I know people in MO who are sick and use marijuana because the pills the Dr. gave them tear up their insides.

I am tired of wasting my time with small time crimes. We need to deal with real issues and real drug problems like: METH. Isn't Missouri the METH Capital of the world? Who cares about putting a non violent marijuana user in jail, when help and education is what they need.

The TRUE GATEWAY drug is called: Alcohol.

I hate when the 'government' calls it "drugs and alcohol". Alcohol IS A DRUG!

Over 800,000 arrests last year over marijuana and over 90% ending up being minor offences.

My son a few years back just about lost everything he built, over a marijuana cigarette. Got caught in college at a party with a 'joint', got kicked out of school, and a permanent record. All for making a wrong choice? This is a non-violent issue. Education is key, not jail time.

The government classifies Marijuana the same as Heroin and Cocaine. Do you really think a 6th grader is that stupid? The government expects to lie to kids about the failed drug war and then want them to respect what "they" say?

Kids are NOT stupid and the only thing that keeps kids from drinking, smoking or doing drugs is education. Teach kids if they make poor choices that they have to consider dealing with the consequences.

Opened my eyes.

My mom was sick with cancer and passed away last year. The only thing that seemed to help her after treatment was marijuana. Unfortulately she had to buy it on the "black market" because of the stupid laws. It didn't stop her though because it was a lot better than the pills the doctors gave. Her doctor actually told her to try marijuana to see if it would help. She was against drugs, but gave it a try. She was thrilled that the marijuana worked for her sickness. I was pretty tripped out to see my mom smoke marijuana but was thankful to see her not suffer as much!

There should be more compassion from the religious right.

Come on baptist, methodist, catholic, churches. This is not a 'bad drug'. Try not to JUDGE something you don't understand.

My whole life I've been taught that marijuana is bad. I don't think it is as bad as drinking or pills that the Dr. might give you.

According to a report released today by the Centers for Disease Control, fewer Americans are smoking cigarettes than at any time in modern history.

“The number of U.S. adults who smoke has dropped below 20 percent for the first time on record,” Reuters reported. This is less than half the percentage (42 percent) of Americans who smoked cigarettes during the 1960s.

Imagine that; in the past 40 years tens of millions of Americans have voluntarily quit smoking a legal, yet highly addictive intoxicant. Many others have refused to initiate the habit. And they’ve all made this decision without ever once being threatened with criminal prosecution and arrest, imprisonment, probation, and drug testing.

By contrast, during this same period of time, state and local police have arrested some 20 million Americans for pot law violations — primarily for violations no greater than simple possession. And yet marijuana use among the public has skyrocketed.

There’s a lesson to be learned here — if only our lawmakers were willing to listen.

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but making something legal doesn't make it right -- I have read creditable information that even small amounts of marijuana can cause brain damage and lead to more serious addictions. Why is it that people need to escape their problems or need drugs and alcohol? Hmmm. Find answer to that and you will find the answer to many other problems.
