It is going to cost you $105 to go to the Story Telling Festival. Be advised that Jonesboro is a speed trap and they have the traffic scammeras up in force. The admission price does not include the $100 fine that you will pay if you bumper crosses the white line.

Beware. I suggest you spend you money elsewhere.

Hey Mikef - just stop the rest of your car even though your bumper is across the white line (but remember the cameras don't ticket you unless you start across that white line AFTER the light turns red) and you will save $100.00 - and maybe a life or two while you are at it.

I've sat in Court and watched moron after moron stand there and look at the video screen as they blow through the red light (some crossing the line as much as 10 seconds after the light turned red - count that out and see just how long that is)or turn right without stopping on red and then look the the judge with a stupid grin and expect to be let out of the ticket. Give me a break!

You might have a little credibility if you didn't tell such flat out lies on here trying to make your case.

here's some facts for you.

Red-Light Camera Information
10 Reasons To Oppose Red-Light Cameras
1) Ticket cameras do not improve safety.
Despite the claims of companies that sell ticket cameras and provide related services, there is no independent verification that photo enforcement devices improve highway safety, reduce overall accidents, or improve traffic flow. Believing the claims of companies that sell photo enforcement equipment or municipalities that use this equipment is like believing any commercial produced by a company that is trying to sell you something.

Once again, you open you mouth without checking out the facts. Just because some internet article says it - doesn't make it true Mikey. Go ask for the records on accidents at the intersections in Town and you'll find out the truth here. People are generally safer because of these cameras. Be sure and look at the entire picture - rates of speed for accidents etc. Don't just find one number that supports your side of things and spin it to be the entire story.

since you apparently have access to all of the "right" facts why don't you post some instead of slamming everyone for making a post. I drive responsibly, i don't agree with red light cameras, i vote, and i decide where i spend my money. My family and i, which in years past went to the Story Telling Festival went to the Apple Festival this year. I do not support Jonesboro businesses.

I'm not the one citing all these bogus facts and statistics without looking into them. You need to check out your own stuff, it's not my job buddy. I just spend a few minutes and usually find out yours are made up out of thin air.

Good luck with the one man boycott there. The stories about last minute reunion cancellations are great though. I'm sure some people believe that garbage just like the make believe stats.

i checked the minutes for the town of Jonesboro back to January. The June 8 minute had a Mr Moore who was asking about the light timing and Mr Ford said he had had no complaints about the timing. I will add that i did, just to check, stop where i could view the lights and they are set at what seems like 4 minutes.(johnson city's are 3). 4 minutes seem plenty long enough time to stop.

The answer to these red light issues can be addressed with engineering. If you lengthen the light you have more time to stop - it makes sense.

I would just like the cities that use them state that the cameras are for revenue. They do not reduce accidents (sides down, rear ends up) and property damage is a wash depending on the city you look at.

I will say that Jonesboro has a great web site, much better than Johnson City's.

My one man (right) boycott was greatly helped by the list of town businesses on the site

http://www.jonesboroughtn.org/index.cgi...

Everyone interested should check it out it has phone number and email addresses.

I will not change by beliefs and i will not change my mind when it come time to vote. I am so tired of our city and congressional leaders ignoring us. They start at little things like traffic cameras and before you know it we have lost all of our freedoms.

I wanted to go to the storytelling but saw that the parking was $10.00, so I keep riding. The GREED in that town is unbelievable. To hell with them.

No one asked any of you people to come in the first place. It's not our fault you can't afford the costs of having a day out. Besides, there was plenty of free parking within walking distance of the festival, it's not our fault if you're too lazy to walk a block or two. Do Jonesborough a favor and just stay away and never ever pass through our little town again.... We won't miss you one bit.

Have a nice day :)

And this should alarm me or anyone else because?

I see no obscene language, no insulting, and no flaming.
It's my opinion and I have every right to it and to post it on a discussion board if I so choose just like the rest of these folks pissin and moanin about things. Again, if you don't like the price of things or the traffic cameras and are too lazy to walk a block or two then do the town a favor and stay away, the last thing we need are people who don't like the town coming to it and bitching about everything and ruining it for the folks who do enjoy it. If this upsets you then that's just too damn bad I guess.

Have a nice day sour puss :P

Actually it's a very friendly place with nice little olde town shops and a few good places to eat and some historic things to check out.

Think of it this way.... If I showed up at your house and immediately started complaining to you about the way you keep your home, how far I had to walk to get to the door, how much I think your home should be worth, and bitched about having to stop for red lights and watch my speed while driving in your community I doubt very much if I would be very welcome in your home for long and any normal person would ask me to leave and not come back.
This is our town and while here you're a guest, if you don't like it go somewhere else and take your complaints with you, if it's a place you enjoy then come on down and have a great time.
You can't please everyone.

A speed trap? What the hell is a speed trap?
You think we get some sort of sign that says speed limit 70mph that mysteriously changes to say speed limit 30mph when the cop stops you?

We have no "speed traps" the speed limits are clearly posted and there are even signs that tell you we have red light cameras in operation as you're approaching intersections that use them. Just obey the posted limits, drive with a little common sense and you'll be fine. If you can't do that simple thing then perhaps you're right, you shouldn't come here.
