"A lot of people wish the state would mail out reminders, but the state says the $400,000 a year price tag is just too expensive, especially in a time of tight budgets. Plus, much of that money would be wasted because they say about 50% of their mailings come back because people move and don't notify the Department of Public Safety."

I don't see why they say it would be too expensive. They send out reminders to renew tags on every vehicle registered in Oklahoma once yearly. DL renwals are only every 4 years.

Great idea! Why don't they do the same for tags? I'm sure it would save even more money, and maybe more road projects could get completed. Oh wait...I hate orange barrels.(LOL)

Well I'd say if they can get a $400,000 job done for a few pennies, then the $400,000 way is too expensive. But you're right...they could extend this to tag renewals and shave a whole lot more off the expense.

It would be nice to have the web address or a posted link.

Maybe that costs too much too.

If Oklahoma would be like other states and make it easier to remember when your license expires by putting the expiration date on your birthday, it wouldn't be such a pain in the arse to remember when your license expires.

Well, the mailing would be wasted money on me. I moved two years ago and never updated my address. My physical address changes more often than my e-mail address.

Or you could take responsibility for it yourself and write a note on your calendar. It shouldn't really be the government's responsibility to remind you to follow the law.

I carry a PDA which has pretty much unlimited calendars on it. Obviously not everyone can afford to do so. But before the technological age, I would carry a notebook with the current year calendar in it and any appointments or dates to remember in future years would go on the back page or the notes page.
