I had an interview, and I got the job. The only thing that stopped me from actually working there is the low wages, they pay $7.25 hour. Which is the least amount any company is allowed to pay...with it being the min. wage and all. But, I have experience in call centers, and I know that it's definetly not enough. I remember what it was like working at Mcdonalds when I was a teenager, and honestly it'd be better to make that little working at a resturant than working at a call center.

It sucks to work there. The place is nasty and the turn over rate is really high. That is why they are always hiring. If they would make it a little more difficult to get a job there instead of hiring anything that can speak and type a couple words, raise the pay and give benefits then maybe it would be an ok place to work.

It's been a while since I worked there, but it was a hellish place. The HR guy who conducted our orientation really loved telling us all the things that would get us fired. Short of your own death, there seemed to be no acceptable reason to miss work and even then, better bring in an excuse from the coroner.

Backpacks, purses, and cell phones were not allowed in the building, everything had to be carried in a clear container or bag. I had 4 weeks of training, 35 people crammed in a poorly-ventilated room.

ACT has a very high turnover rate. The supervisors I met were rude and disrespectful. Schedules were changed at the last minute, they didn't care if you were taking classes or had to pick up children at school or day care. I took the job out of sheer desperation. I've worked in offices for many years, but my experience and skills went for nothing there. Call floor workers were not allowed in the front part of the building unless escorted. My first day on the floor, I took a wrong turn coming out of the restroom and was heading toward the front. Just as I realized my mistake, a supervisor jumped in front of me and yelled "Just where do you think you're going?" It was an honest mistake, but she wouldn't let me explain. I quit after two weeks on the floor.

Take the job if you must, they'll hire anyone. Maybe things have changed since I was there.

I worked there earlier in the year and it wasnt that great. I guess its a job if your desperate. but yeah, the security lady thinks shes got some cool authority over all the employees, the supervisiors seem to be very egotistical b/c well, their supervisiors at act. yay for them!
the most annoying thing is all the trashy druggies trying to push their coke on you...

It has gotten better in the last month. the system changed and some rules. it is actually easier. The men bosses are cool and do work with your schedule. But the grey haired lady rude as hell. Mean to the employess actually disrespectful to employees she hates other females, hispanics and the young you are all stupid in her book. You can not ask for help from her she chews your ass out. I see her not being there too much longer she is so uptight. Overall it is much better they cleaned the bathrooms thank god hope it is not just for the holidays. On the cell phones lol every one has them texts, honestly they trip over the cells but if some one is going to steal info hell they are going to do it. But truthfully not every one comes to act a crook ready to steal info. Thats the down fall to act no trust for the employees. Do they really think they will catch the crooks a hand full of them just cause they got a cell really. an idiot can remember the number.
act needs to go business bad.

this is the worst place i have ever worked, by far. even though you have weeks of training before you are ever on your own, you are still totally unprepared for using the extremely complicated and non user friendly computers. most of your "training" involves reminding you to be nice at all times and informing you of the 39475398457 things that can get you instantly fired. almost every manager i encountered was a pill head or cokehead, and would jump all over your ass for pretty much anything (when they weren't trying to sell you stuff that is).

speaking of breaks, i will say that they are very generous with smoke breaks (only because all the managers smoke lol), which is cool. but lunch breaks suck because you don't have very long, and you have no choice but to drive somewhere to get lunch. the only close place to eat is a gas station across the street that makes REALLY good food for super cheap, but since it's the only place, good luck actually getting food and having time to eat it during your break, since that's where EVERYONE goes at the same time. i worked in this same building when it was Fairfield a few years ago, and they had a catering service sell hot lunches with a drink for 5 bucks, and subway would bring cold sandwiches and sell them in the lunch room. ACT just doesn't give a shit.

in my training class, there was a woman whose teenage daughter was having major surgery, and they would not give her the day off to go to the hospital to be with her. you cannot take days off *at all* during your training, so hope you don't get sick for a month! i got pinkeye FROM THE ACT BUILDING and they actually did let me stay home for that one. the first woman i spoke to didn't want to let me stay home because she had no idea what pinkeye even was! i was like, REALLY? how do you not know what that is?! if i come in there with this, everyone who is anywhere near me will have their eyes stuck shut when they wake up the next day!

they tell you that they have attendance "bonuses" that bump up your pay, but the thing about them is, you cannot clock in even one minute late AT ANY TIME DURING THE MONTH, or you don't get the bonus. no one in the whole building got the bonus the entire time i worked there. i'm not saying that being late to work is ok, but sometimes it takes a few minutes to park, or your computer isn't working and you have to find a new one, or you are sick at work because you were not allowed to call out and had to deal with that in the bathroom or something. one minute late during an entire month loses you the "attendance bonus".

i take every opportunity to warn people about this place. you are honestly better off trying to find a fast food job. comparable pay, discounted food, WAY less stress, friendlier coworkers and management, and usually they have a flexible schedule so you can do things with your life besides be at work.

and for people who have never been telemarketers before: you will have to deal with everything i said above, in addition to being cussed out all day long and not being able to tell off the people yelling at you over the phone.

you will also deal with tremendously stupid people who don't know how to read their own phone bill, or think they shouldn't have to pay phone taxes like everyone else in the world, or who want you to give them free shit even though you can't. some of them don't pay their phone bill for like 6 months and have no idea why we turned their phone off, and have called to scream cuss words at you lol. the stupidity is staggering.

and you have to SELL THINGS to these people. even the ones who are cussing you out. even the ones who are sobbing because they just lost a loved one and are calling to cancel that person's cellphone line....you have to try to sell that person something. you are being watched and recorded to make sure of it.

terrible, terrible job. terrible, stupid, mean spirited waste of life customers whose asses you have to kiss all day long.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Libra

Look after yourself today, dear Libra, because you don't have as much energy and self-confidence as usual. In fact, your spirits may be trailing around your ankles, making you feel wretched and listless. A pessimistic mood certainly won't help you cheer up, and you may be feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities or other people's problems. The fact is that you've got things out of proportion, but you'll feel better about them soon.
