The city is now proposing that Veolia trash service should be the only trash service picking up in Junction City, forcing John Mallon, Howies and Blixt out of town. The only reason for this is to be able to get rid of all the other businesses so Veolia can raise their prices and the citizens in JC will not have an option to change service. Please do what you can to stop this from happening and support your right to have choices and keep the local, private business owners in business!!

That's exactly what the city is planning. I don't see this happening. It would be a real difficulty for small businesses, which is precisely the wrong direction in the current economy.
Vernon loses points for even suggesting it.

Might have been Vernons voice, but this is another Scooter J. plan.

Tell your commissioners how you feel about this suggestion, the proposed furloughs and the utility rate increases.

This exactly what propsed by the city to be voted on Tues. Don't let this happen. Our services have suffered greatly since Veiolia took over the streets, sewer and sanitation and it's time to put a stop to it. With current financial situation of the city they should kick Veiolia to the curb and take over the services so when someone calls about limbs or street problems someone will actually show up and take care of the problem in timely manner. We could save a couple hundred thousand dollars instead of lining the pockets of a company that lost money last year. As soon as they they reach the base contract requirements they charge for everything over and above contract and they charge dearly. Say no to this monoply and tell your commissioners that this is the same mistake they made years ago with the hiring of Veiolia and we have been paying thru the nose and gotten less and less for our money each year.

I agree 100%. I just sent off my e-mail. It is against the law to monopolize companies.
They kept extending and realigning Vieola's contract so it doesn't end for another 12 years. Bull! Get them out now.

If memory serves correctly, the Veolia contract was a NO-BID contract and ought to be renegotiated to benefit the customer.

The city should and must stay out of private enterprise, let there be competition and may the best service provider reap the most customers.

In fact the poor service provided by Veolia, as evidenced throughout the city, should give an indication where Veolia will be given the cost factor and service levels of their competition.

Once the city commission is permitted to limit what trash service will be available to the residents, what is next?

What other services are they going to limit for the benefit of just one company? This is undermining free enterprise and reminiscent of the way communism operates.

Shame on you commissioners if you allow this to happen.

Let's see - the city operates a trash service so we are going to prohibit anyone else from participating in competition with that service. So let's take that analogy a step further:
Since we operate a skating rink, noone else can own or operate one in the city.
Since we jointly operated "JC Scoop" (with the school district )an ice cream store, everyone else that has an ice cream store must close their business (sorry mr. heldstab)
Since the city operates a gold course, there can be no others in the city.
Since the city shows movies in the park, all movie theaters must close.
Now let's be for real.
The real answer to this problem is for the city to NOT be in the trash business at all. End of subject.

Everyone please try and stop this from happening....we need to keep and support our local small business owners like Mallon trash service!!! It's just like a couple years ago when Mick Wunder wanted to turn over the trash service to Waste Management and knock out JC sanitation and Geary Waste so WM could eventually take over and raise prices the same way. Just say hell no!!!

If anything, it's time to open the bidding for all these city services. Some competition is in order to save citizens money.
Vernon has dropped pretty far, in my estimation, for even suggesting this. Veolia has a well earned reputation for playing dirty to achieve their goals. Vernon would do well to distance himself from monopolies, perceived or otherwise. A great way to show an independence from past city administrations would be to lose one of the outstanding examples of official misconduct. That can be done by putting Veoilia's head on the chopping block. Compete or lose.

The City should be open enough to show the taxpayers the contract between Veolia and the City. Show what's in the contract- 1. What is Veolia required to do? 2. What are the financial terms? 3. How long is it the contract valid for? 4. What provisions are there for non-compliance with the contract on Veolia's part? 5. What are the 'catch-all' clauses, should Veolia had forgotten about charging more for having to 'do more', if there are any? 6. Is there a clause for the city to renegotiate the contract with Veolia? Not an all inclusive list.. Anyone else want to add more?

If the 'customers were satisfied' there wouldn't be other competition in town.

Why is it John Mallon can pick up my trash cheaper and does a better job than Veolia did? I do not have to bring my trash can out front every week either!!!

this is only the start. the whole thing is a mess and those who caused it walked away. things are only going to get worse. Two hundred million dollars in debt and less than 20,000 taxpayers to pay it.

To concerned citizen.....John Mallon provides better service because he is a small business owner. The number he gives out is his personal cell phone number! He is just starting up his business and really cares about his customers, going above and beyond...even on weekends or holidays! Show me when veolia has done that? John worked for many years for JC sanitation and knows his customers and their needs. Thats why he has taken so many of waste management's customers after JC sanitation was gone. Big companies don't care about customer's little problems (ex: taking your trash can to the curb, especially if your disabled) So please keep your local SMALL businesses so you always have an option based upon SERVICE!!! I don't live in JC limits so this wouldn't even apply to me, however I do honestly care!
