Yes, I have read the US Constitution many of times.
In fact, I have a copy of it hanging up in my den.

Vidiotic, If you are going to quote the Second Amendment, please quote the entire Amendment:

Second Amendment:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Vidiotic,
Do you have a problem with;
"The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." ?

Again, which well regulated militia are you associated with. The intent of the 2nd Amendment is manipulated by people who insist on trying to fix modern issues with outdated language. A hunter has a right to a hunting rifle, but with any legal gun, you'd be hard pressed stop a modern government from quartering troops in your home. The fluidity of the Constitution is what makes it the amazing document that has withstood rebellion and attack from our enemies. Hiding behind a badly worded phrase is the tool of a frightened person with inadequacy issues. Your turn.

Vid,

The is just one document of many designed by our forefathers to give us our basic foundation. What many people overlook is all the supporting documentation, letters, etc... that give us an idea of what was meant. A "Well Regulated Militia" is one section. The law hasn't really changed, "We the People" are the "Militia". What I am getting at is that current law that was put in place at the beginning states that every able bodied man has a duty to take up arms against an enemy of the state. If you refuse, you can be considered a traitor and sentenced to death.

Now nobady has done this for a long time and with some reason. But the bottom line line is the "Militia" is akin to the "Minute Men of old. The individual states all have "National Guard". These are men and women who are the evolution of the "Minute Men". But the idea that every individual person who has the ability, is to be ready to defend this country and their state. As recent as the Spanish American War, individuals "helped" the "regulars" in battle. In WW2, individuals volunteered their services to both the British as well as the Chinese. THese people were trained by the American Military before shipping out.

People have been duped by politicians and lawyers into believing that there safety and well being isn't their concern. The concern rests with the state. That is simply not true. The police cannot guarentee your safety any more than the military. It is not there job. It is your's. If you fail, it could mean your life, both literally and figuratively.

Again, just to clairify, all able bodied men are considered the militia (funny women aren't). So if you want to cut it that the constitution makes it an individual right or a collective right, you are correct on both counts. This is a provision to protect both the individual as well as the state.

It's funny how you forgot to mention, what the rest of the Second Amendment states.
"The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be
infringed."

I actually form my own opinions that are a bit left of center, differing somewhat from your average poster here who fails to see beyond their own antiquated fears and suppositions. If you truly believe everything you hear from one limited, corporate bought and paid for opinion, you are keeping yourself in a self willed informational vacuum. If you believe what AM talk radio and any "news" outlet that is a mouthpiece for a dying political party tries to tell you, you deserve to live in fear.

Vid,

This is an excerpt from the State Constitution of Illinois, I stand somewhat, corrected.

SECTION 1. MEMBERSHIP
The State militia consists of all able-bodied persons residing in the State except
those exempted by law.
The “militia” described here includes both the state’s organized militia who have
received military training, and its unorganized militia—composed of all other able-bodied
persons who are not exempt.3 The corresponding provision in the 1870 Constitution was narrower,
including in the unorganized militia only able-bodied men aged 18 to 45.4

The point is Plainfield is that bad and the people in charge have been sticking their heads in the sand for almost two decades. The police are lousy. They are geared toward traffic and "ordinance violations". The purpose? Make the village look good and keep Crime reporting down, because those violations don't get reported to the FBI for Crime Reporting. A battery between gang members is reported as an "ordinance violation". Sure the $$$$$$$$$ goes to the Village, but then the crime statistics are skewed because they are never really reported. Ask a P-ville cop, "on misdemeanor crimes do you arrest or write an ordinance ticket". They're not the same.
Those cops have little, if any effect. They don't know how to handle a real crime. It's not their fault though. The village people tell them what to do.

im sorry but i have to point out that the fact that they are now going around in handing out buliding code violations and imposing $750 fines to business if "there is a violation". Look at the recent closing of the resturant on Rt.59.. because he had banners and threatened with a $750 per day fine because he had banner flags on his sign.. to attract people to his establishment during the construction. ANd the village political bosses.. didnt respond to his calls until the hearld news called them to ask why this happens.. Yep first class keystone cops handing out buliding code violations.

Just another double dipping government "worker".
Using the term "worker" very loosely.

From the Village of Plainfield:

"Due to the Village's current financial situation, the Village laid off sixteen (16) employees and notice was given to three (3) police officers on Thursday, October 29th. A statement regarding the layoffs was provided at the 11/2/09 Board Meeting and is posted on the Village web site."

So let's hire a RETIRED State Police MAJOR..with a great STATE pension...and lay off MORE from the Village.
But he will work for $1 for each month during November and December..wow..like he needs the job!!
That's our great local government at work!!
Hire those who DO NOT need the work and lay off the rest…makes perfect sense to me!!
Again, remember WE are the one’s who voted in these CLOWNS...well, a portion of 18% of “WE”...because nobody gives a damn about the elected officials until it is too late.
And I bet, some do not remember who or what offices were up election.
What a shame.
BTW...I know Village President Collins was on the Plainfield Police Board before he became Lord Mayor of P-Ville.
Of course, like Plainfield Township, you cannot get any information on the "Special" boards from their websites.
Wonder who replaced him?
In the Herald News there was a mention Collins was planning on replacing Bennett, so let’s see…Mike Collins RETIRED State Police and the new Police Chief is also a RETIRED State Trooper…Hmm??

Cronyism is alive and well in Plainfield!!

This is just one more personnel issue in a long list. I know one of those laid off at the Village. It is sad. I think the Mayor should think about what he said about employees not willing to take pay cuts or furloughs to save other employees jobs. That summarizes the impact of spending money like there is no issue with the economy, how personnel has been treated, pitting one department against another, human resources working to deceive, using staff as scape goats, cronyism, and so on where the employees don’t care what happens to each other or really Plainfield. It won’t change since there are those Board members who don’t care about Plainfield except for personal gain, make themselves feel important or as a stepping stone and you can see where the Village is heading.

Got to wonder....instead of blaming each other (like Dems & Repub's), isn't it about time Plainfield folks stand up for what is truly right?
Just wondering...what is needed to send a clear message to our "people in office"?
Note: I would say elected, but just about anybody who wants an elected position in Plainfield gets in.

#1. Plainfield South High School has nothing to do with Plainfield. The southern-most Plainfield residents would still be served by Plainfield Central High School.

#2. When Plainfield residents say there is a "gang problem", they are typically short on details on objective indications of ACTUAL "gang" activity. That's actually code for black people in rental properties. NIMBY, apparently.

#3. Police are not social engineers. Maybe your little slice of affordable country livin' right off the interstate has been on borrowed time (in terms of whiteness) ever since...well...it became affordable and... right off the interstate.

Documenting actual gang activity is a very easy process if you have the training and the people to do it.

But, you have to admit there's a problem first.

Then the rest is setting priorities and making it happen.

Chief Doster can do this as he has the experience.

Just how is he double dipping? He EARNED the State Police pension he is getting no matter what he does, including sitting in a boat fishing.

For Plainfield to hire him and take advantage of his experience makes more sense than hiring someone who doesn't have any experience at all. And after Bennett was there for so long, it also makes sense to hire someone from the outside to shake things up.

Some people are never happy...promote someone from wihtin it's favoritism, hire from the outside it's no one inside was qualified. Hire the most qualified and experienced person who retired from another agency it's double dipping.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
