this is not what they are making it out to be as usual, they are not bad kids they were bored and due to johnstowns lack of helping the youth stay out of trouble they sat around and thought about what they could do criminal minded. so there needs to be more input about how to help the youth not make them look like hardened criminals i know these boys and they are far from bad.

BORED!?! C'mon!!!! How about helping older people in the neighborhood with cutting lawns or cleaning? How about doing some volunteer work? How about mentoring younger children? How about getting a paper route.....STOP making excuses. I grew up in a rural town where the closest grocery store was 20 miles away. I always found creative things to do - NOT destructive. DO NOT enable these young people. You are helping them by making excuses. GOOD children would NOT do vandalims. |

Bored? I laughed from seeing your comment, so dumb. You don't think these boys should be held responsible? 17 years old carrying a .45 around? Sounds like these boys are future murderers. Armed robbery is only committed by the most low life people in our society. I hope these boys get locked up for a long time, they do not deserve to life around others. |

These boys are so far from bad. That dumb article made it seem worse then they really are!!! I know them both better then most people. Because one of the boys is my boyfriend and the other is one of my very good friends. Ive dated him for 2 years and i knew the other for a long time, and im always around him because im best friends with his younger sister. Yea that was one stupid mistake they did,ill admit that wasnt tha brightest idea. But for how long i knew both of them nothing like this has ever happened. You guys can sit there and say all the mean stuff you want but you dont know them like i do. One of the boys it was his first offence, his first time ever of getting introuble, and my boyfriend has never did anything ever like this before. I agree with Theresa 100% johsntown is going down the drain, more and more of my kids are getting into trouble everyday because of the things they lack around here. They need to help the youth more instead of being lazy and just sittin around like they do!!!

You do NOT do these young people any favors by dening(sp) what they have done. They need serious help. YOU are NOT helping by defending them. |

So it's the town's fault your boyfriend illegal obtained a gun... forced a robbery.. and got caught? You are most likely a criminal just like him. I hope he gets ass raped in jail. |

You kno what it is this areas fault because they are lazy and dont do anything! and its their fault they arent even trying to help the youth around here,it just gets worse and worse(and i should know because i am a teen myself and i know many of the kids around here). and you know what your real tough bein a online computer warrior!! and no im not a criminal and my boyfriends not a criminal either or my friend it was just a dumb mistake you guys are all just dumb ppl and stupid you know that people make mistakes and from knowing them and the lady they robbed shes a crack head and she probally lied because she had all the drugs they got at her house. And the article on here is not correct they got all the drugs and everything else they had on them from that house! So dont go saying all that stuff unless you know the real story!

Answer me this then; what "THINGS" do 'they lack around here'? And if it is THAT bad, why don't you move? Stop blaming everyone else. Get out and start participating in your community. Get involved in your neighborhood. Be a mentor to these troubled kids. Why don't you start to make a difference instead of wasting time on here complaining? |

Damn...17...old enough to join the marines and go to Iraq. Not boring there at all. Already know how to use a gun. Send these punks to prison and improve the city. Kara, find a boyfriend with a future that does not include making license plates.

Well anyways they are both out now! they barley did any time, and they can get the jail introuble because they didnt have an offical court date hearing to sentence them into that jail because they were both minors. but im glad they are out now..=]

The problem with that statement of "due to johnstowns lack of helping the youth stay out of trouble." Why is it the cities fault? Those kids who are so good sat and thought about how to break the law, they wanted a thrill but who would have thought that they would get caught. That is why you are upset cause they got caught. Guess what you do the crime you will do the time. I am glad caught now maybe they will at least have the time to straighten their lives up before they screw themselves permanently. |

I know this topic is old but when I found this I had to add my two cents. How is this the area's fault. What doesn't Johnstown provide that other cities have, including major cities. I have lived elsewhere and seen what is out there. It is no different anywhere else. In my opinioin Johnstown actually tries too much to be like bigger cities. It's not the area's fault, it's your boyfriend's parent(s) fault. Plus, the younger people of today want everything handed to them. When I was 17 yrs old if I did something like this the punishment from my father would have been far worse than any juvenile home could have been. But nowadays kids are told in school your parents can't touch you. Which is incorrect might I mention.(Just don't cause injury.) When some decent parents try to correct their incorrageable teenagers, what does the teenager do? They run away. What a cop out. And by the way I do know the real story. |

What ever happened to kids helping out their neighbors or doing household chors. How about making a writing club or science fiction club. Why is it that todays kids - not all - have to have someone tell them what to do. Don't kids think for themselves today. I mean that in a positive creative way.
There is no tax money to fund basic services and people want the city to do 'something' for the youth?! That is beyond silly to think that the city can do any better with helping children than it can running day to day government. GET REAL! I lived in the area 41 years - I lived in a town that was 20 miles from the nearest grocery store - kids in my hometown in Indiana County never got in trouble. And parents - stop shooting up and pay attention to your children. You made them - now take care of them. Its not up to the state or PA taxpayers to raise your kids. Thats YOUR job. Its up to parents to make sure their kids have something to do to keep them out of trouble. If the state starts to raise our children we will indeed become 1984 |

Well, welcome to Johnstown. I live here and I am raising two children here. The majority of the parents around here talk just like that girl. They are either too strung out or just do not care what thier children do.All too often I see this, then report it. CYS here is a joke. They give parents a week notice before coming so they can clean up. This place sucks. If I could sell my house and not go in the hole from it, I would be gone. Parents around here don't care. I see this daily and there is nothing the police can do about it...it is out of thier hands. Welcome to the slum of PA....JOHNSTOWN!!!! That teenage girl was right though, there is nothing for teens and children to do, because everytime they get something, they destroy it or rob it. It is there fault the town is going downhill...they fall in the footsteps of their parents, junky losers! I hate this town, and the people in it. The majority...are trash.

I'm sorry I can't agree with this nonsense that boredom and lack of community programs leads to criminal behavior. If this were the case, why isn't every other juvenile in Johnstown committing robberies? Opportunity and greed for a quick buck is what leads to these sort of events. If these kids would have gotten a job, maybe they would learn to make money from a paycheck and not a gun. To the girlfriend and little sister, if you know them so well, inform them that in the real world, strange as it sounds, if you want money they expect you to put in 8 hours. Next time they are bored, try doing something "exciting" like filling out a job application.

I understand what you are saying about Johnstown not having anything for the youth to stay out of trouble, while building morals. I'm a full time student majoring in Business Management, and I'm looking to open something for the youth of Johnstown. Any valid suggestions would be appreciated. I rarely check these forums so please reply to babyface082005@yahoo.com in reference to business ideas.
