. Knudsen stated that Janie Hicks agreed to put the dog, Buddie’s picture out on the internet. Ms. Knudsen stated that the dog, Buddie had always been in their possession and that they had always cared for him since he arrived in March. When Janie Hicks called her and her husband in early July to say that she had found someone to adopt the dog, Buddie, she and her husband told Janie,“No,” because they had become too attached to the dog and wanted to keep the dog. Ms. Knudsen stated that at around 1:00 pm she and her daughter and granddaughters who were visiting from Florida had gone shopping and out to lunch that day and arrived back home around 4:00 pm and that the dog, Buddie was gone. Ms. Knudsen stated that Janie Hicks called her around the same time to state that she and Alyssa Aldridge had trespassed on the Knudsen property and taken the dog, Buddie out of the Knudsen’s garage. Ms. Knudsen also stated that she found out from a staff member, named Lana at Dr. Ghering’s office that Janie Hicks had illegally obtained the dog’s records out of Ms. Knudsen’s personal file and a duplicate rabies tag from the same staff member, but that Ms. Knudsen still had in her possession the original rabies tag issued to the dog at the time the injection was given. Ms. Knudsen went on to state that Janie Hicks had altered the dog, Buddie’s records to make it appear that the Humane Society had ownership of the dog, Buddie. Ms. Knudsen went on to say that she or her husband had never signed anything surrendering their rights as the dog’s owners to the Humane Society nor any other type of paperwork giving the Humane Society permission to remove the dog, Buddie from the Knudsen’s property. Ms. Knudsen went on to state that Janie Hicks told her and her husband that they would be out Monday to pick Buddie, the dog up so her husband stayed home on Monday to prevent that from happening, but that Janie Hicks waited until no one was home on Tuesday to steal the dog, Buddie from the Knudsen’s property.

I am Buddy's(Buddie's)owner and believe me I have tried to get charges filed but they continue to tell us it is a civil matter and we cannot get a lawyer to take our case because this humane society is like a "Scared Cow." One of the members of the humane society is a doctor's wife and also a member of the political machine in this town, so as one lawyer told us, "They will take the wagons and circle them so you can't get through." The "Good Ole Boy Network," is alive and well in Forrest City, AR. The deputy sheriff, when he came out protected them as well. First he told us because we didn't have "No Tresspass" signs up that basically the FSAHS could come on our property and take anything. We later found out that this was not true and he filled the report out to make it sound as if the humane society was justified in doing what they did. His name was Dept. Sheriff, Tommy Watlington. I even went to Sheriff Bobby May, and asked him to ask his officer to re-write the report to reflect what I really said and he refused to ask him. All he would do was to have me write on the bottom of the report "That this report is inaccurate" and he and I signed the bottom. I next went to the prosecuting attorney, Fletcher Long, and he as much as dared me to find someone that would charge the two individuals with stealing Buddy. This town is corrupt and everyone knows it, but no one will do anything about it. We are outsiders and they are going to protect their own. It doen't matter that a crime as been committed. It only matter that this group of "So Called Do Gooders" are allowed to do whatever they want to do. To Hell With What Is Right or Wrong. Tell me how you can fight against a system like this? Believe me I have been trying to get someone, just any one in this town to help and they won't lift a finger. In fact the FSAHS had their sleezy lawyer threaten us with a law suit, because we were speaking the truth. We have vet receipts where we took Buddy to the vet, but as you can see from my post above that did not do any good. I would like the FSAHS to produce a foster form or surrender form we signed. Supposedly, we fostered Buddy, so where is the signed form? The only time these two individuals saw my Buddy was in a picture and when they came to rip him away from his home and four-legged friends. I have recently filed a complaint against this vet for copying my vet records and giving them to this Janie Hicks. I hold him as responsible as the others involved because he, in my opinion helped them whether he admits is or not. It is my understanding that this is consider a violation of the privacy act. I thought in this day of idenity theft, this type of thing was against the law. But, as I said this FSAHS seems to be able to get away with anything short of murder, and I am not so sure that they wouldn't be able to get away with that as well. The way this town protects them. Actions speak louder than words, so how can people claim to do good when they do things like this. And, ask yourself this, if I were not Buddy's (Buddie's) owner, why would I be fighting so hard to get him back? We love Buddy (Buddie)and all we really want is our Buddy (Buddie) back. We have offered $1000 REWARD, no questions asked for his safe return.

Do you understand what happen now? If not I will send you the letter I sent the AR Attorney General and AR Governor. I also sent similar letters to other government officials. However, this Forrest City Area Humane Society seems to be somewhat of a "Sacred Cow," because no one will lift a finger to help me in this town nor in the state. It is sad that no one seems to want to protect innocent animals from these monsters.

I think you are one of the good guys. However, it is hard to tell nowadays. I learned that lesson well from Janie Hicks, my vet, and Forrest City as a whole. I think it is very sad that I now feel that way, because before I would trust everyone. I wanted to always believe that most people are basically good.

Reward for Dog
Thank you for writing your side of the story. I am still confused about some issues...mainly, why would the shelter want this dog so badly out of your house...that it would stoop to taking Buddy when you were not home? What did the shelter say to your husband to make him want to stay home on Monday?....obviously your husband thought they might 'take' Buddy when no one was home. Why did the shelter not respect your husbands answer when he told them Buddy no longer needed a home, in fact why did you not tell the shelter much earlier that Buddy no longer needed to find a home?
To me these are important questions. I look at myself as a good guy. I support shelters, spay and neuter programs, am against breed specific legislation, and try to do the right thing. Most importantly, I try to get to the bottom of things. Some of the above posters have made me doubt Binky Lavoie, and the paper trail makes me strongly wary now. I want to believe you, but there are still some holes in the story that make me wonder. I am not saying I believe the shelter and not you...I just feel parts of the story are still missing.
I don't have Buddy, nor do i know where he is. But, should I know of leads or hear something...I want to do the right thing. I want to do the right thing for Buddy.

Again - I wish I could figure it out - something is definitely rotten in Denmark but it still remains to be seen what the real motivation is here. I do believe it is still monetary as well, but I think there is alot more going on than any of us really know.:(
