the only TRUE way to let Mabe know what you think is to get him out of school board COMPLETELY!!!!! sure, money talks & maybe if you find out about how he has made a fortune by being a "coach" you'll realize why Danny Good is where he's at--strange that the people on the board are only concerned with athletics, not education. GET MABE & BRINKLEY OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Heard Mabe is going to different churches (in his district only of course) to get support by showing his Christian values. Hope he's changed but I doubt it. Look for him coming soon to a church near you if you live in the 3rd district. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing.

Mabe is using his wifes Christian gift store as well. Mabe has also exploited Moms in Touch Prayer group in past. Mabes actions as a board member and his land swaps and his development endeavors prove otherwise.

Mabe must be stupid if he thinks people are too stupid to see what he is up to. Visiting Churches and Ruritans during election time insults our intelligence but we see your true colors Mabe. Mabe barely steps foot in schools but last summer he could be seen at various schools on volunteer days-everyone saw right through that just like they see through your lying crap about other issues. MABE IS NO FRIEND OF TEACHERS OR STUDENTS.

Mabe is scum. Period.

He loves to show off his "Christianity" while he dips into the back pockets of the people of this county. He is trying to stack the County Commission and School Board by putting up his cronies for office. Dan Eldridge is the biggest one, running for mayor - but he dances to Mabe's tune. Look at all of the Dan Eldridge signs out there, all on private property owned by Mabe, Larkey, or other lackeys. Mark Larkey & Danny Good are both Mabe stooges.

GET THEM OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT! I don't care what kind of ball coach or supposed "Christian" they are - they are not in it for the people! They are only putting themselves up for office to enrich themselves!

I have known Clarence Mabe for a number of years, and I can honestly say that I've never met the man you describe. The man I know spends more (of his own, personal) money each year to get elected than he will ever receive from the position. I know a kind man, whose only drive to be on the school board is to make things better for the students.

If you want to call him a liar, that's fine, but before you do you need to at least present some evidence as to what he's lied about. All I see here is blind, foolish ranting, most likely from political opposition. I live in Washington County, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have on the school board helping my children.

"Sick of it all" you're just spouting nonsense. Mr. Mabe doesn't claim to have made a fortune from being a coach. He has made a fortune from being an innovator. Look at the business that he has built over the past 25+ years. It started out in his basement, he was a teacher, and now it covers 10 states (according to their website).

Give evidence that can be substantiated. No one wants to read half-truths or blatant lies.

Republican:
Way to describe the political process. Every politician seeks the support of various social groups in a bid for any election.

The man was a teacher for how many years? How often do you follow him around? Exactly. How do you know he never sets foot in schools, and why, exactly, does that matter?

"MABE IS NO FRIEND OF TEACHERS OR STUDENTS." Now this is just ridiculous. More unsubstantiated comments. I know many students who would disagree with you. He has given many of them temporary jobs at his business to help them, and I know of one young man to whom he gave a full-time job, helped him buy a car, and get credit.

Everyone: I've just spoken with Clarence, and he would like to invite you to contact him and voice your concerns, as opposed to blasting him on a public forum without giving him a chance to address the issues. His address and phone number are readily available, I'd suggest making use of it.

There are two real ways to alter the political process: change the man in the position, or the position in the man.

Astonished, the evidence is out there for all to see - even you if you care to look at it.

I won't accept Mabe's explanation of what he has done to this county because the results are plain to see. Our schools continue to scrape by and teachers are given very little to work with. Yet somehow he pushes for two athletic director positions, which were highly unneeded, and continuously throws money at athletic facilities - all while the classroom crumbles.

That's not to say anything about the highly questionable behavior of people he associates himself with, namely Mark Larkey, Scott Buckingham, Danny Good, Dan Eldridge, just to name a few. Or the land swaps and developer deals that came as a result of action by the county commission.

You ever wonder why someone would spend so much of their own money to get elected when they see nothing back out of it? Don't give me "they do it to help people!" line, because what most politicians have done is use their positions to push an agenda and promote their own interests. Wonder why so many of them end up with high profile jobs after their term?

MadVoter,
A quick look around the state tells us that funding issues aren't just limited to Washington Co. School systems everywhere were suffering before the recession, so it's no surprise to me that the county may be coming up short. To blame all of this on one man is more than a little ridiculous. I think you give him far too much credit, though I'm sure he'll be flattered that you think he's so powerful.

If he is pushing for two athletic director positions, and you feel that they aren't needed, why don't you discuss it with him? Posting this on the internet is a coward's way out. Go talk to him, voice your opinion as a concerned citizen should. Don't find a place to set up your soap box and complain about things you haven't tried to address properly.

I'm sorry...land swaps? Developer deals? I fail to see how this has any bearing on his competency as an elected official. If I own a piece of land, I'll certainly do whatever I please with it within the confines of the law. No one has gone to jail yet, so I'm assuming you're just looking for something to gripe about here.

This is just hilarious. Have you ever met the man? He built a business from nothing. He doesn't need a high profile job afterward. He worked very hard as a teacher for many years, so it's only natural that he'd want to help where he knows the most. Honestly, now...do your homework.

Let's talk about the "land deal" with CrossRoads for a minute. I just spoke with people close to the matter, including Clarence, and have the full view.

From what I understand, the property was for sale and the church wished to purchase it at list price. No problems there, right? Well, how about this for shady...after all was said and done, Clarence & Co paid the church all of the profit from the purchase, and then some. Wow. You're right. That's the most horrible thing I've ever heard.

This little smear campaign is running on fumes and misinformation.

It's clear you are a Mabe apologist, as you pick and choose which issues you want to attempt to "set straight".

I know the man started his business from nothing and I have no problem with that. It's when he starts stacking the local government with buddies that do some really shady and downright unethical things is where I part company with him. You say that my pointing out that he seems to be using the local government to get sweetheart deals for his buddies (see Larkey, Buckingham, Eldridge) is "hilarious" because he doesn't need a high profile job - no, but he certainly can use his position to enrich himself and his buddies further. That has happened, especially in the case of Larkey, who has run around the law so many times in getting easements and land deals approved that it's sickening. Look at the Colony Street matter and that entire development that he owns. I didn't see Clarence sticking up for the "common citizen" there, just the super-rich who just had to have another access point to their neighborhood, at the expense of disrupting an entire neighborhood. Even Rep. Dale Ford tried to do something about it, but Jaynes, Larkey, and others made sure that they couldn't.

If Clarence is even half the person who you claim him to be, then he needs to reevaluate who he surrounds himself with and supports. Just because the shady land deals are technically "legal", it doesn't mean that they are right. Ask any of the number of people who have been affected by them - again all public record.

And finally, who says I haven't approached him on the subject? In fact, I have and I have not been satisfied with the answers.
