I need a jOb@ It's hard. I know three men that were over the road truckers for years. They were constantly be undercut by mexican drivers. One is doing handy man work, one on a construction crew and the third is starting his own business. All still making a fraction of what they were making before. Do you have any skills, computer, sewing, woodwor king, etc? Many are selling their wares on ebay. I also know a couple that both worked at a paper mill that got downsized. They startd driving bus for the local school district. I guess illegals still can't do that here anyway.

You are right, monies aren't being spent here, they go to another country. Our current gov. isn't going to change a thing, we have to grin and bear it.

One of our local news channels advertises companies that are hiring. Last night's list included Target, The Container Store, and Publix.
My neighbor, who lost her well-paying job at a car dealership several months ago, hasn't been able to find a comparable job anywhere. She said she'll have to go to Target - at 7.00 an hour.

Ryan and Del-Rae, don't worry. You are making more money at your current jobs than at a movie theater or fast food anyway, and will have better skills to put on your resumes in the future.

I need a jOb@ Maybe you should've gone to college. Teens need jobs now a days to help them learn to be independent, to teach them to have a good work ethic. If you went to college, it would've been a lot easier for you to get a job. Don't punish teens for your pathetic life.

I understand why older people would be upset about something like this, cause I know you have bills and payments to take care of, unlike us, however, I would like to go to college, and that is a very expensive education.
I've been looking for three years, applying everywhere, and I still can't find a job for the life of me, and I'm 17. I'm actually afraid I will never be able to find a job. I have no experience. The older I get, the more and more pathetic my applications will seem, and then I can't go to college. What then? I can't expect my parents to take care of me their whole life, they can barely save up for their retirement right now.
Teens are at the bottom of the workforce foodchain, we NEED help! We have nothing to lean back on, nothing to tell employers at an interview to make them believe that we would be a good addition to their team. Then when we grow up, and have no college, no money, and no knowledge of economics, talk about a pathetic working class. America's gotta take care of its young so it can take care of you.
Every day I can't find a job (and I look every day) I get more discouraged. I just want to work, and at this point, I'm willing to work anywhere. But older people with more experience are taking the only jobs we possibly could've gotten. So don't complain about "them lazy young people these days" cause there's nothing we can do!

Your frustration is understandable, but don't blame the older people for your misfortune. People who worked for good companies for many years and suddenly got laid off would much rather work for a comparable company than for an entry level job in a restaurant or retail working for half or one-third of their former wages. Do you think a 50 year old salesperson WANTS to work at Burger King? It is not their fault that the majority of new jobs happen to be in those industries or anything remotely tourist related. The only thing I can suggest to you since you are 17 and (I am guessing) you still live with your parents would be to do some volunteer work in an industry you are intersted in or something you can carry over to your college desires. You might not get paid, but you will get experience. Volunteer work can go a long way in the right industry. Good luck.
