I agree! Legislators should stay out of our business! We have our own selfcentered government to deal with. We were put on reservations and given a sovern statis, so let us be. The U.S. government already has our land what more do they want? The casino business is a battle the Native Tribes won, and the government can't handle the fact that we finally have a way to support our people. We were set up to fail when we were assigned to reservations. Dispite all of the governments efforts to wipe natives off the face of the earth, WE ARE STILL HERE!

So how come the tribes can build these casinos, split the income with the whole tribe,(not like the tribal leaders dont completely rip off everyone else by hording the money for themselves,if you dont think thats true check out what they drive)and not have to pay any taxes like the rest of us. See I think if you leave the reservation and use the roads, go to public schools, and take part in the same things everyone else does, you should be obligated to pay some kind of tax. The corruption is gonna come within even if the government stays uninvolved.

I've seen the good and the bad the tribes have brought to the reservations. To me it's a lot like the oil companies in the middle east, you can't build a country off oil and you can't build a good community off of casinos. Great communities are what the indians had before the white man came. Good communities are those in which people have to work and care for their families and neighbors. We destroyed the indian community, but they have still held onto their culture. Now the casinos are bringing significant amounts of money into the reservation. In the natural style of our government, it wants a piece of the pie too. No matter the outcome of the government trying to step in, the tribes need good leaders to step foward and build up their communities and show us the richness of their traditions.

You obviously haven't seen what every single tribal leader drives, so I wouldn't make comments like the ones you've made, the tribe I come from is one of the few that doesn't own a casino, we have a good, honest hard working tribal leader. I live off the reservation work hard & make an honest living, my children go to public schools. I'm angered and offended by people like you who make these types of comments, especially when they haven't been to & visited every reservation.

Apparently someone has forgotten who is living on whose land, who is taking what from who. Perhaps you would like the obligation of paying the Native American community for the "right" to even exist on what USE to be THEIR land - until our past generations decided they had some insane "right" to step in and take it away from them - despite the fact that they were here FIRST. Get a grip. Go back to elementary school and take your history class over again, evidently you didn't learn much. You're just pissed off that you can't touch their money and because they are protected (at least to some degree) from you.

For the record - I am 1/8 Native American and in moments like, facing attitudes like this - I am rather ashamed that I have to admit to being even partially white.

Most natives do pay taxes just because we live on the reservation don't mean we don't. People like you are either stupid or just plain dumb.I myself have been employed since i was 16 years old and paid taxes since.I drive around in a nice car have a nice home that i pay taxes on every year just like you because i work hard all my life.My kids go to a public school and i'm proud that there learning.you should go back to school and learn your history. F Nothing in this world of ours is free your people broke too many treaties and yet you complain that we get all this stuff for free. you must be joking.

My comments were geared toward the South Dakota Casinos by the way. I don't have a sufficient amount of knowledge of the others state casinos to say anything about them. My whole point is that they need trusting leaders in order for it to work and until that happens they need assistance from the state government to keep the books in check.

So far as I know, working IN the casino's and for the tribe, I seem to be sending part of my check to the great white father. For the ignorant readers here, not all tribes have casinos as successful as Mystic Lake or Foxwoods. Noone seems to look at the good the casinos do for EVERYONE in the region. When I walk into Dakota Magic Casino, I am pretty sure I see at least 50% of the workers are NOT native americans, and the communities surrounding the tribe have also benefited from these "incompetently ran" casinos. The casinos generate thousands of dollars for the local indian/white busineses through their wages and purchases. So indian, white, pakistani or whatnot, look into how sufficient your knowledge is, and think about what you are talking about before opening your mouth or computer screens. Being Ignorant is not your fault, choosing to stay that way is!!
The State of SD, if you look back, has always made sure that Tribes stay the way they are. One of the most reelected governors of this state was called "The Indian Fighter". The thought of Tribes being self sufficient is unthinkable for them. This is the mentality of the old south and Conroe TX, directed at the red man. Hopefully, some day the government will have the courage to honor their treaties and responsiblities to tribes, but untill then, we fight for what little we have.

Im not being ignorant on this. Its just the truth. Like it or not. Of course the SD tribes are not going to make out as good as the Mystic Lake Casino. They barely have any members so their profits are huge. Thats simple numbers. I remember growing up in SD and always hearing about the ongoing investigations on how the casino money was coming up short all the time, and how certain member were suspect for embezzling.I think the Lode Star was just the last one I heard about.Your gonna tell me thats not a problem. I didn't say the casino didn't help the community. Thats pretty obvious, The whole point of the agenda is to clean up the corrupt leaders and make the income that is being squandered available to everyone. Think about what your saying before speaking your mind.

Again you are generalizing, what does your hearsay about one tribe have to do with ALL of the casinos in SD? Doesn't seem to me that you really lived on a reservation. But like I said before, according to treaties, it is noone's business but the tribe's. Sovereign Nation...Look it up.

I am half sioux. I know my tribe owns three casinos. I have lived the better part of my life in California and currently live very close to a small tribe that has a very large casino that brings them large per capita payments. My tribe lives in poverty even with the casinos and I cringe when I see this California tribe driving around Lexus and Caddillac escalades and such. I wish to see that these tribes that are making good profits to share with other tribes that are barely making it. I know that will never happen, but it would be nice if these tribes could help other tribes.
