Great food ... terrible bands!

I wish someone in this county would open a bar with music people actually want to hear and could dance to. That someone would be smart and could make a killing! They'd have a corner on the market. As it is, there isn't one place in the whole county where 20-, 30- 40-somethings can just hang out and have a good time. Remember the good old days when bands played songs you recognized? Yep - those were the days, my friend, and they have ENDED!

i'm glad someone else said it 'cause i've thought it about a hundred times. what is up with those so called bands anyway? they really do suck. i would love to have a place to go and listen to some real classics. not much of a dancer, but someone please play some ol time rock 'n roll - PLEASE. its what people want. i've been there a night or two when the bands start playing. and the people start leaving, including me. wish the owners would get a clue.

Gabbys was an awesome place!!! I loved it there! Great music, awesome food & wonderful ppl that worked there as well! If they was smart they would look at how poorly the yacht club does & think of what they need to do to turn it around!

What they need to do is think about what their CUSTOMERS WANT. All good businessmen/women DO! Keep the food by all means - that's the best thing (maybe the ONLY thing) they have going for them. But, after dinner, people want to listen to good music and DANCE. That's an fun time, and you can't dance to that CRAP their visiting bands play!

Who chooses those bands they have in there now anyway? If it is a entertainment coordinator (Ha!), he or she needs to be FIRED and someone else hired who knows how to bring in real talent - even a DJ would be better than those bands. What is that stuff they play anyhow besides really, really bad? I've seen the exact same thing happen that rotflmao saw - band starts playing / people start leaving. Don't the owners see that? I mean, seriously! They had a great country singer in there one night and the crowd LOVED it. As far as I know, he's never been back.

Anyway, Gabby's did it right! The Yacht Club could definitely take a lesson.

Just a thought, Gabby's is not open, the Yacht club is. Much of the Music that is played at the Yacht Club is original. The people that u know and love, where do you think they started? On stages like the Yacht. Feb 10th the Davisson Brothers Band is playing go if ur so worried about dancing they will amaze you!

Here's another thought ... maybe the bands playing their original stuff could throw in one that people recognize every once in awhile? That MIGHT keep patrons hanging around, but I doubt it because their original stuff SUCKS! Otherwise people wouldn't start LEAVING as soon as they start playing. Anyway, it's really not about me. All patrons want music they recognize and can dance to. Why don't you "take a survey" and find out? People will tell you what they want if you have the good sense to ask. Give the customers what they want and your business will not only survive, it will THRIVE, especially if you are the only one for miles around offering a good food, good music and a good time on the dance floor.

I couldn't agree more! If you build it, they will come!!! Get busy, Yacht Club, and get bands in there people actually want to listen to OR at a minimum at least bring in a good DJ. People wanna dance. Let 'em DANCE!

I'd go and bring my girlfriends if they'd bring back good music you could dance to. There are no good night spots anymore in Jackson County and that's sad.

just a thought ... gabby's isn't open and the yacht club won't be either if they don't "take notes" and give their customers what they want. their customers don't want "original." their customers want the music they know and love! i'd be right there with amy and my girls if we could listen to some music we "get" and we'd dance the night away. shoot! we'd be there until they closed the doors. i know some of our other 30-something friends feel the exact same way.

anywho ... wake up and shake up the night life, owners. you'll be the only ones doing it in this whole county. right now, i'm sorry, but it's just lame. i've tried to go and listen to the bands when i hear them advertised, several times, but the bands really do end up sucking. sorry, but its true. i'm gonna make a point of coming to see the davison brothers on the 10'th. i hope they play something i know. but if they are just more of the same, i won't be back.

U like what you like, I like what I like and I like the "originality" of the Yacht. I don't want to go to a place pay to hear music that I could have listened to on the radio on my way there for free. Go talk to a "famous" person, ask them what they think of a bar that encourages underground music. They'd say YOU are close minded and selfish.

You like the originality of the Yacht Club? Then you, my friend, are one of the few! And, just to play the "devil's advocate" on behalf of Amy and her friend, watch the door when those "original" bands start playing. They are exactly right. The people start LEAVING. So, it is clear to me and others - the "originality" of the Yacht Club is costing them business. I mean the proof is right there if you want to see it - in the grand EXODUS! You don't think they're leaving 'cause they like it, do you? Watch and learn...'cause the people don't care if they are "close-minded and selfish." They are't sticking around to listen to CRAP.

I'd like to see "the leavers" last in Nashville... Or any other music city. You all have no taste. I guarantee no other place in this county has had 400 some people packed in it to watch a COVER BAND! The Yacht Club had to of had over 400 people in it for the Davisson Brothers Band show ORIGINAL MUSIC!

I agree with almost all of you above. I think that it is good to have the type of bands they have playing there but not every weekend of as often as they do. You have to please a wide variety of people. This part is to the owners; mix it up! Bring in a cover band one weekend, next weekend bring in a DJ, the next weekend bring in your typical band. Again, mix it up. This way you will please everybody. There a a couple DJs in Ripley that you could use one weekend a month for your dance music. There are cover bands around that will satisfy those people who like cover music and etc. don't run people out every weekend, work with people to make them happy so they keep coming back.

well i, for one, have never seen 400 people there -for anything. but i wholeheartedly agree with the truth. wise up and mix it up, owners! otherwise, you are just going to keep running people off. i'd be interested to know what brings in "the crowd" if anyone was willing to tell the truth. i'd also hedge a pretty sunstantial bet that it won't be the originals! anywho, i'm going to see this Davison Brothers Band, but if there is nothing good in the first set, i'm outta there! along with everyone else.

I honestly don't think the owners realize they run people off although it is as plain as the nose on your face! I've been in those mass exoduses and headed off for some hole in the wall that played music from the juke box rather than listen to those original bands. Yuck! Mix it up is GOOD advice though. I'd love to see a DJ amd a cover band once in awhile. The most fun is had when people are on the dance floor. No doubt. I think if they were smart enough to take that advise, they would do nothing but reap the benefits and by benefits, I mean CASH!

If you don't have a blast at a DBB show then u are unable of having a good time. Their shows are always high energy, the lead singers a hottie:) and they are West Virginia boys. You'll see! Make sure you tell me when u fall in love!

I'll tell you exactly how you can gauge if the DBB band is a hit...

#1 Are your patrons singing along?

#2 Is there any-damn-one on the dance floor?

#3 Was there a mass exodus as the band warmed up?

If your answers are...

Yes
Yes ... and
No,

It was a SUCCESS! Now, MIX IT UP a little and you should realize a PROFIT!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
