I'm hearing more editorial staff is going to be layed off. Too bad. That's why people buy the paper, to read what local reporters write. But, I know it's hard now, plus, the owner, Paxton, has a aircraft-carrier-size-boat-loa d of debt. So, obviously, their whole "thing" has to be making the most money for the least service, product cost. Eventually, though, that'll bite because the subscribers/advertisers will quit. I hope the layoffs are gossip, and not true, and I wish the Sun well. It's an important part of our community.

Aw, if I was guessin',I'd say 'guest' would probably be the former managing editor, Mr. Fugate, since he left town & went to Pine Bluff.

They are true. It was a hard place to be when the Troutt's owned it but nothing like under Paxton. You reap what you sow is the best cliche I can think of.

Seems like Mr Wessell, new editor is responsible. Is "chris Wessell" a "nam de plume'"?

All of the people who laid out the paper were laid off. The paper will now be put together at Paducah, Kentucky where the Paxton headquarters are located. The Sun still has local writers, but the way the paper looks and the decision as to what stories appear on what page will now be made by heads in Kentucky. In all I believe about 7 people were laid, including the community editor and the assistant sports editor who each had worked for over 20 years at the paper.

I am not Stan, whoever that is, and I have never worked for The Sun. I'm just stating what I heard. Sadly, lots of papers are laying off. There are companies, Paxton included, who bought papers, incurred a big debt load they still have, then the bottom began to drop out. These companies always aimed for huge profit margins, but now, they have to cut, cut, cut, to keep up the owners, and pay the debt. But, it can be a slippery slope if the content suffers because that's all they have to sell.

The Sun laid off Myra Burhmeister who was there a long, long time. Tony Manley in sports also got laid off as did Maarten Bels who was one of the people who put the stories on the page. Joe Schratz, who was an editor, also was laid off. This isn't the first time the Sun has laid people off. They laid four people off in 2008 including a couple of writers.
The Sun is laying off the wrong people. They need to send David Mosesso packing. Roy Okert FINALLY retired. He was a miserable son of a bitch. Their managing editor Maria is a flak too. The Sun has a lot of good writers. They do a good job with the news. The problem is they keep raising their price. People are naturally dropping their subscriptions. It's a shame. I like the new look. But Paxton has pretty much destroyed the place. Morale is low on the inside. This new guy, Chris Wessel (or is it weasel?) is a real jerk to work for.
