We need to get rid of unions and not add more problems. Because of the unions the state in in trouble.

Hawaiians never murdered innocent Native Americans, Puerto Ricans, Filipinos and Cubans.

Just plenty of Hawaiians on every island.

Get your misdirected--and probably misplaced--opinionated backside into a classroom, claim "teacher" as your profession and then work for food.

No, I'm not a teacher, but neither am I a self-styled reformer telling frontline educators what THEY need to sacrifice to be tolerated by me.

Do you really want to be part of the solution and cut education costs? Great! Spend time with your kids, keep them off the drugs and prevent them from tagging the hallways and beating up--or knocking up--other kids.

A foundation with a Vice-President but no president? According to the EAGF website, the answer seems to be no. His biggest accomplishment seems to be getting on the Glen Beck show on FOX. I might be wrong, but didn't the balloon boys father also appear on that show? Public education in Hawaii has its' flaws, but organized labor is a minor one. Why don't we take a look at the preferred vendor lists where classroom dvd players cost $200, board markers are $5 each, and three experts are called in to paint a classroom door. Wait, that would make private business look bad. Price gouging during a crisis is morally wrong. However, when it occurs with a wink and a nod as the palms are greased everyone wins and everyone loses at the same time.

Idiot Olson says "In other words, teachers are willing to sacrifice one-fifth of their students' educations to keep the paychecks rolling in." Then he says "Teachers who are willing to walk away from their students one day per week just to avoid some layoffs are not really teachers at all. They lack dedication to their profession and don't belong in the presence of our children."

Mr. Idiot Olson, teachers are not independently wealthy. They need to have a paycheck like most other people to pay their bills and have a decent lifestyle. If you also feel that the teachers "don't belong in the presence of our children", then take the children out of public school and put them in private school.

Maybe you can work for free. Good for you. Come to Hawaii, become a teacher, and teach for free. Put your money where your stupid mouth is.

God help us! Many teachers think like you. These are the people teaching our children! Yikes, how self-entitled and self-serving. Hire teachers that are willing to teach the kids and just take the pay cut. I am willing and eager, and a lot of my friends are too. It is about the kids, not us.
By the way, I am not a teacher but I was laid off from my job and I know I can be of help. Plus I would do it for free.

Well, he got that right. That's why I'm very proud to have placed on the internet about 100 photos showing that the nations who had treaty relations with the Kingdom all recognized the Republic as the rightful government after the monarchy was overthrown.

The original documents are in the state archives. In late 1894, kings, queems, emperors, and presidents of at least 20 nations on 4 continents personally signed letters in 11 languages giving de jure recognition to the Republic as the rightful government -- these are the same nations that previously had treaties with the Kingdom. Wasn't the Spanish American War about liberating the Cubans, many of whom were languishing in Spanish concentration camps, as well as the Philipines?

I would ONLY work for free to help our keiki. I would not work for free just to make my boss or company rich. When it comes to kids/learning/school, it is a whole different thing. People who chose those fields are making a commitment to children. I may not be qualified in your eyes, but your failure to work for an 8% straight pay cut (instead of furloughing our kids) makes you unqualified for your position.
