I think it will. Hope they don't pay the congressmen for the shutdown time if it does. But they probably will.

I wish they would too. I would love it if the welfare people didn't get their checks for awhile and decided that they better go get their arse a job. =)

Military mom Emily O'Donnell has a solution for the government to avoid a shutdown: "Go to your room and do not come out until your job is done."
The 27-year-old mother of four is "furious" that parts of the federal government could shut down tomorrow if Congress cannot agree on a budget. If that happens, paychecks for military workers could be delayed indefinitely. Troops are guaranteed back-pay, but not knowing when they'll receive a check could put some military families in financial crisis.

This will only affect hard working Americans. Welfare leeches will just go get free food at the food bank. Their free housing won't be affected and neither will any other benefits that don't come in check form. Meanwhile my great uncle who is 88 and on a fixed income and retired from the Navy won't get his check- that he totally deserves. HE doesn't get it for being "crazy", or "disabled" or just plain stupid. Same for my friends who are active military and have families to provide for.

Yep, I had several elderly patients today that were very stresses out thinking that they won't get their check.

I had a 17 year old that was with her 40 year old welfare mom.....they were talking about it and the 17 year old told me that she hoped they don't cut disability out until after she gets it, that her doctor has already told her that she has a psychiatric disorder, that she will not be able to work, because she can't control her temper and would kill someone if she worked.:/
I've known this girl and her mother for years, she's not psycho, she's ate up with laziness.

So much for confidentiality. A psychiatric disorder does not mean "psycho." Who knows what the diagnosis is? I guess the psychiatrist who did the professional evaluation does.

I would love to see those sorry SOB's on the hill go with out a paycheck. Lord knows if we all worked as well as they pretend to we would be fired. It just pisses me off to no end knowing that brave men and women are risking their lives so those sorry so and so's can use them as pawns in their twisted game. So SICK of the crap. Call, email, write a letter to your congress people and the president to let them know just how sick and pissed we are. I did. I doubt if it will do a bit of good but it sure felt nice knowing they know how this voter and tax payer feels.

Unfortunately they're not the only ones that will be directly effected by this. My husband is a warrent officer in the Guard. He's an Iraqi vet and now an instructor at the largest flight school in the country. His superior informed him yesterday that his job could be in jeopardy. If he's furloughd, he'll hopefully receive back pay for the work he had to miss but I say if there is no job security for our men and women in the military (especially our veterans) then this is EVERYONES problem. Not just military families and welfare recipients.

I am so sorry. There should never be a time in this country when the men and women of our military should be worried about job security! Vets should not be worried about getting there military pension. This is disgraceful!

A budget deal will be reached. No shut down. What does that do to all the racist theories here?

Back to the original thread, I think it is hilarious they said, "only essential government employees will be kept on if there is government shutdown." HILARIOUS. I guess if you don't get a check then you weren't essential to keeping the government running anyhow. I should try this with my company. "Ok, only essential employees will be getting paid this week!" HAHAHAHA

I say we should only have "essential government employees" working until we get the budget balanced and begin to pay down the enormous national debt.

We simply can no longer afford non-essential functions of government.

When you can't balance your home budget, what do you do? You stop buying the non-essential things. We must do the same thing in government.

This is just some sort of scare tactic to take eyes off of the pork barrel projects that they will try to slip in under the table. Don't be fooled. Don't get tunnel vision. Keep your eyes on the big picture!

I think if they would drugtest alot of these b*tchs that get foodstamps and welfar, we would save alot of money. I mean even if we have to invest in new equipment to run peoples' ss# and address's and could round them all up together in a nation wide system, we would save BILLIONS!!! I mean come on!!

Example: Amber has 4 kids, she doesn't work, doesnt pay into the system. She gets $700 a month in foodstamps(which she trades for dope!) and she lives rent free.(What she didnt tell foodstamp office is that she lives with her kids father, who works at a factory and makes $600 a week. But on his tax's he claims that he alone has the kids(even though its reported that he doesnt live with them so she can get her benifits) and lives with them at her address. So he decides to claim the kids on his tax's and gets back an extra $7000 when all year long the money that she is getting from the kids $8400 just in foodstamps!! We are paying out more money then what we should!!

I wonder why no one has thought to cross check these people who get food stamps/welfare with the tax claims. That would change a lot. It seems like, in today's computer age, it wouldn't be that hard to see that Suzie has the kids claimed on her food stamps, but Bob claims them at tax time.

If this is true report it as welfare fraud. Also, that squiggly red line means you misspelled the word. Too bad they don't have grammar check.
