does this mean we won't be getting another new mall? Doesn't sounds like Turtle Creek is doing so hot with all these stores closing down

It's called a recession, look into it. Most of the chains that are closing aren't just closing in Jonesboro.

Get ready for more closings. CIT group which filed bankruptcy this week was THE major lender for retailers. You will see a lot of small and medium sized chain retailers and restaurants go belly up because they can't get short and medium term loans to stock up for and restock after Christmas. So many customers buy with credit cards that it takes months or years for these sellers to get their money from sales. Without a stable source of business credit, many will not make it. Banks are not lending on orders from the FDIC, so there is nowhere for business to turn for capital. It's the next step in the collapse of private enterprise and Capitalism. So don't worry, it's all part of the plan.

Wow...news travels fast in this town! At least they have a few months notice. Some of the retailers that close give very little notice to their employees.

I hate that but am not too surprised in this economy. The only stores in that mall that I'd be surprised to see close would be Target, Penneys, or Dillards. Any of the others are just fly by night in my book. These are strange times we're living in folks.
Ann Taylor has some cute things though and good sales. I do have to admit that I liked the old mall better for some reason. I don't like all of those punk stores for teens. |

I've heard that Dillards has been on the ropes for about a year. |

I heard the whole town of Jonesboro is shutting down after Christmas. Go out of business.

3 I agree 100% Turtle Creek targets tweens, teens, and college students mostly. The few stores that don't are too expensive. I love the Wolfchase mall in Memphis. It has such a variety and has several shopping centers around the same area. |

2 For me it wasn't so much the different stores, but the LAYOUT of the mall was much better and much more easy to access. I never go to the new mall unless I just have to. I used to go to Indian Mall every weekend nearly. I, of course, hope this mall does well and all of the stores do well, but I much prefer the location, atmosphere and layout of Indian Mall. This new mall is, as someone else said, geared toward a much younger group. There are a lot of younger people in the area, but I don't think the 15-20 age group are the ones with a lot of spending money. Perhaps they should target an age group with a little more pocket money. I am not quite 30 yet, but I still feel out of place in the mall usually. |

It is so sad that Ann Taylor is leaving. Those girls in there are wonderful people. They have nice clothes and are always ready to go above and beyond for their customers. I had heard a couple of months ago that they were gonna close. I was in there shopping and heard the marketing girl for the mall being very rude to one of the girls. I later asked someone and they said that were up for the year to goal.
So Maybe if they could focus on promoting for the mall instead of being rude to stores they wouldnt be leaving. Maybe it's not all the economy? Maybe it is that mall and their management? I mean really do you need those 1980's pics up in the food court? Why do you need overweight rentacops on those scooters. And if your going to market to the younger kids, dont bring in the tractors...Looks like you needed a hint on that one since the mall is obviously doing everything wrong. |

This article is a little dated, but they are closing a total of 117 stores. All retail has been affected by this recession. Our mall has a couple of empty spaces but it is nothing compared to other parts of the country. Some malls are over 90% vacant. The recession has not hit Jonesboro like many other places. You should try leaving town sometime and witnessing just how bad the economy really is in other parts of our country. |

I guess I just don't understand the negativity towards the new mall. People say it offers more to the youth, so that is why I asked what does this mall not offer that Indian Mall did. Compare: Stores in both malls: Dillards-larger and much more to offer in the new mall; not geared toward the youth. JCPenney-larger and more to offer in the new mall; not geared toward the youth. Gap-larger and more to offer in the new mall; geared more towards the youth. New stores: Bed, Bath, & Beyond Best Buy Barnes & Noble Target and many others What Indian Mall had the new mall doesn't: Sears Anything else??? There are several stores that are for the younger generation, but that is just because there are MANY more stores available to shop at. The mall offers MUCH MORE than the Indian Mall did, people just want to have something to complain about. I miss the atmosphere of the Indian Mall just because it is what I grew up with as a kid and I have some good memories there, but when it comes to stores and shopping experience there is no comparison between the two. |
