Here's an unusual sign that the holidays are coming: just in time for Christmas, a group of atheists and freethinkers plans to sponsor 11 billboards in Colorado.

Now the atheists can't complain about Christians promoting their message in public.

They will still complain, it is in their nature. According to most liberals, if you are a Christian then you are automatically a redneck and "cling to your guns and bibles." I believe in seperation of church and state, but I also believe it should not be a crime to be religious. A person should be able to believe, or not believe, in whatever they choose without being demonized by others with differing opinions. As long as you aren't causing harm, do as you please.

As a self proclaimed and proud atheist, Ofcourse I think the billboards are okay. Just like the Christmas billboards are okay. I don't celebrate Christmas like a Christian or a Catholic or like any other religion. I do celebrate christmas as another reason to be humane and giving and caring and to show love to all. Atheism is not satanism. We just chose to love and find good without obligation.

hey Blackhawk! Long time no see.

I agree, there is no crime in being or not being religious. However, with that being said, I think where a lot of Christians get themselves in trouble is because many believe that pushing their beliefs on others is ok and cry foul if another religion was to do the same.

For example, I don't mind the 1950's decision to have the word "God" put in our Pledge, but if a Buddhist asked to have it changed to "Buddha" instead of God, what do you think the response would be? If its religious freedom, why do so many christians seem to forget that they are NOT the ONLY faith in this country, a country that prides itself on religious freedoms?

If a Christian came up to you and said "Merry Christmas" you would probably smile and reply back or the very least, if you are not Christian, wish a "Happy Holidays". As a Christian, I don't mind either or, and personally think its more of a disgrace to the holiday for companies to commercialize it and associate it with shopping and presents instead of family togetherness, prayer and celebrating God (a firm reason why I believe Dobson is an a*hole for what he did about the whole Merry Christmas-friendly stores list. Thats a prime example of a Christian group forcing the religious beliefs onto others). However, if a Muslim was to come up to you and "Wish you peace this R'as as-Sana (New Years)", holy crap the end of the world just came. I use this example because I witnessed this here in Colorado Springs. The lady went off on the guy for wishing such a "terrible thing" to her.

If a Hindu went before the State and, with appropriate signatures, asked for a ballot measure to mark all cows sacred, it would be shot down and ruled unconsititutional before it even saw the ballot. But if a Christian group went in and asked for a ban on gay marriage/unions no one would say a word. Even if their only defense was "because the Bible says so".(Just an example, I'm not talking about Prop 8, even though it was HEAVILY lobbied and supported by the RCC and Mormons).

I am a Roman Catholic and I am far from being a redneck or clinging to any gun. Yet because I took the time to actually learn about the inner and outer workings (people who have actually took the time to study should know what I mean by that) of my faith and with an open mind discussed with others about their faiths and ideologies, I've been called "un-Christian" among other hateful things. Last time I checked, the only one who can tell me I'm not Christian or where I am going to go, is God, yet many feel they have the "power" to bestow such judgement.

Are all Christians this way? No. of course not. Unfortunately, a large majority do act and think this way. Maybe, we really screwed it up when we decided to break the original catholic orthodox branch and went with the 100+ denominations of the same faith.

Well said! BTW, how ya been doing? I totallt agree with you. I grew up in a fairly non-religious home and I'm not a regular churh goer myself. However, my in-laws are very religious and we often get into "discussions" about religion. Personally I think that organized religion is the worst thing that ever happened to humanity. There have been more wars, murders, and crimes against humanity in the name of religion than for any other reason in history. I personally couldn't care less if someone worships, God, Allah, Buddha, or Joe Boo, religion is a man-made organization. Religious ceremonies and traditions are not what is important, individual spirituality is what matters. Like I said, as long as it causes no harm, do as you wish. Peace out!

Hey Antonio CO, how are things going? You know, you are absolutely right! Personaly I couldn't care less what religion someone is, if they even prescribe to a religion. Religion is just a way for humanity to connect with their beliefs. Most religious customs and ceremonies are just that, ceremonies. They do not increase or decrease one's spirituality which is the important part anyway. Unfortunately, there has been more war and crime in the name of religion than for any other reason in history. Extremists use religion as an excuse for hatred and destruction. Whether you're talking about Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, VooDoo, or whatever, very few organized religions actually practice the tolerance and love that they preach. This is a bad situation, just think of the possibilities for the world if people would just learn that fact! I couldn't care less what religion someone is or what they happen to believe, or not believe in. As long as it causes no harm, do as you wish. Peace out!

Doing good. Driving home from Schriever this morning was hell. I guess when the temp outside drops so does people's ability to at least go the speed limit.

And holy crap we agree on something! lol

That's hilarious! I'm pretty relaxed when it comes to religion. I believe more in spirituality than religion. I just can't see how rituals and ceremonies devised by men can bring man closer to God. On the other hand, I'm not an atheist either. I drive my in-laws nuts because they are really religious and I'm not, oh well. I guess my views can be summed up in a statement by Albert Einstein, "Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind." There is no need for science and religion to mutually exclusive. People's own fears and prejudices are limiting factors. Nobody can grow or mature if they are bound by hate and fear. BTW, I know what you mean by the traffic. I'm surprised they were gong slow this morning, normally they drive the same in a blazzard as they would in summer! Have a good one!
