These damned Kailua people are so full of themselves. Your crappy "local" town and its crappy Don Quijote has "everything"...and absolutely nothing. It's ramshackle and stinks to high heaven. But I guess it's "some good, eh" and "eh, good enough".

What these "Kailua town" (how provincial) types are saying is...we want the big box stores for our convenience, just not in our back yard.

If Target comes to downtown Kailua, the entire town will change even more than it has already.

Traffic is already bad here during the weekends, just think about the additional traffic Target would generate. There is no real easy access to this area, so expect MAJOR reworking of the roads (one way streets, new streets etc). In my opinion, the only acceptable place for Target would be back on Kapaa Quarry Road.

Just say not to any more big box retailers in Kailua!

go bows is certainly one of those self serving clueless individuals that knows nothing but comments on everything. As a Honolulu resident why would it matter to him; it is of concern here. And he hates Don Quijote so much that he goes there enough times to digust his nasal senses. He is a heartless SOB who doesnt realize many people may lose their jobs especially in these tough economical times.

What the heck kind of store is Don Quijote anyway? It sounds like an exotic restaurant where there'd be awesome margaritas.

What is the alternative favored by the "keep Kailua Kailua" mindset?
I have been in those small locally-owned shops, but everything in there is still made in China or Indonesia cwap. Even the Hawaii knickknacks - turn them over, they say "made in China." Even the little kokeshi dolls, you'd think Japan, right? Nope, CHINA.

It's the same goods, seen in every little town in the state, but sold by a smaller version of a big box. I understand the demise of the quaint little village is something to cry over, but it will never be the same, even if all the Marts and Costcos disintegrated into thin air.
