I grew up there and now I'm ashamed of it. I hope when ever I visit I don't run into any trouble because the message from the majority is we don't care and we won't help. You're wrong. The majority of Jonesboro WILL help. As long as they have reason to believe that the need is legit. Just because most people won't give a street beggar the time of day is not indicative of their true nature when it comes to helping their neighbors.

Hey I'll even give a street beggar a buck once in a while if he convinces me he really needs it.

At ashleysbud. I would not except anyone to go help this man just because I posted it here. I never recall saying or asking anyone to go help this man. I did say if u r someone who prays then pray for him. So where u got that I posted it on here so people would run and go help this man I do not know. But those were not my intentions at all. Hopefully I cleared that up for you tho.

I think it is very indicative of their true nature. Of course you help your friends and neighbors but helping a perfect stranger is what I call a true test of your giving spirit. If you and the majority of the city don't have one that is fine just own it. Why qualify who you are willing to help and waste time trying to justify it? Jonesboro the friendly city, full of good neighbors (strangers and outsiders not included)

You know there are more than 60,000 people in this town alone not even considering the surrounding area. That's the most rediculous thing ever posted.

I usually dont give out money, learned my lesson from a few friends who always 'needed to borrow some $ til friday'. They would blow their check, then come back for more. Im not going to keep helping someone who wont help themselves. My husband and I donate to salvation army, angel tree, nafa, humane society, and st jude. Not regularly, but when we have extra. Ive boxed up food from my cabinets for friends, even spent my last 20 on dog and cat food for someone else, it was day before payday, so I knew my family wouldnt be going with out. Point is, I try to help whenever I can, but I help in other ways besides cash. Well last summer, I ran into deals and heard a girl asking to use the phn, but was declined. I didnt pay much attention, but as we walked out, I thought I recognized her as a girl I had worked with. I said hi, then realized it wasnt her. I got in my car, she got in hers directly n front of mine where a guy was waiting. I stayed there for a few, figuring up my checkbook, when she came up n asked to use my phone. She called someone but didnt get answer. I asked if she was ok, she said they were out of gas trying to get to wynne. Like I said, I never offer ppl $, and its really their fault for going out of town w out gas, but as I pulled off, I just couldnt leave.. I turned back around and gave her a ten. she was very thankful, and offered to return it later, but I told her to just help someone else when she could. I still dont know her situation, dont know if they were really stranded, or just tryna sucker ppl outa a few bucks. But I know if I hadnt helped, even just that little bit, Id still be feeling a little guilty about it now. I can just hope that she remembers that the next time she sees someone needing help. Sorry, didnt realize it was gona be this long. ;~)

I know there are still good people in Jonesboro but if you read this thread it sounds as if they are few and far between. Like I said I am from Jonesboro and have been so sad to hear the cold hearted remarks on this thread. I was raised there and I am willing to help people no questions asked. What happened to the community that raised me? I wish my post was ridiculous but there are just too many hateful posts on this thread and others from Jonesboro.

Its no longer the nice fun town you were raised in. To many people take advantage of the system and other people for anyone to be concerned about someone else's problems. He may be a nice man that really does need help but he is right down the street from the Salvation Army and the Goodwill. He could be a good person and actually take your money and buy food with it, but do you think he will? 99% of homeles people will just go and blow it. People these days are hard up for cash anyway and have little to spend. I imagine he gets alot of money everyday, their are thousands of people that go through that light each and every day. Instead of just handing your money over, just offer to buy him something to eat from taco bell or something, they are cheap and the food will be good to him. If he says no that he'd prefer the money then your bullsh*t alarm should buzz and you should just walk away.

Redwolf1 wrote: For all of you clowns who are trying to live in some fantasy world where the man on the street could be Jesus in disguise? Grow up, this is reality and not some Hollywood movie set. Jer 17:5 (NIV) This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD." IOWs, if the beggar leans on God for his strength then the Lord will provide for him so that he won't be cursed by relying on man to solve his problems. So think about that bible verse before you call someone heartless because they refuse to give the beggar money. It is heartless! If that is how you would want to be treated by everyone else thats fine but I would offer some help instead of coming here to type about it. Maybe you cannot rely on man because man doesn't care about fellow man. Maybe it isn't a hollywood scene but did I say that? You believe the bible tells you not to help people? What religion are you?
