Yes my dogs are my kids. I am proud to say it, and I am proud that I have love in my heart to feel that way.

Not long ago, if an 8 years old had kicked someone else’s dog, he would have had to apologize, and as a punishment, would have had to walk the darn thing after school, and clean its poop for a month. Not being handcuffed.
With all due respect Pollyanne, those days are long gone. Kids these days have no respect for someone elses property, pets or personal space. They have an entitlement complex. Having this boy walk the dog he kicked would not have taught him a lesson, nor would have sending him to his room without dinner or taking away his tv, I-pod or Xbox. I think we can simply look at the actions of his role model (his mother) and know that a simple punishment would have taught him nothing.

Where in the article does it say: "repeatedly"? I just re-read it and did not see that.

Why does it matter if it was once or 10 times? What he did was wrong and he compounded his wrong by running from the police officer. And you think the officer should have just sat him and talked to him about what he did wrong? What happens when next time its not a dog but a child that this boy attacks? Maybe he should be taught a lesson while its still a dog.

This child needs psychiatric help, and undoubtedly it wouldn't hurt the mother either. An 8 year old should know better than to abuse an animal or an authority figure. There is no reason to suspect the officer "overreacted" - and an 8 year old who thinks he has the power to resist an officer (even when his mother does) is headed in the wrong direction.
Please don't make excuses for these serious problems.
You are exactly right this child may already have a record and that is why the officer put him in hand cuffs it is not right to abuse animals why was he not in school there is no excuse for what he done to this officer his mother should be charged with everything just like the boy

Read th MPD release and the affidavit of the officer. Both say that students and staff alerted the officer that the child was "repeatedly" kicking a female boxer.

Glad you side with satan. Perhaps satan will grow up and kill someone some day, and you'll get another chance to show your compassion.

Yes, I have to agree some kids are horrific, and most time the parent are the same. Those ones do deserved harsh lessons. But I still believe most kids are goods and sometimes they just need to be corrected.

She is going by the article which, as usual, does not give much information. The News Channel 5 report and the Tennessean report does not mention repeatly kicking the dog.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jason B Bour!

Yes, I was responding to the "full story: News Channel5.com " above the "comments" on this page. Of course, this is another story if the child was repeatedly kicking the dog. In fact, it is a very disturbing story. Actually, I now fell sorry for the poor officer, and admire his "guts" to confront the neurotic mother. Now I know for sure, there was serious case of abuse in the boy's home. I hope our system will be able to save him. After all, he is only 8 years old.

Children are sometimes brought up to be BAD. You can tell by the appearance of the mom that she doesn't have a lick of sense. Dishelved like a mothertrucker? Sit at home much? Welfare much? Hmm....everyone knows she don't give a damn!!!

Well, I don't know that for sure! I learned in life not to "judge a book by its cover."
And I don't appreciated someone telling that I sided with satan, when taking the side of a little boy, with minimal info provided by the media. This is just a little boy, not satan. Obviously he is being raised by an unfit mother, in conditions that I can't even imagined. Nobody feel sorry for him. It is sad! Maybe being handcuffed and arrested is the most attention he ever got, and I really hope he will be fine at the end.

I don't understand what happened to people raising thier children with respect. I'm GLAD she went to jail and they really need to make an example out of her. Then DHS needs to take the child away and put him in a home where he can be raised right before he ends up dead or another person in jail. Has anyone thought that maybe this officer put him in handcuffs to scare him and possible teach him a lesson thinking that his MOTHER would set a better example and follow his lead so that he wouldn't be skipping school or mistreating animals. There's been to many studies done to show when children can mistreat or kill animals they have a deeper issue. I'm sure this wasn't the first time, but as you read some of these treads people are so quick to say poor child being mistreated by an officer. GO BACK TO DISCIPILINING YOUR CHILDREN!!! If you see your child has an issue that you can't or WON'T DEAL WITH, it's your obilgation to that child and to society to take measures in fixing the problem. TOO many people let thier chilldren run wild then when they get out of control or get too old for you to deal with them they want to say well, the state said I would go to jail if I spank my child. There's a difference in disciplining and beating

Excellent comment, Get Real. I couldn't have said it better myself. Btw, for those bleeding heart assses that are defending this kid and his mother, they need to keep in mind that serial killers i.e. JEFFREY DAHMER started out abusing and killing animals. And look at what he ended up being......a serial killer and dead after being killed in prison.
I am not taking the side of the mother, but your comment about the serial killer is quite apropos. If he had been cut hurting animals at an early age, perhaps he would not have become a serial killer, and the people he killed would not have died.

Although if he is, that may contribute to some of his problems, please don't assume that all children living in single-parent homes are bad. I was a single mother for 4 years and I did a great job with my kids. They were sad and had problems, but I never stopped talking to them and working with them to help them. They have both turned out to be wonderful kids. Many children who come from two-parent homes are also maladjusted. It all boils down to how either or both parents teach their children and, even more importantly, the example they set with their own lives in front of their children.

Stop with the PC "single mom" garbage. It's "unwed mother", "divorced mother", or "widow".

Single mom is not PC. We do not know if she is unwed, divorced, or widowed.

..in your opinion. "Single mom" is a creation of libtards who don't want to be called "unwed mothers." This is because everybody has a right to feel good about themselves regardless of their behavior.

It's the modern American way!

How about "after being married for 12 years, my alcoholic husband decided that his friends, drinking, and partying were better than his 2 beautiful children and a good wife and walked out of our lives?" Since you want to get specific about it, then divorced mother is probably the term you're searching for.
