Nothing at all it is on a contaminated site, even if you were to tear the building down the land is unsuitable for anything until it is all dug up and refilled with clean dirt.

Thats a lot of money to dispose of the bad dirt properly.

And who is going to do that? Nobody!!!!

I heard that the county might buy that property and use it for storage for the road garage located across the street.

But what about the old laudrymat? the one that used to be on Laundrymat road, I know there is also contamination back there too, behind Ernie Pauls house.

There are to many properties around Atlanta that sit on this contamination and it makes the entire town look bad because of it.

I don't think it has a contaminated tag on it. Their permits were pulled for not hauling the soapy water away is all. They weren't allowed to dump in the ground THERE because the water table ws shallow. They didn't want the soapy water in the ground water and they were supposed to haul it elsewhere and "DUMP it on the GROUND" so that it didn't end up in the Thunder Bay River and kill the fish and upset the ecological environment. The soap doesn't really hurt anything else and it will NEVER be a laundromat again...LOL

I knew it wasn't because of the soap but you may be correct about the tanks if there were some. I'm not sure of the address there but here are the contaminated sites

The old laudrymat and conveinance store on the corner out on Reiman road.

It's been closed for a while now.

People park things for sale there, right now I believe there is a green and white camper parked there for sale.

Well the DEQ must not have a recording of this.

I remeber reading an article in the paper about this site, and seeing that the county road commission is thinking about purchasing this site for storage.

I remember that they commented that the site IS contaminated and it would be a good use of the property otherwise it sits empty and ugly as heck!!

DEQ downgrades sites all the time, from what I heard in the past this was NEVER a serious issue other than polluting the river and all thats long past. It wasn't that big of an issue even at the time except DEQ wanted another pound of Atlanta flesh

Well if the site was contaminated, and the DEQ downgraded it, and it is now off the books because it has been so long since it was done, that would mean that the DEQ is not doing thier job.

That site contaminated a river, which contaminates water, which makes people sick, and possibly die.

It's got nothing to do with the DEQ having it out for Atlanta, it's more like the people of Atlanta dont take proper care of thier underground tanks, causing leaks and contaminated land.

So it is the owners that are destroying the town, not the DEQ!!!!

I never said that the guy who dumped was right or that he shouldn't have been busted and fined or that polluting the river was ok but DEQ was making an example out of him, had it have been that serious DEQ would have been digging up all that dirt and replaceing it and the owner would have had to pay dearly for the cleanup and lets not forget the JAILTIME that would have gone with it
