Kids don't like clowns. The story exploded out of England in January: A survey conducted by the University of Sheffield polled 250 kids, ages 4 to 16, and concluded that hospitals should never use clown images ...

I always wondered who liked clowns? Something that we as children were told was funny, never asked.

Clowns are like mimes, or the guy who spun plates on sticks on Ed Sullivan. People are over that and have other things to amuse them.

I'm 50 and yes, I think clowns are creepy.

Emmett Kelly freaked me out and I always got creeped out by clowns. Then I went to a church a few years ago where some "Christian" clown was performing. It freaked me out too. I am almost 60. Glad to see that maybe other kids won't have to put up with these pervos.

Clowns were never condidred "scarey" unitl Hollywood horror films used them in different films as diabolical monsters with supernatural powers. I think the circus clowns and others should have sued them for ruining it for all the rest of the kids who used to love them. They did the same with some toy puppets etc. etc. and I think it is awful that we don't put an end to these perverse horror flicks that give kids nightmares and make going to bed Hell for young kids.

I've been to Sheffield, the people didn't strike me that way at all. For the matter, I've also been to Hiroshima, also not a scared society, but a very peace-driven one, so uhh, yeah, don't really follow your logic.

ANYWAY!

Reason I despise clowns can be blamed on 3 in particular:

1) The creepy pedophile-type one that lurked at a local restaurant making balloon animals but also hitting on the young, teenage girls...EW!

2) Love Tim Curry, HATE the movie "It!"

3) That darn clown doll under the bed in "Poltergeist" just about scarred me for life.

And yet, I loved the movie "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," go fig.=)

I remember Bozo the clown when I was growing up. I lived in Orlando and I think it was a Romper Room thing or something like that. Anyways, as part of the show Bozo the clown would sing out an address to write him at. The zip code was the same as mine. I thought I was as good as dead! 32807!!!!!

I am a clown and I take offense to this article.

My clown pastor says Damn America for hating clowns!!!!!

If I find whoever wrote this story, I'm going to fake him out with a flower that actually squirts water in his face!

Mary,

Clowns have scared kids for generations, long before diabolical clowns appeared in horror movies. Don't blame the movie industry because clowns scare little kids who have never been exposed to the type of movies you mention.

Sue over this? Get a grip.

I was never scared of clowns as a child, and never met anyone who was until I was an adult. In our area, there was a clown called Lorenzo, who had a TV show on Saturdays and was really rather sweet, not too goofy or scary at all. Also there was Happy the clown, who was also very sweet and like his name, happy.
