Damien celebrations draw to a close - Hawaii News

This is a wonderful part of the history of Hawaii.

Mahalo Father Damien, and Thank You for taking care of our families at Kalawao and Kalaupapa.

We are forever grateful for your service to our families and those afflicted, less fortunate, outcast and abandoned on those once desolate shores by the Kingdom of Hawaii.

Mrs. Dominis (Liliuokalani) once gave you a medal. But you did not wear it.

Instead, you chose to serve and live among those suffering souls on the shores of that peninsula of Moloka'i.

The Catholic Church claims that there have been two "miracle cures" after praying to the dead body of Father Damien. It is not surprising that some gullible women will believe this.

What do they conclude when it doesn't work?

They are not worthy?
They don't have enough faith?

But never they have been conned by the cynical church.

Perform another miracle. Change this wafer and cheap wine into the body and blood of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mumble hocus pocus in Latin (the native language of Jesus of Nazareth!).
Carve another piece off Damien.
It is called Priestcraft. A relic from the age of superstition.

The church is the malignant growth.

You don't have to believe, That is, of course, your choice. What I don't understand is why you have the need to mock those who do believe in miracles, saints and religion.

Now is the time to honor Saint Damien by naming something after him, a tribute he might not have allowed during his lifetime. To begin with, maybe the National Park Service should name the park for him: Saint Damien National Park at Makanalua would be nice. Damien Memorial High School could/should become Saint Damien Memorial High School. Maybe the State could name the airstrip at Kalaupapa for the Saint, or the trail up the cliff to topside Molokai. How about the Saint Damien Sanctuary at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral, where Damien was ordained. Anyone else have some good ideas. Let's think positive instead of attacking the beliefs of others.

Atheists and non-seculars will pop up everywhere. They have a belief, like everyone else. Their ridicule of other sects are their way of trying to make converts. Which is o.k. for them. However, those who do believe, have the choice to ignore them or let them get under your skin. In other words, they have the right to legally post whatever they want, but you have the right to sluff it off or if you wish (they would probably sluff it off also and make another wonderful post about how they adore you), pray that they one day may see the error of their ways. Don't count on them to appreciate it. So walk on into the light and leave them in the dark. This newly made saint will always be known as Father Damien. He brought comfort and peace to the afflicted of hanson's disease. If miracles are attributed to him, then so be it!! Molokai calls this Belgian native their island son.

The poor Hawaiian Islands are over-crowded by the "invasive species" from the mainland. Now we have the idiot heathens. Good! The more the merrier. That way I know heaven won't be over-crowded too. Keep on mocking God, please.
