...Politics in Johnstown and Cambria County has been a joke for decades. Either party, it doesnt matter. Most legitimate business prospectives know better than to come near the place...

Unless you're a pro-union candidate there is no way you can elected to any political office in Cambria County. What's self-defeating about that backwards mentality is that new businesses, particularly in manufacturing, avoid doing business completely in this area because they don't to run the risk of being unionized. Until the older folks die off and younger folks like Tim Burns can get into office Johnstown will continue on its' downward spiral to self-destruction.

While this area is democratically strong numbers wise, those guys are no better. The repub gang in this area is every bit as bad and in the end, what have those guys REALLY ever done for the good of anyone but themselves and their cronies?

Lived in the Greater Johnstown area my entire life.Love the area. I believe that nationally we are seeing a REAL grassroots movement to finally begin to address the pending financial deficit disaster. The Nov. elections will succeed to slow the current Federal trend. However,I really would be shocked if that activity transfered to the local election of Burns. We are unfortunately forever entrenched in a government jobs "Washington will make it better" mindset and mentality.Drive through Hazelton,Pa....Welcome to Johnstown ,Pa. in 2020. It was also interesting reading the Shuster comments.Economically and in most other ways look at the Atloona landscape vs. Johnstown. The difference is between night and day. Oh well, at least the Community Foundation has 38 million that it can be proud of.

It's kind of sad that disloyal Johnstowners will again vote for an outsider from Westmoreland County instead of for the native son Burns who is from Hornerstown.

When the steel mills and Johnstown were both booming one could argue that the steel industry provided some of the best private sector jobs in America. Today Johnstown is basically a trough made up of public sector jobs which have done zero to fix the region's sad economic situation. If you people still believe that wasteful earmarks will ever fix Johnstown's woes then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, real cheap.

People don't vote for him because he's not a pro-union Democrat. Period. See, there's a mental illness in the region known as "the Johnstown mentality" where your brain tricks you into believing that it's 1960 and the local steel mills are all still booming. The only way to cure this disorder is to move out of Johnstown so you can get your thought process straightened out by being around normal people.

Must agree with both posts above. It's the same way here in the McKeesport area. The town has lost nearly 30,000 residents since the 1980's, no jobs to be found & the downtown business district is dead. Downtown Johnstown looke great compared to McKeesport. People here have that same mentality & continue to pull the same one party lever every election with the same results. The politicians do nothing positive on their own, but wait for more Gub'mint handouts to come in. Then they run out for some photo shoots & take the credit. Now the mayor that has done nothing is running for State Senate. Onorato from Pitts. is no different than Rendell, tax-crazy - Vote No on Onorato too.
