Always happy to see ONN do a news story on how you can green your home. I am looking forward to getting a high efficiency toilet and faucet aerators put into my home by a Green Plumber. I didn't know Green Plumbers existed, but I am I am thrilled that this service industry is going green! Keep up the good work!

1.6 gallon toilet means 2 flushes per load.
There will be green everything as long as it generates a buck. |

I have been living in Germany the last 23 years and this is all normal here.
The same toilets and the same "flow through water heaters" The problem with the water is that the heaters use a lot of electricity! Like I said, the toilets are also the same as in the article above, so my question is what is so special about this house? Or did the person just get the ideas from the Germans? |

This doesn't seem all that newsworthy, tankless waterheater (or tankless tank? anyone?) low flow showerhead, toilet. Tankless heaters use quite a bit of electricity, and yeah you save a little bit of water with the other two, but these seem like a drop in the bucket compared to the enviromental savings of heating, cooling, electricity etc. Green, green, green, someone's making a buck.

Funny isn't it how they try to play ancient european devices off as new American technology. I think we did that with the rocket engine to. |

Throw out the low flow washer if you wan't the soap scum off of your skin and thanks to the envirocommies we now have to double flush a 1.6 gal. toilet useing 3.2 gals. to flush Mr. Brown snake down. That was real smart, eliminate the 2 gallon flush for 3.2 . There is nothing new about green. |

I'll debate the first part of your comment. My loads are pretty healthy on a bad day. |

Tankless hot water heaters are very expensive and takes many years of use before you break even for the "green" savings.

Toilets account for approx. 30% of water used indoors. By installing a Dual Flush toilet you can save between 40% and 70% of drinking water being flushed down the toilet, depending how old the toilet is you are going to replace.
If you are serious about saving water, want a toilet that really works and is affordable, I highly recommend installing a Dual Flush toilet. Caroma toilets offer a patented dual flush technology consisting of a 0.8 Gal flush for liquid waste and a 1.6 Gal flush for solids. On an average of 5 uses a day (4 liquid/ 1 solid) a Caroma Dual Flush toilet uses an average of 0.96 gallons per flush. The new Sydney Smart uses only 1.28 and 0.8 gpf, that is an average of 0.89 gallons per flush. This is the lowest water consumption of any toilet available in the US. Caroma, an Australian company set the standard by giving the world its first successful two button dual flush system in the nineteen eighties and has since perfected the technology. Also, with a full 3.5″ trapway, these toilets virtually never clog. All of Caroma’s toilets are on the list of WaterSense labeled HET’s (High Efficiency toilets) http://www.epa.gov/watersense/pp/find_het.htm and also qualify for several toilet rebate programs available in the US. Please visit my blog http://pottygirl.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/wha... to learn more or go to http://www.caromausa.com to learn where you can find Caroma toilets locally. Visit http://www.ecotransitions.com/howto.asp to see how we flush potatoes with 0.8 gallons of water, meant for liquids only. Best regards, Andrea Paulinelli |
