Counselor helps ex-felons find jobs

My name is Anthony, and i am an ex felon that was incarcerated, and it has been about 3 years since my release.I live in a place were people never forgive, and they don't forget. My name has been slandered all over town.What they don't know they make up.I am not a sex offender i just made a few mistakes of being young and dumb. I lived the party life. I liked to drink and smoke pot,and now all my past comes back to haunt me. I have children now, but i can't support them because were i live people just throw my applications in the trash. All i want is a chance to be able to work, and not be discriminated against. I have been told all types of excuses why i can't work at certain places. The most favorite ones are all about the Tattoos i have wich are not gang related
i just have a lot of them, and i think it makes me appear to be mean looking. Or maybe peolpe are afraid that they might jump off of me. When i work i have never had a complaint, but i have to travel so far away that it becomes a problem for me to get to work. I don't have a drivers license because i have to pay past fines before i can get them.And i can't pay fines because nobody will hire me. What to do?

What material do you have to bring to start the program? I was so excited when I read the article
I had to find out how to get involved. My spouse can't get hired have the potential but you know how society is. But can you email me please it doesn't mention the address. Thank you for the program for people like this who want to turn their life around for the better when they couldn't see it then. But realizes their is hope.

I am thinking the same way as Khadija. I think you have a wonderful sounding program, and would love to be able to help start them up all over the country. We would also be helping the whole country if we could get people to stop judging each other and and start forgiving!(Mathew 18:21-22) The money that we would save sending people to prison... and also the unemployment rate would drop! The world acts like they don't know what to do with felons. How about giving them some hope and a chance to feel as if they are important, too!! what can I do to help my boyfriend find a job in kansas city kansas with a felomy for selling pot. Every job wants a background check. He has a 12 year old son and rent among ather bills. What jobs are available for somebody with that kind of background?

Get off the pity pot.I know its hard to find a job .But somtimes you have to dig a little deeper to get what you want. when you are out there looking for a job learn how to sell yourself. If jobs are that hard to find then ,when you find one keep it and make sure that is what you want to do.I know a lto of you have had jobs so getting out there is no problem for you.

I am a felon, hold a college degree, retired from the military, do not use drugs, do not drink, and despite the obvious felony conviction, I'm intelligent. I was a prostitute who used a government computer to look up criminal histories. I am a federal felon because of this.

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl here but I believe felons are one of the most disenfranchised group of people in the US. We pay for our crimes, and never stop paying. It is a system that is designed to ensure that we fail. Cops create corruption to "catch" criminals. Probation and parole officers set up situations to watch you fail. I have had my probation officer show up at my job, in her uniform and badge, just to "put her eyes on me" (her words). I have never done anything to step out of line, or cause her a problem.

I am sick of trying, and I am sick of beating the pavement. Felons are not given hope when it comes to employment. We must find our hope in other places.

I applaud Mr. Danley for his efforts, but if a woman like me can't find work in a job above the poverty level, then how will anyone find work?

Have you ever worn the shoes of a felon and dealt with the issues even after fines and sentence has been served.

have u ever worn a felons shoes we must still deal with the problems that come with it the convition follows use everywhere u go.

i have not boken the law, but have sons that have done time . it is very hard for them to fit back the system. unable to get a job of any kind for lack of skills. it seems no one wants to give them a chance. you have to complete an application.. right there on the application is the question? have you been convicted of any crime.. that's a black mark against you already. god forgave, but mankind is our worst judge. we almost never will be good enough for our own society.

Has there been anyone who has tried to rent an apartment with a felony

I am a single mother now with two children (17 & 7). I was convicted of two class H felonies in April 1998 and have not been in ANY trouble since not even traffic. I have had two jobs since my convictions and now find my self unemployed, YES it is hard to find decent work, YES it sucks, YES life is unfair and YES people are unforgiving. But DON'T sit there and let other people control your life still. Ask yourself "Who am I?" don't say I'm a felon, say I am a good person, I work hard, I have changed. When you let other people control your life and put labels on you that is what you are destined to become you conform to what THEY want.

I have cried for the last two days because I lost out on another job that I know I was perfect for I am an educated woman and I have the knowledge and experience they needed. But of course my history caught up with me yet again. I REFUSE with all of my heart to let someone else tell me I am not a good person. I believe and YOU should believe that a mans/womens character is built on his actions everyday. Take back control of your life and find out what your state law is on Expungments and Pardons, get online and do your own leg work. You can go to you state and look at it's General Statues. Go to www.expertlaw.com and ask a questions to an attorney. You can do alot of this with very little if any money. But for me any amount is worth getting my life back. I can not get mine expunged until 20 years have passed since the last day of my sentence was served.

Awesome story and my heart goes out to you for opening up and realizing that all people are not bad people. I have a friend here in Atlanta that I have been trying to assist with getting a job. Thank you for the wonderful ideal of "Beyond the conviction." I was in a great state of depression and "Beyond the Conviction" is a great motivation for people who have pass conviction. After searching for employment for almost a year I believe that I have encountered the positive energy that your program deliver. I am a 20 year old mother of 2. I have a 10 month old son and I am almost 5 months pregnant. My first childs father is out of my life and does not pay child support. I am a licensed cosmetologist, struggling to raise my son. My second childs father is such a good man and I am doing my best to help him. He is 25 years old and was released from prison in January of 2007 for Grand Larceny. He was sentenced to 5 years and let out after 3. We are both very excited about our baby and at the same time we are sad because we dont have the money to raise our children. I am currently living with my parents in KC, MO and he is living in Jackson, MS. I am doing the best I can to help him get up here before our baby is born. We are going to be a family and raise our children the right way. It has been really hard and if anyone can give me any info on helping my boyfriend find a decent job up here in KC, I would really be greatful. He is really good at any kind of job. I have a felony from 1999 aggravated fleeing and atheft tooo from 1999, I it is very hard for me to get work. I have a good work history and i am a good worker.I find it hard to believe that i can build test equipment for the armed forces an so on and get fired along with others but not good enough to work at walmart. How can you jugde me on my life choices when i was 18 dont you want to see my rresume and call my refernces?

I have been charged with 2 counts of forgery 8th degree. But I haven't been convicted yet. I cannot find employment I have done Office work and Floral design all my life. I have 4 children, no Support system basically alone in the state of Kansas my husband is divorcing me leaving me out on the street no money, no job, no hope...I have been in the hospital 3 times for suicide and about to do my fourth I can't handle this...I AM ALONE..and theres no help...I have bills and cars being repo'd I want to die...I am no use to anyone not even my children call me anymore.Someone out there please help
