would you take your child to ACC? We are new to the area, but heard some bad stuff about them. Is there another competitive cheer in the area?

If you are looking for competitive cheer, they are good. BUT, you will spend a ton of money, your kids will train all the time, and the general atmosphere there is not exactly warm and fuzzy. My daughter went there for just tumbling lessons, but sitting in the "mommy room" with the competitive moms made me cringe weekly. I was glad when my daughter decided she didn't want to go on to the competitive cheer squad (even though they wanted her to because she had the "look"-what exactly does that mean???). Judge for yourself.

I would suggest Cheers Unlimited. I have been to both.

yes, I sit out there too and the stuff you hear....the lady that schedules or takes payments or whatever is really slow. She acts like it is her first job. The coaches stand among the parents and talk about other parents. Recently, they manually took money from bank accounts and then it drafted the next day. The parents were pissed. They just seem very unprofessional. If I wasn't already several thousand dollars in, we would move. I would suggest something else to you.

My daughter went to ACC many years, ending 1 yr ago because of her age. ALso attended CU before that. Bottom line is if your child wants to be the best they will ever be, ACC is the place to go. You are not paying for warm and fuzzy, but will get all the gossip, just stay clear of those kind of moms. Again, bottom line is they are the BEST, and you WONT be showing up to competitions and getting beat. TRUE competitors know where to go around here. You get what you pay for, and they are the Best in my opinion.

Jason is too hard on the kids. I would go to Curtis.

if you want your child to be great at tumbling, then take a class at CU. if you want your child to be a great cheerleader on a good squad, then go to ACC. Over the past 5 years, ACC has become a well known competitive cheer gym. CU has become an also ran. The "gossiping" of the cheer moms goes on at every cheer gym in the United States. If you want to avoid that, avoid cheerleading.

I find it funny as well, since I have watch more than one coach at CU put their team in tears immediately after the team comes off the floor. Telling one team of 5 to 8 year-olds that they ruined the coach's birthday with the bad performance.

gossiping is gossiping, but talking about your own clients is just stupid. You walk in and they don't even greet you. The girl who works the counter is always on her cell phone and she can't multitask. They have a baby in a swing behind the counter being handled by little girls and strangers. I think Jason is a good coach, but he and his wife are talking to each other, on the cell phone, etc. during class time. It looks bad to the paying customer's whose kids they are suppose to be teaching.

Telling one team of 5 to 8 year-olds that they ruined the coach's birthday with the bad performance. And telling kids "you suck" is extremely inappropriate. CU thinks that is proper motivation. Or how about when the squad doesn't do well the first day of a two day competition so the coaches decide not to even be at the floor supporting them the second day. Yeah, Curtis is easier and more supportive of the kids. How about practices being scheduled for the combo ACU team and Curtis calling his kids and telling them not to show up?

I recently heard, in the last 3 weeks, that Curtis may be coming to work over at ACC. True? Who knows? But you know what - neither of them is professional. Since when can you run a business like either of them do and still get customers? When your the only 2 places in town. I heard there is a better place over at Paragould. Anyone know the name?

My daughter has been on a squad at ACC for 3 years. I have enjoyed the experience. She understands the competitive spirit that is beneficial for becoming a productive person. Jason is hard from time to time but you tried to get a group of 8 to 12 year old girls to do anything by being a pushover. Iwould recommend them to anyone.

ACC is better organized. What killed them this past season, was that they chose to travel to several really really expensive that several decided they just could not do in this economy. The monthly dues were fairly high, but the fees for the competitions, hotels, meals, gas was close to $2000 by itself. And, several competitions required the kids to miss school for travel time. Once kids are in high school and their grades are the most important thing, it's hard to justify pulling them out for 4-6 days. The coaches there are good. Jason went to ACC becuase one of Curtis' prior squads told ACC they would join ACC if they hired Jason. He must not be too bad. And those kids were younger kids and parents tend to be more protective. Curtis is a really good coach. He just tend to be more negative and less positive so they never hear if they did good, just if they did bad. His worst trait was not using money paid for certain things like choreography and competition fees as intended. No one knows for sure what happaned to the money other than there was no choreographer (every kids paid $80 for a professional choreographer and got nothing) and no competiion (one of the later ones). That is what caused the mass exodus of his squads. That, and James Whitaker.

See how busy he is this summer with a new baby and the one in the swing that he keeps fighting to have all summerwith him being so small. HAVE A GOOD SUMMER TO BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE! NOTHING LIKE TWO GIRLS AND A ONE YR.OLD AND A NEW BABY IS THERE.

No, James is the one that was accused of being overly friendly with some of the girls. He is no longer there. He broke up a marriage in Wynne, had a child with her, etc etc. He was lucky at least one dad in Wynne didn't really go after him as he was trying to visit their daughter at home when they were not there. The neighbors saw him and called the police since he was banging on the windows, but the girl never knew it. She wasn't even home.
The one married to Gelinda is Donnie. Tough coach, but not touchy feely like James was. Donnie no longer coaches as he found another job paying much much more with employee benefits.
