One of my relatives has mangoes like that in Kaimuki. I wonder how many other mango tree owners have large mangoes like the one in this article? Not everyone thinks of weighing their mangoes to see if it is unusual and could be a world record holder.

And I agree that he should have waited until the mango was at least half ripe before picking it. But then again, he could have decided to pick it now before it falls to the ground and gets smashed to bits.

The Kiett variety is one of the best. Lots of sweet, juicy flesh, no strings, flat, very thin seed. You get a very good buy even if you have to pay for it. Minimum inedible parts.

If you wait for this variety to change color, you'll wait forever. The buggas stay green, even when ripe.

Maybe some of those 350 lb Samoans can.
I would rather eat 14 (1/2 lb) mangoes 1 at a time at different times.

That's a big mango but.......... I've seen bigger. Try the Manzanilla. They average 4 lbs. I sold one that weighed 6.25 lbs several years ago.
6 pounders are plentiful. Like most of the large varieties the color change from green mature to ripe mature is suttle. If you wait for the color then odds are they'll have fruit fly biles and ilo too. I have 19 varieties. I'm still pickikg from my Zill Late and Rapoza.

I wish I was your neighbor, you do share don't you? When we were younger everybody shared, nowadays, people manju with their fruits, wonder why?

Gee, I haven't heard anyone on the Big Island use the word manju (tight, stingy. I've only heard it used on Oahu decades ago. I guess it is used only on Oahu.

Wow! How about sending some of those mangoes to Fargo, ND. The ones we get in the stores here are not ripe and they are always stringy.
