I want to thank the entire House of Representatives for their understanding of the importance of their decision not to take away benefits from our state's veterans. I believe that the House of Representatives has sent as strong message to both the Senate as well as the Governor that veterans' benefits including the Scotland School for Veterans' Children should not become extinict. The House of Representatives voted 199 to 0 for this amendment. I believe that this shows that the majority across our state supports maintaining funding for veterans' benefits incluing Scotland School. Although each individual is free to voice their opinion here, I would like to remind all of us that every Pennsylvania State Representative present on Oct. 5, 2009 agreed to pass this amendment. The message sent from the House of Representatives is definitive. The men & women who serve our nation & put their lives at risk deserve our gratitude. I will personally take this time to take every service person, particularly those from Pennsylvania, for their service.

OH MY GOD LET IT GO ALREADY, LET THEM STAY IN PHILLY QUIT CATERING TO A FEW WHO ARE NOT VET CHILDREN AND CONCENTRATE ON OTHER THINGS. AMAZINGLY MILTON HERSHEY DID NOT ACCEPT ONE OF THESE STUDENTS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA SO WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR THE LIARS AND CHEATS OF A GREAT SYSTEM.

Why not lower the license fees and not fund the school. The Scotland School for Veterans Children did not help veterans children at all, most of the students were not children of veterans. By every other measure the school was a disaster. Trying to bring it back is a shameful example of our legislators arrogance and lack of respect for their constituents.

Aren't they sneaky little devils, tucking SSVC into the gambling bill and then taking money away from the veterans' homes? Interstingly, SSVC is NOT on the DMVA web site. Politicans.....don't forget to vote and get these deadbeats out of office... Almost 100 days, what a disgrace. So we take money that keep daycares open so people can work, take money away from the arts, from welfare, from libraries, from special education and the list goes on. These programs help more that 300 kids. Yet, we piggy back on raising the flag and shout injustice. Hang your head in shame! Let's hope the senate and the governor has cooler heads.

Now's the time for Rob Kauffman to send a LTE to the P.O. stating, not waffling, if he is for or against the amendment. Rep. Rock should do the same. Unemployment will reach 10%. The recession will last a long time. The $10-to-15 millions that would go annually to SSVC is needed by taxpayers for more important things. The public school system exists for anyone who was a SSVC student. Barbin has very poor judgement and ought to be voted out. Kauffman and Rock should be held accountable too.

Are you serious! Perhaps a better idea might be to place that money into guaranteed college scholarships for the children whose parents won't return from our presently ongoing wars.
I'm quite sure that there are any number of developers that would bid a great price for the property the school sits on without taxpayers having to invest a cent for upgrades. The proceeds from the initial sale would be a great way to kick off the scholarship fund.

SSVC is a GREAT institution NO MATTER what standards you use:
AYP - MADE IT
Graudation Rate - 100%
Students that go on to College - 90% or more

It's wonderful that our VETERANS' have such a GREAT Benefit in the State of PA!!! I URGE ALL legislatures to support SSVC and the Bill!

U are an idiot!!! Only 3 kids were vet's kids. and it was proven that the school did not do great. Leave these kids were they belong with their parents! if the parents want privet school let them pay for it, I'm tired of my tax dollars going to these rude, spoiled little brats.

This school has nothing to do with veterans. Let's call it what it is, and that isn't a "school for veteran's children". The kids that went there can get the same quality of education in the public school system of their choice for a lot less money than taxpayers have been dumping into SSVC. I hope Rock and Kauffman are smart enough to vote against this. This money could be used for programs that are much more beneficial than SSVC and programs that actually benefit VETERANS.

Rep. Bryan Barbin, Democrat, should not be supported in his amendment effort. It's a "redistribution of wealth" scheme pure and simple. Consider who 70 percent of beneficiaries have been, and would continue to be, if the amendment is passed. Not entirely the chilren of military veterans. Cousins, nieces, nephews, and not the direct offspring of veterans. Like Gov. Rendell said in the beginning. Pennsylvania has no business operating a school like SSVC.

What a surprise, the good people of Chambersburg are alarmingly uninformed and ignorant to the real issues of the Scotland School situation. Not every student is from the City of Philadelphia, infact there are students from Franklin and Fulton counties. There are also students whose parents are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq and are from numerous counties and small towns across our Commonwealth.
But I don't want the facts to cloud your narrow judgements.

If it is really for orphans whos parents were killed in war, the reason it was founded after the civil war, then absolutely fund this school. But that it costs us, the tax payer, more to send a kid here than to Mercersburg Academy? That's ridiculous and there must be a lot of waste and corruption.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Libra

Don't put yourself through anything that isn't absolutely necessary, Libra. After all, why cook when others will gladly serve you at their house, or treat you to a wonderful meal at your favourite restaurant? Even when you assert yourself, there seems to be a wonderfully passive quality to your manner. Now that the universe has finally decided to give you some of what you want, make sure your wish list is short and don't be greedy.
