Thank goodness! There are so many deer out there that they are playing bumper pool with a lot of vehicles. Had brothers car hit by not one but three one day as they ran into the "side" of his car. I think they needed glasses! Any way the population has really increased lately over and above the normal sustained number that can survive a hard winter. For some folks hard pressed in this economy it could put meat on the table. Good deal for all. Just must add hope that all are safe out there and watch the background to avoid property or people damage. Happy Hunting.

This should be done on the OBX. The deer population is not healthy because they have a poor food source and there are no natural predators.

I don't need a season for feral cats. I have a slingshot and a bag of marbles.

Okay; combine 3 drunks, one on coke (come on, read the papers, it's all very prevalent and documented some of the scum that inhibit this area); add guns. Allow above to CARRY guns and say they are hunting. Again allow said above (which may or may not have licenses, gun permits, etc) to SHOOT said guns in a highly populated area. Hmmmmmm... I'm not seeing much positive outta this scenario... not even for the deer, much less the humans that choose to keep to themselves in a supposed peaceful environment.

And yes, I DID read the article stating <bowhunting on your own land, away from roads>, but some interpret the gvmt giving an inch as their right to take a mile, and then they screw it up for EVERYONE...

Regardless of one's position regarding the policy of permitting hunting in these urban areas, it should appear obvious to most that another (maybe complimentary) practice may provide a more proactive solution: Educating the well-intended but ultimately tragically-naive people that buy and set out deer corn to attract living ornaments for their supposed residential sanctuaries. These spring through summer feedings obviously lead to corresponding increases in reproduction. This, in turn, leads to many starving young (now conditioned to be less-adept foragers) in the late fall and winter. Or worse, hunger-induced aggression and recklessness, added to diminishing natural habitat concerns, serve to make more numerous the deer that act as lethal road hazards (to themselves and others). The deer are pretty to view in these oft-manicured urban landscapes; until they end up riding shotgun in your $500-a-month loan on wheels, that is.
