Does anyone know of why 'The Gun Shop' is closed down.
I stopped in there this past sunday, the posted hours said they were open, the door was unlocked and I entered. As soon as I walked in, two extremely rude and abrupt men questioned me on why I was there. DUH???????'I don't know. To buy cowboy boots?????(Stupid question right?)
I was told I should leave, which I did, and then called the Plainfield police to find out if the two jokers who spoke to me were robbing the store.
The police told me that heard rumors that the place was closing.
Is there anyone out there who can provide me with an intelligent reason on why this business is appearently closed, and who the two jerks with bad attitudes were?
I never saw either of those two men before, but I'll tell anyone, that they looked like very bad business.

If the same people are there that drove me out of that store, then I will not be doing any shopping there again!
Actually the police did tell me they had a very difficult previous owner and weren't surprised that he couldn't keep customers or the business going..

I stopped in one time for some .45acp and the guys seemed real nice. I think the ya-hoo who the 'Ex Customer' met couldn't have been a new owner if he was that rude. It was probably some high school kids hired to clean up the place.

I heard the Manager stole the place blind and they had no choice but to close. The plainfield police told me the same thing. I always enjoyed the place, they had very helpful employees like Gene @ Tim. I am sad to see them go now I have to go to Mega Sports. Ex Customer I guess if you caught the owners there maybe they were in a bad mood I know I would be if I had my stuff stolen.

I don't know who it was in the store. the door was open, no sign was posted that it was closed, and it was during regular business hours. The 'people' I ran into were total a-holes and I stand by that. They did ask what I had under my arm, and I ignored their question. I dealt with Noel there and I never had a problem. I actually called the police myself and thought the place might actually be in the process of being robbed,- thats how ignorant and rude the 'owners' were to me. I guess with owners like that, the place should be out of business. They should open a bakery and sell creme puff to their butties. I'm always pissed off at shitty behavior!

You are one hell of a big cynic. Did somebody take you really bad once, maybe more than once? Good business results in good customers. Trust between buyer and seller must be established. Greedy business results in no customers. I had no problem with the people I met there. The business owners probably weren't there. So, it looks like if the place was closed down, my opinion would be that it was mis-managed. It's easy to compete with Mega Sports, they are the real prima-donnas of firearms.

WOW! I know this thread is a year old, but I am surprised at this story. Just recently I drove past there, saw it was closed, and wondered "what happened?"
Stephen, sorry for you loss. I was VERY close to being in the same boat as you, and did not even realize it until today. So ... by August 11th, 2008 the place was closed?! I took a gun in there to be sold on consignment in late June 2008. 10 days later at the start of July, having heard nothing, I went in there -- my gun was gone. But nobody could give me any details, which annoyed me. I talked with the management several times -- when did it sell, how much, and most importantly -- WHERE IS MY CHECK? After 3 weeks of this, I finally threatened to call the ATF, and quoted ATF regs to them specifically about the paperwork they are required to keep for every sale. It is completely unacceptable that a shop does not have this information readily at hand. Don't give me any BS about "well, it takes time to do all the paperwork, we've been backlogged, etc., etc." If you sold the gun, you are required to fill out form 4473 AT THE TIME OF THE SALE. I had a very bad feeling about this place.
Finally, after numerous conversations and threats of ATF investigation and a letter from my attorney, I got a check from them -- the 1st week of August, 2008. I had NO IDEA until just now how close I came to not getting anything from these jerks.
You guys are right about Mega Sports, too -- I just got a very uneasy vibe when I went into that place. I'm sorry, but if you run a business, maybe you should act like you actually WANT people to do business with you? Instead of being smug, indifferent, and rude? I moved here from Ohio in 2008, and I cannot BELIEVE what a retarded, backwards-ass state of affairs the gun shops and attitudes towards gun ownership are in here. Compared to Ohio, being a gun owner in northern IL is like moving to a 3rd world country.(I am crossing my fingers for you good ole boys down in southern IL, hoping that things are a little more ... sensible ... in your part of the State.)
Oh, btw -- the Plainfield Gun Shop STILL has a website with listings of guns for sale. No info about them closing or having a new location -- same address, same picture of the storefront. Nice.
If anyone has a suggestion for a GOOD gun shop in the area, do tell. Also,@ Glad (or anyone)-- I'd be curious to know "where" you got a transfer done for a reasonable fee. Gander Mtn quoted me $75 OR 10% the price of the gun, whichever is higher, so I walked away. Mega Sports would not give me a straight answer, told me "it depends" and also that any such transfer was strictly approved on a case-by-case basis by the owner, and often he would refuse to do a transfer depending upon the "circumstances." Sheesh. What do you need to "approve?" The gun I am choosing to buy? ME? Forget it buddy. If I have a valid FOID, it's none of your business what I choose to buy, or "who" I am. Either you want to make an easy $25-35 just to sign for a delivery and fill out one simple form, or you don't. My shop in Ohio was still doing this for $20 when I left, and would offer free range time to test out your new gun when you picked it up (provided you bought ammo there.) They earned my business that way, and many other people's as well. After the great experiences there, it was no question that I would always go there for ammo, supplies, or a "new" gun purchase before I even bothered to look online for deals from out-of-state dealers/collectors.
*Sigh* Okay, I'm done with my rant. Stephen, you have my sympathy.
