Maybe im wrong, and im sure a lot of people who are either guilty of this, or know someone who is, will ride my butt mercilessly after I say this, but I see a HUGE problem here. I think its pretty crappy when im at Kroger, Wal mart, or wherever, and the mom reaches into her designer bag, whether it be Coach, Gucci, or Prada, for her FOOD STAMPS and WIC vouchers. If you can claim on a public assistance form that you dont make enough to buy food, you have NO RIGHT to be carrying around a bag that costs anywhere from 100-500 dollars. Whats worse is seeing these people wearing designer clothes at the same time. Just because you work under the table for cash doesnt mean that you are telling the truth when you say you make nothing!!!! I have to pay state taxes every paycheck, and that is where the money for food stamps and WIC comes from. If I could hold onto my state taxes for even a few paychecks, I might be able to buy a Coach purse, but I cant do that, so I hope you are enjoying yours!!!!! The other day at Wal mart, a man sat and argued with the cashier for ten minutes while I waited in line behind him trying to buy one thing with my hard earned cash. He was upset that they wouldnt price match something another store was giving away. 4 12 packs of soda and the fifth one free for 12 dollars or something like that. The girl told him they can price match it, but NOT give him the free case. After he grumbled about it for a few seconds, she then told him his CASH total AFTER his food stamps was 35 dollars, since he bought non food items. Some more grumbling, and he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a WAD of 100 dollar bills. Does nobody else see anything wrong with this crap?!?!!?

An authenic Prada or Gucci bag starts at around $700. A bag the size you are probably seeing starts at $1500. These ladies are carrying knockoffs which probably cost less than $50.

I don't get food stamps but I would if I had to for my children to eat. However, I do have a couple of high dollar purses that I would be carrying my card in if I was receiving assistance. Dont judge someone until you know. My brother sends me one every year for Christmas. I could never afford them.

I'm with you Curious. It ticks me off big time when these people that get the free ride seem to be living better than me. And on my buck. I've seem people at the pharmacy gripe about having to pay a dollar for their prescription! Now how's that for being ungrateful? There needs to be a huge, total overhaul of the medicaid system and all of this abuse needs to be addresses. These free loaders need their butts taken off of the list and forced to pull their own weight. I'd like to know when it became the government's job to support people who decide they don't want to support themselves.

Ever think of that? Probably not. That what's wrong with too many people nowadays. Too willing to take before giving up something.

Being in business I see this stuff all the time. They come through my door wanting to buy stuff driving a new car and looking like a million dollars while I am working my butt off. Makes me see red. There's just as many whites doing the same thing as the black folks so don't think this is twards anyone personally. Next time you are in the grocery store about the first to the tenth look at the piled high carts, types of food and how they pull out the food stamp card and pay for all of this. You see many older people stuggling to buy their foods and meds. and the biggest part of them don't have food stamps or medicade. Why because they can't get it. While these younger people won't work and have all these kids and we are paying for all of them. It makes me see RED also.

You guys are crazy.. Just because someone carries a Gucci purse or whatever else high dollar things doesnt mean they spent 700 dollars on it.. There are things called consignment stores where you can get things cheap.. And if they want to spend money on crap like that then I see nothing wrong with it.. Who says their family isnt taken care of? You can have a job and still get food stamps.. Not everyone gets the maximum amount of food stamps.. I mean what the heck? You post this crazy stuff before you even think.. If someone was sent a purse for christmas or for their birthday I dont see why people think someone ought to sell it just because someone gets food stamps.. Maybe they make money too.. And gets a little help from the goverment.. Geez.. Get a life..

You do realize that "the government" isn't some magical place where money grows on trees, right?

Nice try at a counter example, but you know just as well as we all do that it happens the same way I said it does, and its total BS!!!

the purse is as fake as the hair on their head---stop fretting---there are probably very few real gucci or prada purses in j'bor---yes you can buy coach at dillards, but there are lots of places that sell fake purses. And, just because you collect food stamps doesn't mean that you have to look like what the public perceives a "welfare recipient" should look like. Get off of your high horse.

I see a lot of fake Coach purses and I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about someone who complains about paying a dollar for a prescription for their child's antibiotic. Or their blood pressure medicine. What more can the gonvernment do those people? I get up at 5:15 in the morning to go to work while there are those who sleep til noon and never work. I have to pay for my doctor visits and medicines while some pay almost nothing. And they do it with MY tax money!!! I try to keep myself healthy while they do everything they can to ruin their health, as in smoking, drinking, getting fat, and not exercising. Who is getting shafted here? And someone wants ME to donate money at Christmas to poor families? Heck, the people who receive that money are the same people who know who to "work the system" and no, I won't donate anymore of my hard earned dollars to them. I have people that I personally know that receive my charity. Not these habitual bums.

I get as mad as the next person about people getting public assistance when they have the ability to work. Some of these people sleep all day and finally get up when their kids get home from school, if they even get up then. It's the kids that suffer. And so, I will donate to these kids. They can't help that they live in this situation. They are the ones that suffer.

I was at Wal Mart a few days ago, behind a couple with a baby and a humongous cart full of groceries and 'junk food'. They paid with their vouchers and card and left. I checked out and coincidentally they were parked right beside me, still loading up their loot. They were driving a brand NEW Lincoln four door truck. It wasn't a knock off either!!! There are slugs like this in every color........but these happened to be non English speaking, if you know what I mean. Yah, it makes me furious, but then I realize that there is nothing that I can do about it. Keep getting up every day and go to work to feed them, house them and so they can have health care without any worries. If I didn't always have to be worrying and juggling and doing without sometimes, it wouldn't bother me so bad.

In fact, my husband and I both work two jobs and we have five kids. If I needed to feed my children though, trust there would be nothing that would keep me from putting their welfare first! There isn't anything materialistic that would be put above my children. I do think they should do the system different though. Cutting out junkfood, steaks, sodas, cakes and deli foods and adding toothpaste, laundry soap and dish liquid to add a few.

If you donate for the holidays to help the children, you need to make sure that you find a way to send a gift that the drug using parent can't return for a refund. I've seen that after the holidays and wanted to scream. People donate new, unopened gifts and that is just the same as giving them cash. If they can't get a full cash refund, they return it to get cigarettes. You need to mark it in big bold letters, Donated from a loving family, do not return for cash!

No. I read it correctly. I didn't say you WERE on welfare. I said that if you are ever in the position to receive it maybe you should think about selling those 'high dollar' purses of your first before sticking your hand out. And what ever happened to 'what ever I have to do' being getting a second job?!?
