Have previously heard from others about the bad behavior of the Valley View student section toward visiting ballteams and have now witnessed it myself. I am totally shocked that a school with a respectful welcoming ball team, coaching staff and parents would allow some of their students to openly wear surgical masks as though they will catch SOMETHING from the visiting team as they yell back everything the visiting coach says. Just know that you will never be treated that way when you visit our school because our students have character.

The older ones are just sneakier.

Not associated with VV (except I do live in the district), but it kind of sounds funny. Does seem like it would be a little distracting, though.

Coaches, players, and players' parents should show class.......student section should go nuts & be goofy and try to get in the other teams head....that's just the way it goes.....as long as they aren't throwing anything on the court.

Just another crying and whining thread to nit pick some school kids. If it was such a problem then why didn't you go to the school administration and complain instead of coming to the great website of truth- TOPIX and complain? They wore some mask at a ball game? Wow really disrespectful, huh? Guess you were not at the Jonesboro game were Jonesboro kids dressed in overalls and had signs saying i love my tractor. So adult to adult, let the kids play and if you have a serious complaint go to the school and complain. But I know you don't have the class for that, you wish to remain anonymous and hide.

I agree I have heard some very rude stuff coming from vv students toward other schools. If I had a child that acted that way they would be grounded not encouraged. We are a Comunity we should be better then that to each other. There should be positive team spirit. I was appalled the other day when I was shown a post on a valley view students Facebook that slandered and was derogatory toward the Westside basketball seniors. This guy probably thought his remarks were cute but actually if I was his parent I would be ashamed and embarrassed. The boy took each senior and made rude comments about them. Remarks about their looks, haircuts, playing time and girlfriends. The most shocking comment stateing one of their girlfriends had AIDS. Then the post was sent to one of the westside seniors Facebook. If I was that girls parents I would be looking for the kid that slandered my daughter Parents it time to step up and teach your kids some character!!

I think school spirit is great, yelling, dressing up, even repeating what is said, air ball, and so on, BUT I do draw the line when signs are held up about siblings, or injurys. There are ways to get in the head of opponenets without calling names or being straight up rude. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean its right.

This is for "White Dove", how do you know that was a VV student who said those things? Just because someone on topix says they are from VV, it doesn't mean they are. I'm just saying that it could very well have been a westside student since they seemed to know so much about the players.

OK, I'm a parent of Valley View. It's true you should be someone respectful to visiting teams and I wasn't at the game your referring. One thing I can tell you is part of the advantage of being a home team is you have the opportunity to rattle the other team in good fun. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Personally it sounded like a creative funny idea but again, I wasn't there so if they were being malicious that would not be good.

VV kids wore surgical gloves and masks! They held up derogatory and racial signs for the opposing team. They screamed ugly remarks at the players and harassed them and the fans! They were extremely RUDE and the VV administration and coaches condoned it. The parents in the stands tried to act like they didn't understand what the kids were doing and laughing. It's fine to cheer and yell for your team but, the line was crossed. VV should be ashamed of their behavior but sadly, they aren't and all they do is try to rationalize their way out. Just because Westside is rude doesn't give you the right to pick on another school. You should treat people the way you want to be treated. Whatever happened to dignity? For a school that does nothing but promote their superiority....they sure lack class. Oh yea, money doesn't buy class!

To act as if they were worried about catching something from a school that has been unfairly fighting an old rumor about VD since the 80s? That's not good fun. It's blatant bullying. The fact that you would defend it is a big part of the problem.

Love the fact that students get together to cheer and support their team, but kids will take it to another level if no one cares. It was not amusing or funny.

Take it up with the administration if it's bothering you so bad instead of complaining about it on Topix. Your mouthing on here will get you no where.
