According to the DU, the DVB, Business Group plans to try to attract AARP members to JC by mailing 1200 mailings to the retirees in LasVegas encouraging them to come life a "slower pace of life" in Junction City. The cost of mailing out these 1200 packets will be $5,940. Do you think this is money well spent or a waste of time and money?

Mailing to people across America, not Las Vegas. Mailing information on living, visiting, and doing business in Junction City and Geary County. Cost will be shared by many groups and organizations. Just one effort of many to help grow the economics of the area. If you have suggestions for economic growth, stop by the next city or county commission meeting, chamber of commerce, economic development commission, convention and visitors bureau or miltary affairs council and let them hear about it.

Here's a way to attract all kinds of folks- the lowest property and sales taxes in Kansas. Want to drive away people, especially retirees? Some of the highest sales and property taxes in Kansas. Guess where JC falls?

This makes a big differences when you are retired

I can only imagine the prospective sales pitches: . "Junction City, where only 20% of our city commissioners are convicted felons." . "Tired of having to choose where to buy groceries? Come to Junction City! There are only TWO!" . "Tired of low taxes and big amenities? Come to Junction City!" . "Junction City, Kansas! Moving backwards through time! Except where debt and taxes are concerned!" . "Welcome to Junction City, Kansas! Hope you brought us some money!" . "Night Life / Fine Dining / Great Shopping / Great Year Round Weather / Honest Government / Commissioners that Care / Low City Debt / Low Taxes...OR you can come to Junction City!" . "Welcome to Junction City! Now gimmie your wallet and bend over!" . HAHAHAHAHAHA! Holy crap! What a waste of money and time.

This all sounds like fishing with Hundred dollar worms. The one thing that is for sure, we are going to spend money. Other than that, at THIS time I can't imagine ANYONE CHOOSING to come to Junction City. High Taxes...Poor Amenities...Criminal Government...Crooked City Manager...Police Chief Bailed Out...Population without a voice...Insipid Newspaper...BS Local Radio...No Local Television...No Shopping...Poor restaurants...LOTS and LOTS of EMPTY LOTS...Streets to Nowhere... I would SURE like to see one of these "Mailers" posted up and see how in the HELL they painted a pretty picture of this cow-pie.

Bwa-ha-ha and What a Load. Will you be selling any property when you move? You both are moving? I'm looking to buy. Hope you find the perfect city when you move. Is it possible you both can show up at the next city commission meeting and say your final goodbyes. Must be terrible to live in a community you dislike so much. Best of luck.

Gee, if we could only get all these commenters from topix to run the city, First there would be no taxes at all, Second, there would be 5... make that 15 grocery stores,Third, there would be a Red Lobster on every corner, etc, etc, blah blah, blah. The people that complain that no one wants to come to JC just so happen to be the very ones that piss and moan the most about the state of the city and contribute the least to it's success. Hey, can you cry a little louder? The rest of the country still can't hear you. If I had as much hatred, disgust and contempt for where I live as all you people, I would sell my home, even at a loss, and move. But NO, you all don't want to do that do you? You WANT to stay here so you CAN complain about everything you WON'T change. The only positive thing is that the pissers and moaners are the minority.

with the new PX-commisary and hospital at ft riley we should concentrate on attracting military retirees. They have a guaranteed retirement check every month and have had million dollar training and education which are a workforce value. It is the cleanest industry we can recruit.

We need to quit complaining about Ft Riley and the soldiers and attempt to exploit what could be a huge source of revenue.

bigger and better bars, clubs, gambling, concerts and other entertainment. Lets face it and embrace it. GI's like to party. Older people spend what's in thier budget. Young people spend until they are broke. If they don't spend it here they will some where else. Just a thought.

YOU folks have done such a damned bang-up job. Folks like you have taken away everything good about this city and left us with $200 Million in debt, 2 grocery stores and a criminal group of commissioners. We'll keep on complaining...you just sit there, shut your mouth, keep doing the SUPER job you are doing and take it.

You are a prime example of the typical uneducated hillbilly that thinks JC is the center of the universe and no one else outside our boundaries has any problem whatsoever. Gee, if we only had three more grocery stores, that would fix all our problems! And you are calling ME the dumbass? You need to go take a good look at a mirror sometime Mr Minority. The city manager's position is open. Have YOU applied? Naw, I didn't think so. It's always easier to write condemming posts on topix than it is to actually get up and do something. Status quo.
