lets say im a 19 year old KID, legally an adult but still mentally a child. im driving a car but i dont have drivers license dumb and careless but no uncommon, i get pulled over, not wearing a seat belt and no insurance, the cop seems leanient, he rights me some ticket and citates me to court. ok i go to court i get senteced by blackman to 3 days jail, 40 hours public service, and after court costs and restitution a big fine wich im put on a payment plan of 25 a week, oh and also required to attened a driving class. ok so i go to do my public service and they send me away and tell me not to return unless i have 50 dollars and the class tell me i need 80 so now im broke as it is i need 130 dollars plus 25 a week or i wont be able to do my service, so lets say in reality since money dont fall off trees i dont find the money, a warrent is issued for my arrest, what can i do? im leaving work one day i get pulled over, cop runs my name and takes me in, next morning i go to court from jail blackman increases my public service adds more fines and court costs and this time its 5 days jail 150 pay before release wich i dont have so i have to sit that out so im looking at 10 days in jail, i get out, no job no money, but now even more fines and service. lets say it takes a few months but i find another minimum wage paying job, but its already too late i already have warrents but i manage to lay low for a while but then one day it happens, blue lights cops run my name back to jail i go, this time 25 days in jail more fines more cost, i get out and once again no job, no money, my rent didnt get paid so now im homeless, now what? im still in the system i'll never be out what do you do now? sounds like enough to make you wanna shoot yourself the next time youre in the back of a police car because its hopeless, the system has ruined so many lives and they wont let us out we try but they knock us back down and they treat us like we did something bad when in jai. if you havent been through it you dont know how it is. guess you were born into money or into some kind of privlaged people who dont get screwd by the system like us common man>
You are f*cking idiot. Be a man and admit you done wrong and get a f*cking life instead of blaming everyone else. GET A JOB,PAY YOUR FINES, AND QUIT BREAKING THE LAW! That isn't such a hard thing to do. Don't blame the police because you broke the law and got caught so many times that your fines have snowballed into what they are now. ITS YOUR OWN FAULT! D*mn why are people so stupid!

Bottom line is that if he hadn't been out trying to sell drugs and carrying around a stolen gun he would still be alive. How hard is that to admit or understand?

It says they put him in the car, found out he had warrants and THEN took him back out and handcuffed him... He could've very well hid the gun in the crease of the seat since they didn't find it. It wasn't a drive by bc why would there be a gun in the seat beside him. People do stupid stuff for stupid reasons. I knew someone who shot themselves over traffic tickets before bc they couldn't keep their fines paid. So it's not unlikely that he did it. Just wait till the whole story comes out before you jump to conclusions. Not all police officers are bad people.

Actually, welfare, disability and foodstamps (FS didn't begin at that time, but came from the ideas of free benefits) emerged from the Depression. The government created jobs, and handed out money to speed up the economy, mostly to elderly whites. As time went on, Blacks began applying and receiving. So, I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for FDR, and the Depression that they wouldn't get their benefits.

Are you saying that the back seat of a police car is not cushioned and doesn't have a crease where the back and the seat meet?

I believe the Freedmen's Bureau would predate FDR and the Depression. The Freedman's Bureau was established by the federal government to provide food, medical assistance, housing, education and legal assistance to blacks after the civil war.

you are right ray elliot thank you for agreeing with me on this. people take what im saying and twist it. i have not broke the law in quite a few years i just never have been able to get out from under the fines i did get when i was young and dumb, i come from a family who practically has nothing, and some people claim they have nothing but own their home and have two cars in the driveway no they arent poor they are just getting by and in debt, my family come from nothing. i grew up in low income and hud houses, raised by a single mother of 5 we were on food stamps, and yes we appreciate what the government did for us and we do not take advantage of that, but growing up like that it caused peers and teachers to look down on us and they did treat us differently than kids with both parents who got money. we grew up in rough neighborhoods, we had to deal with other kids in the hood as well as police and yes we did get into some minor trouble as childeren but nothing major, just petty stuff because we were just stupid kids and didnt know better. now i worked as a brick for my uncle as a brick layer since i was 16 and didnt get in trouble at all, we didnt make alot of money but we managed to pay the bills. my uncle died when i was 18 so i got a job at pizza in, i was 18 and i was not as responsable or smart as i should have been, i got pulled over and got some tickets, yeah i did some dumb things when i was a kid, i regret doing what i did, but i will never be free of it, never be able to get drivers liscens, and you be a 20 something year old man and try to explane to a girl why you cant take her out on a date becaus you dont have drivers licsens. no decent woman will be with a man who is trapped in this system and cant get free, we are theirs for life and we cant get out, we cant lead normal peacful lives because we belong to them, we are their income. but people just cant understand it until they themselves get stuck in it. we are begging pleading for our lives, i havent broke the law in years, i go to work and i come home and i keep a low profile, i dont even drink i dont do drugs. i feel that i have done enough time incarcerated and the 1000s of hours of free work for the city while locked up and all the 1000s of dollars i have paid to them and as long as i have gone without getting any new charges only non payment on the old ones i feel that i have paid my debt to society, i have grown up since i was 19.

im not the only person in this position, look sometimes young people make mistakes, some people learn from those mistakes and they change. someof us just want a normal, free life we just want to work and get by and have families and do the normal thing. but it feels like the system wont let us. it is sad but true that alot of cops do judge people by skin color or by what part of town he lives or by who he is related to. yes there are repeated offenders who will never straighten up, but not everyone is like that. and the reality is pot is not that bad of a drug, its everywhere noone will be able to stop it. its rediculious to destroy someones life over a plant that if u smoke it it makes u laugh and gives you the munchies. who does it hurt if a person wants to smoke a joint, we dont say anything about people drinking beer and thats more common than pot, they sell alcohol at every club and nearly every restaurant in jonesboro. its sad but true that all cops are not honest, and they are capable of doing bad things, its sad but true that this system is wack and it doesnt really work, its sad but true that alot of white people do look down on the black race and do judge all by the actions of a few. maybe we need to come up with a new system maybe some of these kids are just misguided and misunderstood, some of them dont know any other life, and some are just in the wrong place at the wrong time hanging with the wrong crowd. its heartless to say the terrible things ive read that people said about chavis and his family. i look at it like this he was just a misguided young man. idk if the cops shot him or he shot himself or what happened, i do pray for his family and wish the best for them, i do beleive that the matter should be looked into, it should be investigated and the system does need a change because it is suppressing the little man and the cold hard truth is corruption does exist here. there are people in the position of authority who have sinister intentions. im not saying they are all like that im just saying here in this part of arkansas its common.

Amen, brother! Most folks have no clue as to how lucky they really are. I would honestly help you out if I could, but unfortunatly, I too have nothing, but I thank God everyday that I have no record or run ins with the law because they sure gun for the poor. If I were to get put in the system even once, my life would be ruined. I would probably be knee deep in the system if I had cash to spend on a car, gas, insurance, etc. At least thats what I tell myself when I want & can't get. I will pray for you & send heady vibes your way.

One question.....if you abide by the law then how exactly did you get wrapped up in the system. Funny how people say they abide by the law, but find out that they don't think small crimes are laws(DWI,FTA,Nonpayment,no insurance, possession, theft). I am almost 40 and have only have 2 speeding tickets my whole life and NEVER been arrested. I don't steal, do drugs, sell drugs, or any other crime. This system you call getting wrapped up in,for instants, is when people get a $25 seat belt ticket, dont pay it or go to court, then it turns into a $500 FTA and suspends their drivers license. A simple $25 fine turns into $500 because the person is stupid and doesn't pay or thinks he is gonna stick to the man by not paying or going to court. Then they get into more trouble and don't pay their fines, once again because they think they are sticking it to the man, and before you know have $5000 or more in fines. This is ALL due to that person bringing it on himself/herself by not doing what they are supposed to due. Do not blame the court when YOU get in trouble!

Going shopping today? Then don't be surprised if you splash out on items that are that little bit different from your usual purchases. For instance, if you set off for the supermarket you might end up buying lots of exotic ingredients so you can experiment with them. This is unlikely to get out of hand unless you're feeling bored or fed up, in which case you'll want to spend your way out of your current mood.
