Find out why this woman did not return this particular library book. Is she attempting to exercise censorship so others cannot read/check out the book? If so, I'd add more charges.

This must be a very small town, with government employees with very little to do. Please send the library particulars and I'll send a check and pay for the book. This is crazy.

I feel sort of bad for the police man/woman who had to go to the lady's door. Barney Fife award nominee?

I think this has more to do with Iowa only having 6 books in the entire state and without one of them, so much for higher learning! I for one am happy to see an Iowan trying to read. Very heart warming!

Be careful, PE. Those Iowans might not take too kindly to such remarks. We don't want to get posts like, "how many Minneesotans does it take to correctly fill out a voting ballot", etc.

So no one else here sees this as an abuse of power? How many public resources did the library expend through the sheriff's office and court system to try to recoup the value of the $13.95 book? I hope the judge has enough sense to toss this out......

Somebody from Florida should not be commenting on voting and ballots. Are case isn't even close to what yours was in 2000, so don't even go there!

The good news is, there must be virtually no crime in Independence, Iowa, which requires actual police attention. I just wonder, if the book had been, say, "The Audacity of Hope", would the library send the police out to retrieve it?

Maybe you could just Google "Independence, Iowa library" and see what you find.

Well the police did go to the home previously to get the book or the money. I could see how this would be ridiculous if she had just forgotten and they arrested her. I think it's stupid that they had to go to all that trouble just to get a book/money back after repeatedly informing her.

Is this the same lady that had a little x-tra curricula activity at the Gophers/iowa FB game at the Dome or is it one of her relatives?:)

If someone in Minnesota had a stupid attack and got caught doing something like this lady - the worst penalty the judge cound sentence them to would be to send them to iowa even for one day! The pig smell would probably do them in!!!!!!

Pretty funny to see money- and property-obsessed, law-and-order wingnuts defending theft.

Soon after, Independence police went on to arrest an elderly man for driving with her left blinker on for two miles.

Funny, Iowa says a lot of the same stuff about Minnesota! By the way not everyone lives on a farm and Minnesota has farms. Iowa may be small but their monsters when it comes to wrestling!!

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Libra

Don't hold anything in, especially an emotional burden. The only way to drown the past is to open the floodgates. If you've got something to say, come right out and say it. The only people who might be offended by your honesty don't really matter in the grand scheme of things anyway, Libra. Great changes flow smoothly through your day. When you take charge, everyone feels at home.
