Class action law suit against liberty bank for unlawfully charging debit card users. Appears someone finally got enough of how they are over drafting charging for pending debit card uses. This is said to cost liberty $2000 a person that joins the class action. Wow wonder how many thousands this will cost the greedy big shots.

I called them (liberty bank) several months back and warned them what they were doing was wrong. There should never be a fee associated w a debit card if you didnt "opt in". The money is either there or not

Liberty did this to me at Christmas. They held 32 transaction and charged me. I got some back but still was out 200 bucks. They have done this several times. I'm in the suit.

The settlement will be $325,000.00. The lawyers get $108,550.00. The originator of the lawsuit gets $2,000.00 extra. The other 11,215 parties to the suit split the rest. That comes to about $19.30 per person.

If each person was charged $100.00 in fees, then the bank charged $1,121,500.00. That's a net gain of $796,500.00 for the bank.

They have got me for over a $1000.00 over a course of a year. This all started when I refused to "opt in".

The only people who made money on this deal was the lawyers and Liberty bank. Class action lawsuits are hardly ever good for the common man, because they huge banks and companies know we are not gonna sue individually because most do not have the money for that. Lawyers always get 33% on the total and whatever "fees and expenses" they include which is a rip off. Liberty bank has charged me twice for the overdraft, when it wasnt overdrafted and was their and their computers mistakes. If you call the checking dept, all you get is it was your fault and I can not do anything. You have to call and talk to someone over the checking who knows what is going on. What is sad, is the people who just sit back take it and do nothing, letting the bank rip them off. Then the bank pays only a small penalty after collecting a huge profit. That is what is wrong with the world today. What is to stop them from keep doing this practice?

You have to call a settlement company in Rhode Island and good luck with getting any info out of them. I had a question about filling out the claim form and called the 1-800 help number to that company. What I got, was lets say, what I expected. I got a woman that spoke broken english sounded like she was reading off a prescripted paper. I asked her several questions and she read me the same answer. I finally gave up and filled out the form the way I thought it should be filled out. They sent me a form yesterday saying I filled it out incorrectly and should resubmit the corrected form by July if I wanted to be included in the lawsuit. Well I filled the form out like the paper said and they sent it back. I called the "help line" and got no help. Good luck everyone with getting any money out of this. My guess, the lawyers have made it hard to file a claim on purpose to get a bigger chunk of the money. I might be wrong but something tells me I am not.
