Been hearing this type of B.S. for over twenty years for one reason or another. You will never get the big company drivers to shut down, almost all of the owner operators are gone these days, so please dont fool yourself by belieiving all the truck stop crap "it will not happen". Sorry man I am on your side and feel for the truckers and our economy, but every one bitches, but will not step up.

I might be an "army of ONE", but I know I will be shutting down for one day. Just trying to spread the word, several in MO are doing the same. I appreciate your words of support Smitty.

I don't drive anymore, but I will spread the word and support you guys that do. I remember back in 1996-97 when fuel reached $1.79 in some places and we all took a big hit and lost allot. I believe if we would of striked back then we wouldn't be in the position we are in today. Big business know they have us all by the balls and are twisting for everything they can. I know if every truck shut down for one day they would get the idea.

don't you just love guys like Smitty with their positive attitude? If your going to be part of the solution stop being part of the problem!

why would they shut down they are not fooling anybody. When gas went up their delivery prices went up, the price of food went up, as we all know any time gas goes up nothing changes but prices because the more it cost to drive the truck, and like i said the more it cost to deliver.so why shut down just charge more. has cab fare went up? public trasportation has not (YET).

Im a wife of a tucker,
It will take more then one day to hurt big fule companies. Do you all think of how much a driver gets paid for being away from his/her family? from 25 to 38 CENTS a mile. Then the drive has to pay out of this world prices for food and everything else he might need. |

its not about the oil companies, since they already make $40 billion in profit annually. its not about the price of fuel, and its not about us bitching and moaning all the time. like Smitty, from Stover, MO mentioned; "Big business know they have us all by the balls and are twisting for everything they can." Truckers and simply just truckers, we do not fight for one another, and we most likely do not support each other. To get the pay, and respect that we deserve for company drivers and owner operators we need to stand up. Just imagine if every "TRUCKING COMPANY" shuts down for a period of one week. Imagine! If all of us step up to the plate than all of them will take notice and thats when we will get fair wages and the respect. As for now, you are only a truck driver; you step in that truck, start it up, drive, cause pollution, and make bunch of noise. That is how people view a Truck Driver. You want to change it...STEP UP...!!!
A truck driver in Europe, Australia, and in most places in the world (except home) is considered a Professional, where they have respect, fair wage, and the need from their people. In America how can an individual, usually the father/husband, take off weeks at a time for roughly $800 a week to deliver America's goods for its consumers.$800 a week, while, wife and kids are home without their father. NOW GO AHEAD SIT BACK AND KEEP TALKING ON YOUR CB BECAUSE MOST LIKELY NOT MUCH MORE THAN THAT WILL HAPPEN. |

“Posted by roadgator on Sunday Mar 23 The news is spreading hard and fast about the trucker strike.Reports have come in that mid-Georgia has already shut their trucks down and the rest of the country is soon to follow. Rising fuel costs have got the American Trucker steaming mad and they have plans to put a stop to it once and for all.”For more information on the Trucker strike Go to this web site: http://www.thetruckingindustry.net/strike.htm ... I believe the Country, as a whole should participate in this strike. In the past People have tried to start strikes, like don’t fill up or buy gas on 1 day. That does not work. Now if everyone, everywhere did not drive for a day or two along with the Truck drivers. It might actually make a dent and wake some people up. So on Tuesday, April First 4/1/2008 Do not drive your car. Discuss this with your Bosses.. Encourage them to do it also. It will help them and their Company save money in the long run also. If everyone supports these truckers and lowers cost everyone could save in many different ways. If Fuel cost is cut even by 50 cents. Retailers could have more sales etc, or better yet they would be able to lower their costs to the consumer. Think about it. If you support this please copy this and paste it on as many topix forums you can. I am sure I will be bashed for this I don’t care. Bash away, I am still supporting my husband and all the other truckers out there. If only it was that easy. You obviously don't understand how this all works. We are a small company and have requested several times that they pay us more, but they refuse and go on to the next underdog that will haul their freight for the price they want. By the way, public transportation has gone up! Also, look at how much it costs to get on a plane now! Speaking of flying, it's pretty damn pathetic it is cheaper to fly then to drive a car. Airfare was always higher. If you don't know what you are talking about, shut your mouth!!!! |

I'm a owner operator in a NY truck stop on strike, and im the only one doing it....look all we want is the cost of operation to go up with the higher cost of fuel, tolls, parts, tires, insuran ce ect.For sum reason the cost of all of this doesn't get to us.The brokers are double or triple brokering these loads which is a huge problem and the Internet is a way in which this is done. They are destroying this once profitable way to make a decent living.Let me give you a examples of just two aspect of expense in our business..If a truck getting 5 miles per gallon and the cost is $4.35 it cost that owner of that truck 87 cents a MILE....now i figured 5 miles per gallon because with the idling and winter blend fuel and every one grossing out these loads to the point of being over weight and the new trucks today that's on the money.I had a wiper motor changed out up in watertown NY at tracy frieightliner and the cost of this was $499.45 dollars. Is there a end to all of this? the only one who can fix all of this our government the same ones who let it happen...
