It is evident that letter writer Paul Smith has never had the job of selecting appropriate photographs to accompany news stories.

It would have looked worse if the editor had selected a picture of the Governor smiling and looking happy at facing such tough decisions that affect so many lives.

For the record, it is not up to the state worker that Mr. Smith would have pictured. Showing the Governor is less than the GOP-preferred portrait was very appropriate -- a good choice.

It's sort of a "no-win" situation for Governor Lingle and the photo used by the Star-Bulletin helped convey that thought. Good choice.

So many events in the modern day Olympics are not really sports. "Tricks and stunts" are a good way to describe them. Next, they will add an Olympics Beauty Pageant.

Surfing and paddling would be great additions, as would sumo.

North Korea can fire off all the missiles it wants. They cannot hit anything important to the USA, including Guam and Hawai'i. Let China, Japan, Russia do the heavy lifting this time. I'm sick of "the USA has to do it".

Indeed, government should live within its means. Problem is that the people of Hawaii have forever been electing democrat parasites to the legislature and to the city council and Honolulu mayor. These parasites know nothing but to drain the blood of the citizenry to keep the bloated bureaucracy fully fed. It is a blessing that Hawaii has a Republican governor who knows to manage the budget instead of increase taxes and fees when faced with a budget crisis. But the people of Oahu are not so lucky in having a democrat as mayor and democrats in the city council. Instead of managing the budget the parasite democrats think nothing of increasing taxes and fees.
